Artemis Alexander
Mom and Pa never really liked it when I went out into the snow, especially when it was this deep. They thought I couldn't see, but that was a lie! .... not really. When everything's white, it all just blends together. My eyesight is horrible as it is and to make everything be the same color is just awful. But I love snow, I really do. It only comes around one time of the year; kind of like going for months and then finally getting to eat your favorite food. It's just that good.
Red was getting antsy. I could hear his claws clicking against the wooden floor of our one room cabin. He loved the snow. An anxious whimper escaped him. I was curled up on the oh-so small couch we had by the fireplace, sometimes dozing off in the comfort of the radiating heat. Red's cries to be let outside in the snow were becoming more and more frequent. I opened my eyes. Everything was blurry, but I could see Red's sleek brown and black form darting back and forth along the wall that had the front door on it. "Alright, alright, Red, calm down." I muttered, hauling myself up off the couch and carefully picking my way over to the front of the house, being sure to not knock anything over. Nobody in the house was allowed to move any of the furniture around since I went off memory to get around, which was really nice. I put my boots on and grabbed my jacket, picked up Red's rope leash and then opened the door. Red's claws scraped harshly against the wood as he tried to bolt out the door as fast as he possibly could and dive headfirst into the snow. I, on the other hand, was greeted with an icy wall of cold air. I didn't really like the cold, but I guess you just have to put up with it for the snow. I buried my mouth and nose in the scarf around my neck and closed the door behind me.
The snow wasn't too deep; it came up to about half of my shin. Then again, I'm 7'1, what's shallow for me is deep for the next guy. It wasn't hard to trudge through, but there was a layer of ice underneath all the fluffy snow, which was slick. I was moving slow enough as it was so it wasn't too much of a problem with me. Snow was still falling, too; I could see just little blurry fuzzies falling like cotton in the wind.
I could see Red running all around, sticking his face down into the snow and running, running some more, darting here and there, and running in circles. He really was enjoying himself and I just had to laugh. "Come here, Red."
