she wants to be free;
text speaking thoughts someone else
A day like this was certainly one she couldn't pass up, not on any chance. But then again, she rarely ever passed up the chance to go to the shore. After all, it was quite a sanctuary to her, and she wasn't about to let another scolding from her parents keep her from the sound of the crashing waves, the feel of the cool ocean breeze, the cry of the birds. They should of realized how natural it was. After all, those of District Four were often known for their talent with the sea as well as the love for it, and Vera knew she was no exception.
As each step forward pushed her farther from home and closer to the water, she listened to the different sounds around her, imagining what each and every little thing was. At times she hated having this curse to never have a chance to see the world, not even once, but other times she saw it as a blessing. She could hear things better than most people after all, and not seeing opened up a whole new world for her. Each sound was unique, and it was only from the single sound that a picture could be painted in her mind, her imagination running wild as various options for whatever it's appearance could be ran through her head.
Such was the case now, in fact. She could hear the various footsteps around her and knew the street was crowded, but she didn't care. She tuned out the familiar sound of her fellow District members, instead focusing on the hidden sounds, the less important things, if you will. To Vera, it was the simple things that mattered the most, because to her, the simple things made up the bigger picture. A day of work could turn into a success in the future, or a single caught fish could brighten the day of a boy. The simple things mattered, whether people believed so or not.
Lost in her own, personal thoughts, she continued through the crowd of the masses, waiting for the one sound that would brighten her own day. A crash, then the soft whisper as the sand was pulled from it's place on the shore, being pulled out into the unknown. A smile lit up her face, her eyes gazing sightless of the direction she knew the waters of the sea were located. After being cooped up behind the confining walls of her school, she was more than glad to get out to the beaches, only wanting to feel at home in the one place she actually could.
Her bag slipped from her shoulder, and as she strode across the sand, she slipped her simple flats from her feet, letting them lie in the sand as she sighed softly at the feel of the cool grains of dirt beneath her feet. She reached up and pulled her hair out of the intricate her mother had administered upon her that morning, her chocolate colored hair falling down for a few moments before being caught in the toss of the wind. And as the wind blew through the thin fabric of the blouse, cooling her skin, she laughed, stepping into the cold water without much more of a thought.
She turned her face to the sky, smiling as the sunlight touched her face, her arms spread out wide behind her as another round of wind collided with her. She was happy, at peace. A feeling that could only rise within her whenever she was here though. Slowly she let her arms drop to her sides, her skin rubbing against the rough fabric of her shorts, standing in silence as she let the water lap against her skin, reveling in the feeling as she imagined what the water looked like as it rippled around her. Yes, she was home. The sea was always a home to her. Well, more than the one she had at least.
