The table was set. The delicious smell of stew wafts through the house, in our noses, making my mouth water. My family was waiting for us at the table. I grabbed Luke by the hand and gave him a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry, they're nice." I laugh softly.
I hope that helps the nerves that I'm sure he's feeling inside. I know I would be. Being the boyfriend of a girl with two quite muscular older brothers must be a bit nerve-wracking at time. I feel bad for him, but I know they'll like him. He's done nothing but impress me without even trying ever since I met him. He's done more than impress me. He's caused me to fall for him. I lead him out of my bedroom and into the kitchen. My brothers and my mother smiled up at us.
"Luke, I set a plate for you next to Alana. I figured you'd want to sit by her." My mom says softly. That causes me to blush for some unknown reason, so I just drop my head slightly and smile at my mom. I've never really payed much attention, but I am so much like my mother. The way I talk, walk, laugh, smile, and even look. I don't know how I've never noticed; she is my mother, after all. Luke and I sit at the table as my mother places two bowls of steaming hot stew in front of us, along with the rough, brown, tessera grain rolls. I take small bites of my stew, making sure to blow on each bite to cool it off.
"So, Luke, got any family?" Asks my brother, Danny, teasingly. I press my eyes shut and take a deep breath. Dear God, I hope they go easy on Luke. For his sake and mine. I"m not worried about Noah and my mother. But I know Danny will try to make him feel uncomfortable in any way. I place my hand over Luke's and gently squeeze it, hopefully giving him confidence. I meet Luke's gaze for a moment, which was just enough time for me to give him a soft smile and another sqeeze of his hand.
