Welcome to Camelot.
SWORDSMEN
Each evening, from December to December,
Before you drift to sleep upon your cot,
Think back on all the tales that you remember
Of Camelot.
“He will pay,” she whispered, her voice quiet in the darkness. Huddled in an alleyway as the icy rain poured, she looked tired. Cold. Weak. The very thought disgusted herself, and she pulled her black cloak tighter around her, slender fingers slipping in and out of the tiny tears in the once perfect onyx wool. There was once a time when she was feared, a great criminal who the Keepers could never catch. And we all know it is far better to be feared than loved. She was the evil queen of District One’s dark side and no one dared tell her otherwise.
That was before, when crime raged on the district streets, too lowly of a matter for Peacekeepers to be truly concerned about. Before the Swordsmen came into power. The thought of the gang, fighting against crime instead of for it, made her face harden as she gazed at the grit beneath her, ruby lips pressing together tightly and eyes flashing with a glimpse of rage usually so well contained. Led by the “magnificent” Arthur, they had effectively wiped crime in District One almost completely out of existence. Of course, there was the occasional robbery here, an assault there, but nothing more. Amateurs. She had committed worse crimes with both hands tied behind her back. Pitiful.
Arthur’s skill with the sword did not help. That was why they were called the Swordsmen, after all – each of them was very skilled in the way of the blade. How else could they have taken her power away so quickly? Her hands tightened into fists, clawsfingers digging deeply into the delicate skin of her palm, and she rose swiftly, glancing around. Oh yes, Arthur would indefinitely pay. Surely, there were others who would rally to her cause. They would be weak at first, but steadily they would rise. They would overthrow the Swordsmen. They would reclaim the district as their own. It belonged to her, after all. She was the one who had so kindly looked over it for so very long, not Arthur. She was the one who truly deserved all the power Arthur had. She was the eldest, after all. Prepare yourself, District One, she thought as she left the alleyway and joined others in rushing through the rain. Prepare yourself for the greatest feat you have ever seen. She smiled wickedly up at the black clouds above.
For we will not give up until my brother, Arthur, is dead, and our kingdom belongs to us once more. The Swordsmen plot, taking place in District One, focuses on the conflict between two gangs. One, known as the Swordsmen, fights against crime in District One, and is led by Arthur. The other is made up of the criminals Arthur beat down with his men. Basically, the plot is a Panem version of the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. This plot, among other things, will have romance, family angst, and horrible betrayal. It is application, not first come first serve, so please note that posting here does not ensure a place for you in the plot, and all characters are open until I say otherwise. ^^
The Mighty King Arthur [18, Male, Open] – Some say that he gained his sword from solid stone, the only one strong enough to pull it out, but many know this to be false. Arthur’s parents were blacksmiths, and they made the sword specially for him. Oh, what a weapon! Beautiful, fast, and with incredible fighting abilities that only enhanced Arthur’s own. Though young, Arthur is the leader of The Swordsmen, and he considers himself to be fair to all who obey him. While Arthur has never adored the idea of taking a life, he does not shy away from it. He was a Career, after all, and one of the best District One had to offer. He made his parents so proud, and continues to do so by fighting for justice on the streets. There is hardly a soul who could compare to the magnificence and strength of Arthur.
The Mysterious Merlin [17, Females, Chaos and South] – The advisors to Arthur, they rarely fight in battles themselves, but more often warn Arthur of coming dangers they may sense. Sometimes Arthur is too blinded by emotion to listen, but otherwise he usually values their opinions highly. For more information, read this and this. ^^
The Graceful Queen Guenevere [18, Female, Rosetta] – It is a difficult task indeed to find a fairer child of her age in District One. Beautiful, indeed, though her popularity is somewhat lost because of her refusal to take part in any Career training. Queen Guinevere is the rare kind of District One female that still believes in “following her heart” and all that nonsense. The problem is, no one knows where Guinevere’s heart lies. Though she dates Arthur, few can see if she truly returns his feeling. Merlin has always been especially way of Guinevere, though Arthur, too blinded by his emotions, does not listen to his advisor’s warnings against the relationship. It was Guinevere who provided the round table at which Arthur and his Swordsmen sit when making plans, hoping to promote equality among him and his men.
The Loyal Sir Lancelot [18, Male, Open] – Sir Lancelot is perhaps the strongest among the Swordsmen, though not quite as incredibly as Arthur himself, of course. Arthur considers Lancelot to be one of his closest friends and indeed his best fighter, sending him on all the missions of most importance. Lancelot is a bit full of himself at times, but has proven to be loyal, dependable, and actually quite likable. Despite being a proper warrior, he enjoys goofing around and playing practical jokes, which can sometimes be relieving after the tension of a fight. Somehow, however, these pranks always manage to spare Queen Guinevere, though no one takes particular notice.
The Lady of the Lake [16, Female, Open] – Not much is truly known about the Lady of the Lake. She is sometimes an ally to the Swordsmen, and sometimes not, depending on her mood. When she does decide to work for the gang, it is usually as a spy, for she is excellent in the ways of secrecy and disguise. Some do not believe that she is completely of sane mind, but she has proven herself by saving Arthur’s life on more than one occasion on the battlefield, restoring his sword to him and giving him lifesaving advice.
The Merciless Morgan [20, Female, Stare] – Few know of the blood relationship between Morgan and Arthur, though it seems Morgan can never rid herself of it. As a child, she strived to be the best Career and make her parents proud, but Arthur always managed to outshine her. She practiced every spare second of every day, but she was never good enough to win their affections. Eventually, she tired of trying to please everyone, and at the age of sixteen she ran away and never looked back. After that, she made a life for herself as a criminal, becoming greatly feared on the streets. After Arthur took control of the streets, Morgan formed a gang to defeat the Swordsmen, though she refused to lead it. Instead, she plans for the gang, slowly preparing for the murder of her brother.
The Suspicious Sir Mordred [18, Male, Open] – Sir Mordred is another of the Swordsmen. Though excellent at fighting, few save Arthur himself trust Mordred. However, should Arthur and Lancelot die unexpectedly, Mordred would take control of the Swordsmen. It is no secret that Mordred is eager for this new kind of power, for he is quite greedy. Oftentimes Mordred is easily misled, for anyone who can make him think he is important can easily manipulate. Arthur has managed to keep such manipulations at bay, but there are some who have become very interested in Mordred, thinking that perhaps he is the key to the Swordsmen’s downfall.
The Gallant Sir Gawain [17, Male, Open] – The youngest of the Swordsmen, Sir Gawain is always trying to prove himself worthy. He strives to impress his cousin, Arthur, and tries hard to be everything that the other Swordsmen are – loyal, fair, and wise. Like Sir Mordred, however, Sir Gawain is easily misled, though not for the same reasons. He simply trusts too easily and tries too hard, which worries Arthur.
The Lovesick Lady of Shalott [18, Female, Clover] – Another that is greatly trusted by Arthur, the Lady of Shalott is the only female among the Swordsmen. She is a fair maiden born to a rich family, and yet her parents always wanted more from her, making her train to be a Career. Despite her hesitation before the strike, the Lady of Shalott can be quite deadly. She has always had a bit of a crush on Sir Lancelot, though she never says so to anyone.[blockquote]Character Wanted:
