[/center]The Prometheus Conundrum
[/u]You can’t play God.[/size][/color]
For centuries upon centuries, human beings have flirted constantly with the idea of being and playing God, as if it were something that we could easily do. Become God. The phrase seems so much easier than it actually is. Throughout time, we’ve created artificial intelligence, found and created numerous minerals and elements, and even sometimes have altered biological structures. Though some cases have proved to be successful, more often than not, human beings have been failures. Time and time again, in the Capitol, scientists are changing and altering humanity through muttations.
A brand new experiment has hit the Capitol: The Prometheus Conundrum. Scientists have been assigned with the biggest project known to date: the creation of mutts that resemble humans in mentality and physicality. The ability to recreate a form of humans that will bend to the Capitol’s will would be an incredible thing indeed. With political leaders, rich people funding and backing up the experiment, and a group of scientists from all areas of the field of science, all is ready to go! Trial upon trial, error upon error, and after months of attempts, the trials are deemed suspended, and cancelled without chance of restarting. Left with no other option than to release the mutts into the wilderness, they hoped that the mutts would quickly die off; unfortunately, they thrived beautifully, and continued to roam the woods and trees, making home deep in the shadows. Combined with the fear of the Capitolites and the absolute fury of the Capitol government, the rag-tag bunch of scientists were half-forced, half-guilted into trudging into the woods after them.
Armed with little but camping gear and the outrageous clothes on their backs, these scientists, politicians, guides, guards, and money-enthusiasts must endure wilderness, the hunt for the monsters they created, interpersonal relationships, and themselves. A small cabin in the woods, provided for their stay while they hunt, is equipped with enough provisions for a month. All seems well in Wonderland, when suddenly communication cuts out from the Capitol, who deems them useless and unneeded; without a whisper of a warning, they are left alone to do whatever they can to get home. When left to your own accords in a forest after a life of being pampered, how would you prevail?
This plot toys not only with the consequences of playing God, but also personal problems that one deals with on a daily basis. Each character is an extreme based off a Greek God or Goddess, the twelve Olympians and Hades. Along with the God Complex, we’re going to be dealing with the hamartia, one’s fatal flaw. Each character is given one along with a short little bio below. If there’s enough interest in this plot, it’s easy enough to add more characters.
This is not a first come, first serve plot. We are looking for intermediate to advanced role-players who understand the powerful ideas behind this plot.

[/color][/size]The Cast
[/u]Zeus [35] [Name up to RPer.] – RESERVED FOR THUNDY[/color] RESERVED FOR THE MASTER COMMANDER ELEGANT
Zeus is the political leader backing the project. With his power, what Zeus says in the office, goes. There are no debates as to what he says in the office space, or else you’ll be out the door faster than you can say Olympus. Zeus has the ability to place who he wants where, and it’s easy to see that he favours the women. This womanizer, though he’s with Hera, isn’t reluctant to spread himself around to the “needy.” He uses his position and looks to abuse employees and what they’re doing. However, out of the office, what sort of man is he? In an office setting he’s powerful, however when left to fend for themselves in a forest, he must rely on his charm and cockiness to keep himself on top. But, charm hardly works on the intelligent.
Role in Plot: Politics
Hamartia: Power Abuse, Cocky, Over-Confidence
Hades [33] - [Amadeus 'Cerberus' Shepherd] - PLAYED BY DAMEN
A very rich Capitolite who is seeking a sense of adventure in his barren life. His wife, who he loved dearly, died recently, leaving him depressed and lonely. Doom and death have a way of following him. Hades, who is very wealthy, funds the mutt experiment. It’s often hard to entrap Hades in conversation. He’s lost in his own world in which people seem to have to wake him from the dead. For this reason, people are reluctant to talk to him. Hades is cursed with a thirst for adventure which isn’t quenched. He’s seeking a place better than the barred world he traps himself in. Hades insists on accompanying the group on their search in order to find that adventure.
Role in Plot: Finance
Hamartia: Wanderlust
Apollo [26] [Delphi Summers] - RESERVED FOR WONDER
Apollo is the Lead Doctor of this project. His grand ideas often get him into more trouble than it’s worth. Apollo believes that everything in the world can be bigger and better. His idealism often leaves him at fault when his grand ideas fail miserably. He’s generally pretty laid back, but once his passion grows for something, it’s hard to bring him back down to see the reality behind the situation – good or bad. He harbours fantastic ideas but they hold no logical sense. Fraternal twin to sister, Artemis, Apollo took a brighter look on life than his secluded sister.
Role in Plot: Lead Doctor
Hamartia: Idealism
Artemis [26] [Hala Joelle Summers] – PLAYED BY PIKA
A serious hatred developed within Artemis during her teenage years as she watched more and more construction take over the wilderness resulting in her camping just outside the Capitol in the woods. As a guide, she serves the purpose of leading the group of misfit Capitolites through forests, even though she’s reluctant. Having been betrayed in the past and having watched her one and only love die, Artemis has lost all ability to trust. Trust even falls short with her brother, Apollo, though she loves him dearly. Artemis is a recluse who seems to be beyond help. She’s no longer looking for the sun when the moon still shines a path for her.
Role in Plot: Guide
Hamartia: Trust Issues
Athena [24] [?] –
For such a young woman, Athena is extremely intelligent. More intelligent than anyone else in the department, except for maybe Dionysus, however he’s always too cloudy to make any plans. At the ripe age of 24, Athena has already claimed the role of supervisor, assigned to her by Zeus himself. Athena’s knack for planning out every detail has been very useful to the experiment. Athena is the type to analyze and plan out absolutely situation before going in to it, even in her everyday life, leaving her social life almost bare. She’s not willing to take a risk without it being calculated. Everything in her life is safe. Her smarts are above par, yet her life experience is next to zero. Incalculable variables freak her out to death, which is why the forest is so scary to her. Too many things that can’t be calculated. Is a closed off, planed world really all that safe in the end?
Role in Plot: Supervisor, Plan-Maker
Hamartia: Lack of Spontaneity, everything is logic
Hera: [32] [Name up to RPer.] – RESERVED FOR MATTA
Hera is a jealous and vindictive woman. As the fertility doctor, Hera thought she was a shoe in for project supervisor, only to have it snatched away by someone new and fresh, Athena. Hera is with Zeus and thought that he would assign her. She wasn’t even lead doctor. Her hatred towards Athena and Apollo is strong and she’ll do anything to take over their positions, and being alone in a forest leaves open plenty of opportunity. On the outside, Hera is happy and fun-loving, wanting everybody on the team to be a big, happy family. She keeps up this mask quite often and with great success. Don’t cross her, she’ll attack you. Hera, though not the leader will still boss you around regardless as if she’s in charge. Never cross a woman on a mission.
Role in Plot: Fertility Doctor
Hamartia: Bossy
Aphrodite [20] [Name up to RPer.] – RESERVED FOR PTHALO
Having no experience in the scientific world and being low in the social hierarchy, Aphrodite is sort of an outcast to the group. Aphrodite is a stylist hired to ensure the physical beauty of the humans they are attempting to recreate. New and inexperienced but with tons of talent, one would think that she is closed off and avoidant of the group of scientist. However, that’s not the case. Aphrodite has a strong sense of self-confidence (if you put it in a positive light.) She is incredibly beautiful and she knows it, using her beauty to have unsuspecting males bend to her will. With her intense good-looks comes an incredible sea of narcissism. Her hatred towards people usually relies on their physical beauty (which explains her total hatred for Hephaestus.)
Role in Plot: Stylist
Hamartia: Narcissism
Hephaestus [22] [Salvator "Grease" Hephateus] – PLAYED BY CASS
Hephaestus is totally and completely disgusting. He works as an engineer and helps out with the overall building of the mutt – and that’s the only reason that he’s around. His grotesque appearance is enough to turn absolutely anyone away from him. Covered in a thick layer of oil and grease, as well as unruly hair and his belly button and bum crack sticking out, it’s no wonder that people avoid him. But, he’s good at what he does – when he does it. Hephaestus is horribly lazy. When he does something, he puts tremendous effort into it, however, the matter of getting him to do something is a miracle in itself. He’s quite a nice guy under all the oil and grease, but it’d be nice if he’d wash it off so we could see it.
Role in Plot: Physics, Engineer
Hamartia: Laziness
Dionysus [27] [Name up to RPer.] – RESERVED FOR NOFO
Dionysus is a weird man, even by Capitol standards. A genius who learned and studied about the human reaction to physical, mental, and emotional pleasure, Dionysus leads one of the most important areas in bringing human aspects to their experiment. However, it’s not so easy. Years of studying pleasure has led Dionysus to become an addict on the Panem version of ecstasy, called Stasia. Dionysus is far out of this world and a little bit crazy, except a real genius if you can pull him out of one of his hazes. But, he’s an addict, what can you do?
Role in Plot: Human Pleasure
Hamartia: Addiction
Hermes [18] [Quatorze Heramion Coyote] –PLAYED BY KAY
New into the big grand world of science, Hermes is a simple sociologist. You could easily take a guess at the fact that he’s an expert in human communication by how much he talks. The other scientist get easily annoyed by him, making him fetch them things like coffee, or things they need. Due to his monkey boy-type job he’s gotten, communication has barely gotten anywhere with their experiment. But, because Hermes is always running around everywhere, and his small and hardly noticeable stature, he’s learned a thing or two about other scientists. He aspires to get somewhere in the science world and will use absolutely everybody with their secrets. His manipulation tactics are full proof, and the Capitol scientists can do little against this abnormally cunning young one. Perhaps they shouldn’t have underestimated or used the young one.
Role in Plot: Sociologist
Hamartia: Manipulation
Demeter [31] [Name up to RPer.] – RESERVED FOR LALIA
Demeter, as an environmental scientist, studies natural habitat and animal instinct. At home in the forest, she isn’t so helpless as some of the others, and in fact enjoys watching them squirm. Holding an eerie similarity in looks to Hades recently deceased wife, she tries to avoid him at any costs possible. Demeter hates society and their constant building outwards, killing forests, killing animals. This bitterness tends to build up within her and explodes. Demeter can also be very happy as well. Especially when the beauty of nature surrounds her. It’s hard for Demeter to control her emotions when they go up and down like a roller coaster, but she tries. Friendship comes hard to this lonely woman who’s constant mood swings hurt almost every relationship she gets in. For this character, we're asking for a MATURE role player, who can handle such a mental illness.
Role in Plot: Environmental Science
Hamartia: Bipolar Disorder
Poseidon [25] [Name up to RPer.] – RESERVED FOR
A man who has spent his whole life studying human emotion. Poseidon is basically a walking oxymoron. For a man who studies human feelings so fervently, Poseidon can’t express his own emotions in any sense. Poseidon knows that he should feel happy, or sad, or compassionate at some points, though he just can’t physically express them. Perhaps that’s why he originally took up studying emotions, to find his own. To others, the man seems so serious constantly, divulged in his work, unknowing of his struggles. Poseidon’s ultimate goal is to feel, which he believes he’ll find in accomplishing something fantastic, like the mutt. The ocean is large, and it’s hard to find one little pearl when he’s never seen one.
Role in Plot: Emotions
Hamartia: Lack of Expression
Ares [28] [Name up to RPer.] –[/color] RESERVED FOR SEMPER
Ares isn’t all there, mentally. Being constantly surrounded by a group of scientists, Ares is the dumb one, even next to Aphrodite. Brains isn’t important to this stereotypical Brawn. Ares listens so much to Athena, the supervisor, who’s plans, to him at least, are positively genius. He serves as the guard to the group, not knowing a single thing about the experiment or science as a whole. Getting heated up too often is one of his down falls. The smallest of tricks puts Ares into a rage that cannot be stopped. People like Hermes often get him into a rage, just for the hell of it. His extreme temper is only a small problem next to his strong-headedness. Once Ares sets his mind on something, no matter the consequences, he will do it. Brawn definitely isn’t better than brain.
Role in Plot: Guard
Hamartia: Strong-Headed, Extreme Temper
Thanatos [20] [Nathaniel Mors Pavot] –[/color] PLAYED BY WINDY
Thanatos is described as a sad yet beautiful being. As a child, death seemed to follow him around. From flowers that would never seem to grow properly, to the loss of his politician parents in what was made to be a tragic accident. Thanatos is the type of person who should be bitter and awful, though that’s hardly the case. Though he attempts to be cynical and awful, he’s just sad. At 18, Thanatos followed his parents through the political, and ended up under the wing of Hades. Thanatos is the strong silent type, though ultimately, he can never get his points across. He is very smart, but no one ever takes the time to stop and listen, leaving usually more people injured than safe.
Role in Plot: Assistant
Hamartia: Pushover[/blockquote][/size]
