If anything in the entire world existed to cause Yael trouble, not paranoia because she always thought it would be okay next time around, all logic curbed away from the Hunger Games and to actually roaming District 3 as the night engulfed the streets. The shadows ate the ground like the plague, and quite loathesome individuals could roam about. Up by the more profitable factories or roaming where poverty flourished, it was all the same in the dark. That was all she knew, really. She couldn't see in the pitch black that fused with the depths of their fury. Yelling and screaming could be heard even when she reached the higher levels of the factories with the most output, and sometimes she couldn't tell the difference between a civilian or a peacekeeper in the midst of the violence. No, it was better to stay inside.
Except for when she couldn't.
Her heels didn't slam against the ground in a frantic run, instead Yael chose to creep on one side, one hand clutching a wall to keep her bearings straight. It was a good thing it was dark, or else people would certainly laugh at her. Going into all of that detail about how scary it was out there, she'd think it would be enough to keep her inside forever. Nope. She had forgotten a few simple pieces of machinery back home. It was hard to comprehend, but some factories expected her to have those parts. She had to buy them herself, like she was given extra all the time and taking a few wouldn't be considered stealing from the Capitol in the first place right? Oh, logic.
Yael's body twitched as the sound of thumping inched closer with every step. It honestly sounded like a fight, but maybe it wasn't. Maybe she could just sneak by unnoticed... it was the only straight path to her house! The Harlow tugged at her khaki work shirt, eyes starting to adjust to the night. She could see a person, or maybe people? In the few seconds that passed a cold sweat managed to work its way down her back. She always had to worry about peacekeepers, even when the thought of doing something wrong made her cringe. Damn.
(Sorry for the shortness I really am. I can make it longer if you'd like, a few events irl have kind of been distracting me. ;
