~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~[x]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~He was late. He was never late.
Amele Foster paced around the training building, impatiently waiting for her trainer to burst in through the door and apologize for not being on time. Maybe he found an old woman who had fallen on the street, and had selflessly disregarded his own schedule to take her to the hospital. Or maybe the girl that he inevitably didn't volunteer for the Games for was at the hospital giving birth to his son or daughter. There were an infinite amount of positive reasons why Daven wasn't there today, but something inside of Amele's gut told her that they were all wrong. Her stomach twisted in worry and fear, her mind racing with the worst case scenarios. Daven was strong, though. He could fight off any attacker. There had to be another reason, there had to be. A chuckle from behind the teenager interrupted her thoughts. He twirled around, hoping desperately that her trainer would be behind her. Amele's hopes dropped as she saw Leila, the bratty archer, who had most likely noticed her worrying. "I see your trainer bailed out on you. That's tough, Amele, but not surprising. He probably found another young girl that he could try to get lucky with." Amele's face turned hot with anger, and she stepped toward the girl. "Shut up. Shut the hell up, turn around, and go suck at archery some more, because I really don't want to hear your obnoxious, pretentious voice ever again. Do you understand?" Leila opened her mouth to speak, but then must have noticed the height difference, and how Amele was much stronger than her. She frowned and turned around, but didn't even walk back to the archery targets. She just ran through the door. Amele smirked, and her eyes lit up as the door opened once more. But, however, it was not Daven, but a Peacekeeper that had stepped through the entryway. Great, she thought. What did I do this time?
"He's missing? But...how?" Amele's voice trembled in fear. Oh God no. Daven couldn't be gone, he couldn't. After all of the training he'd been through, there was no way someone could have bettered him. He was the best damn hand to hand fighter she'd ever met, there's no way, just no way..."His wife had stated that he never returned home last night, and she listed you as somebody who could have any idea of his whereabouts." So, her suspicions were correct after all. There was a girl involved with his life, and apparently, she knew a lot more about Amele than Amele knew about her. The teenager's mind raced back to what Leila had said. Was Daven just using her so that one day he would get in her pants? The thought sicked her, and she almost felt like she'd throw up. No, Daven wasn't like that. He couldn't be like that. Could he? "No, no. He...we really didn't talk much about his life. He was a good listener, but...no, I wasn't even aware he had a wife. Are you sure he didn't just go to a bar and get drunk and pass out on the side of the street?" The Peacekeeper stared at her for a while with a sympathetic glance, before continuing on. "We haven't ruled that out. We walked his usual route home, and we saw no signs of struggle along the way. However, nobody on the street last night remembered seeing him. This could go any way, Ms. Foster. We'll let you know when we find anything. For now, just go home." Amele wanted to cry. She just wanted to curl up in a ball, and cry, and imagine Daven's smiling face dead in a ditch somewhere, and cry even harder. However, she listened to the Peacekeepers, and headed home. Being at the center without Daven would be far too painful, and she'd actually rather just hole up in the Little Slice of Hell.
It was around midnight, and Amele lay in her bed staring at the something. How could she sleep when the closest thing she had to a best friend was missing? She tossed and turned, trying to swap the thoughts of Daven to thoughts of adorable little sheep jumping over fences. These thoughts just made Amele even angrier with the world than she already was. Why do these sheep need to be accounted for, but Peacekeepers won't do anything about looking for Daven until it might be too late? She couldn't take it anymore. Staying in the Little Slice of Hell was totally pissing off, and she couldn't rest until she was assured that Daven was alright. Her fingers latched on to the handle at the bottom of her window, her muscles able to pull up quickly with making minimal creaking noises. Amele was an expert at sneaking out, and he had done it many times before. Making sure everything was set up for her climb back into her room, Amele quickly fled the area. After going through the same spiraling streets, she finally arrived at the training center. It was empty, and apparently someone had forgotten to lock the door behind them, as the facility was free for her to use. Training cleared her mind, and there was nothing like the familiar training aroma that got her pumped to exercise. She reached for the knife she had lodged into the table just prior. Position 1, Position 2, Position 3. She shook her head. Doing this wouldn't help her mind set at all. She needed her sword. Amele sprinted toward the hidden corner nobody ever went, the place her sword was stashed into the concealed cranny.
And that's where she found Daven.
A spear was plunged into his gut, his pleading eyes begging for mercy. Amele choked out a sob, and quickly slid to the ground and took his wrist. It was cold as she pressed her fingers to it, hoping, waiting, praying for a pulse. There was nothing. "NO!" Amele cried, the tears endlessly pouring from her brown eyes. Not Daven. No, not Daven. Amele curled up into a ball and rocked as she sobbed, gasping for air whenever she got the chance. She felt so empty inside. Her heart felt as though it was being constantly stabbed like the spear through Daven's abdomen. Amele stood up, her pants soaked in the blood of her best friend. She backed up slowly, shaking her head, not believing this would happen.
And that's when she bumped into the figure behind her.
