Was there anything in this world that she had to worry about?
Brilliant was soaring on this beautiful day. Things in her father's shop were going wonderfully, and she was going to start learning how to run it. Surely there would be no other job for her in this world. Nobody in the District could weave those thin little chains quite like she could, there weren't many jewelers around who could untangle metal knots of kinks. Brilliant was proud of herself.
And why shouldn't she be?
Her parents doted on her.
Her teachers never complained.
But something was missing.
She needed some kind of action, some kind of adventure. Could she get that here? As far as she was concerned, yes. Brilliant was a simple minded girl, and at sixteen what else should she have been? Today was no different than any other day, as she lounged around in the top of a tree. The white cloth dress she wore draped haphazardly around the tree branch she perched upon, and her little white shoes were dangling from a branch four feet lower than her, in plain sight.
Did she want to be noticed?
Not necessarily.
But, a friend would be nice, wouldn't it?
She pursed her lips, her pea green eyes scanning the grounds below her. She laughed to herself, unable to help herself. "Mom would be so mad," mumbled the blonde, quickly pulling her hair up into a low, messy bun. The blonde could hear her mother's voice now, "Brilliant! What on Earth are you doing up in the trees?! Can't you just act like a normal young lady!"
With little regard to where she was placing her feet -- she had climbed this tree so many times in her life that it was a part of her -- she shimmied down the tree. Hitting the last branch, where her shoes hung, she jumped down onto the ground, and as luck would have it...
Right into a mud puddle she went.
"Oh shoot," she muttered, biting her bottom lip gently. She looked at her dripping dress, the hem that was once pure white was now dirty brown. "Mom is going to kill me!" Leaving her shoes Brilliant took off down the street, towards the hub of businesses here in the District, not paying attention to where she was running, or even who she might run into.
