Jason "Killer Bee" Merrick
Today was the day. The day, like every other day, where Jason would wake up, throw on an old shirt hung up on the rusty nail sticking out of his bedroom wall, and waltz into the District 3 factory to make more explosives. Today, Jason would find himself with nicks and scratches along his already chaliced hands from working with the shrapnel. It’s not really an unusual day, not at all. His work schedule was the same, he made the same products, and he left work at the same time without ever once complaining. But, today was different. Today was the anniversary of Colton’s, his older brother, death. Colton died in a past hunger game, right at the end. Right before victory. Place; 2nd. To Jason, his family’s past appearance meant nothing to him in terms of honor. But he did miss his brother, dearly. To the point that if his name was brought up, the tough, scab ridden individual could have droplets of tears fall from his eyes. But of course, his name was never brought up.
He sat down at the old, wooden table inside the main room of his parent’s house and waited patiently and quietly for his father to come home. Jason’s mother sat to the right of him, with a face of stone not wanting to start a conversation. The world was a dastardly place at this time, and anything spoken would eventually lead to some kind of eruption; either in anger, or in sadness.
The front door squeaked open and in came Jason’s father; warn out and bruised. Ever since his father got demoted from work for punching the boss straight in the face because of their families’ relationship, he had been working in the worst part of the district, where he collected the different metals from scrap piles and junkyards to supply the factories.
Everyone in the room was silent. The only thing heard was the distant sound of the nearest factory, churning out bombs and other weapons. Jason’s father sighed and walked into the parents’ bedroom and slowly shut the door. This was then followed by his mother’s slump onto the table into a semi-sleep. Jason looked at the clock on the wall and decided that there was still daylight to go out and have some alone time. He slowly stood up, and walked right out the front door.
Sitting up in a branch in a large oak tree, Jason wondered what was honestly out there. If life would really just be in this shut in town. It really didn’t matter, seeing as besides his family, no one was that close to him… He heard a rustle of leaves underneath and behind him. Without turning, he managed to softly speak the words, Who’s there..?
