Plants had never really had a place in Mahlah's heart. Not like others who lived to care for the boring things. The girl really only cared for the edible ones, and sure the colorful flowers were pretty to look at but most of the time they just got in the way. Like this stupid seaweed. Seaweed is so useless, all it does is trip your feet up and stick to your body- tangling with hair and trapping you in it's salty embrace.
There they were, Mahlah and her remaining brothers caught in the slimy arms of seaweed- the world's most useless plant. Ever. When the trio had collected their items from the room they had raced towards the exit to escape further bloodshed- after all two children had died during the Feast- however, the small girl's feet with snagged by the icky green weeds and soon captured Jae and Elon along with her. It wasn't long before all the other tributes left and the trio was alone hanging depressingly in the web of foliage.
Mahlah wasn't exactly in the most comfortable of positions. Her left arm was suspended over her head, her wrist hopelessly entangled. The poor girl could not even see her feet through the green. The only fortunate thing about the situation was that Mahlah managed to adjust a few long, looping lengths underneath her so she could sit down. In fact she could use the seaweed as a makeshift swing- but couldn't go to far since her feet were still trapped.
Her right arm was free to search through her back and Mahlah did so freely. She devoured the last of the plants Elon had given her and was slowly sipping water, swinging back and forth in the mass of seaweed. The girl was wedged between Jae and Elon, who looked a little worse for wear. Jae's left arm now ended in a nub, which did not look as bad as the gaping hole that used to be his eye (Mahlah was finally starting to get used to it. She thought it made him look tough). He wasn't as affectionate as Elon was, but he was still her brother and she looked up to him. Mahlah was amazed that The District Ten boy's arm was still attached. Her brothers had taken quiet a beating, and yet she felt the best she had all Games. Now with food and water in her, Mahlah felt like she could take on anything. Of course when you feel your best you get trapped in plants.
The girl yanked at the plants wrapped around her wrist but they didn't give even a little. Her fingers grabbed at her switchblade and she started sawing at the thick cord of slimy plants. It didn't accomplish much and she ended up swinging again, sipping at her water jug and thinking about her brothers.
They had both done some tremendous things today. Jae had killed the boy from two and Elon... well, she thought for a second that he might not make it out. Long after Jae and herself had ran from the thick of the fight, he stayed behind. Mahlah tried to convince herself it was just a coincidence but this was the Games. Nothing "just happened" in the Arena.
She switched her swinging course, going left to right, lightly bumping into Jae and Elon. Her eyes swept across the room to fall on the boy from two's form lying on the floor.
"How do they get the bodies out?" she asked thoughtfully, sipping at her water as if she was still an innocent child back in Three asking why the sky was blue.
