[Ruby Tuesday, 17] Reserved for Luke: She’s 17, and grew up about as eightish as you can get. Never fusses or fights with no one, unless she has to, and loves to laugh more than anything else. Grown up knowing she’d be a seamstress like her ma and me-maw, but always dreamed that she would[/color] be something bigger. Likes to sing and dance, smoke and drink, and thinks she could put on quite the show in the capitol someday. Best friends with Leslie Anne, those two get into all sorts of trouble. They live together in a tiny little shoebox across from Squiggy and Tenny, and have been best friends ever since she moved away from her ma. She’s Daniel’s sister, and she looks up to him in every possible way. Every weekend she goes to see Daniel perform at The Hole. And lord help you if you say anything about it—Ruby can pack quite a wallop when she wants. She works for Mrs. Elderwood’s, and probably can sew faster than she can talk (and understand it better too).
[Leslie Anne Levine, 17] [open]: You see that girl over there with the smirk on her face? Yah, she’s the one that’ll do you in, man. Watch while she walks, that grace and wiggle like you never did see—she’s the one that’ll have you on the floor afore she says hello. And while she laughs like a hyena and drinks like a sailor, ain’t no one that can set you straighter than Leslie Anne. She’s got a head on her shoulders—not sure where that came from—some folk say it’s on account of having to help her uncle raise little ones at home. It’s why she took on the seamstress job. She’s always sending most of it back home, probably why she keeps so thin, never enough to eat for herself. She keeps Ruby on the ground—if no one did, that girl might float clear away—and ain’t nobody but nobody messes with Ruby if she’s around. Quite the practical joker, too. She likes a laugh more than anything—but I swear I’ve seen her off on her own a few times, when it’s late at night.
[Daniel “The Queen” Tuesday, 18] [open]: Where do you even start with the older Tuesday sibling? He’s smart as a whip, and one of the prettiest boys in the district. Oh, he grew up to be a tailor like his pa and pe-paw, and it shows—couldn’t get a better suit if you asked. He has a natural eye for color and all things that you’d think only stylists in the capitol would know. For a boy his age he’s awfully sweet, sometimes too much so. Looks after his sister, specially after they lost their father so young. Tried being the man of the house, but that didn’t work out too well—so he and Ruby moved out and send money to their mother, who lives with one of her childhood friends. Takes it upon himself to be his sister’s keeper, stoking her dreams about nonsense and all things childish, thinking maybe he can keep her younger a little longer. The other side of him o’ course, is “The Queen”. See, Daniel performs at the Hole—been doing the act since he was 16, he has—and so he parades around, singing and dancing like a woman. Can’t believe it myself, but people go wild for him. He’s got a voice unlike anyone I’ve ever seen, and a wit that’s as dry as he is. Gives him some trouble sometimes—people in this district can’t make up their minds one way or another—on account of him pushing so hard to be a ‘star’. But it lets him dream and keeps him happy. Inspires some others, too.
[Leonard “Squiggy” Goldstein, 17] [open]: Fastest talker you ever did meet. Constantly flirting with all the girls, especially Ruby Tuesday & Leslie Anne, since he lives next door to them. Likes to play practical jokes and insert himself where he doesn’t belong. Perpetually afraid of Daniel, on account of the fact that he’s so short and he’s threated to beat the crap out of him while he was wearing a dress. [/color]Usually a pretty gentle guy, even if you catch him at the right moments. Grew up with four brothers, and is the youngest one. Kind of the runt of the litter, ain’t much taller than Ruby, though she does have height on a few in the district. Never likes to say much about his parents, since they say both of them either moved away or disappeared a few years ago.
[Rollie “Tenny” Carencia, 17][open]: Tenny—called that because of the time he ate ten whole pies in a sitting (as the legend goes)—well he likes to do whatever Squiggy does. He’ll play the practical jokes and he’ll laugh along with him, but he ain’t never no good at coming up with something on his own. People say he’s a little touched in the head, but he does all right as a tailor. More even keeled and calm, so people warm up to him better. He also seems to be nicer to the girls, even if he ain’t the handsomeist guy in the district. Got an older sister and a younger one too. Good sense of what’s right when it counts. Although he gives in to peer pressure pretty easily, doin’ whatever he’s told to do. He also absolutely hates swimming… no one really knows why, though.
[Mrs. Deirdre Elderwood, 31] [open]: Takes a lot to be able to run your own shop in the district. ‘Specially the quality of stuff that comes out of the Elderwoods. Her pappy made a name for himself, and she fell right in line to be in charge. Had to shank some of her other family members to get to run it, but now that’s all dead and buried, she’s the dictator of the shop. Works her girls hard—and she only hires girls—until they practically drop. If they can’t handle it she’s the first one to ship them out. But she whips them into such shape as you ever did see. Doesn’t tolerate no fussin’ or fightin’ in her shop. Also seems to have some connections with the shadier part of town, but the girls never really know what’s going on with her. She watches over them like a mother hen—squawkin’ when she needs too, but ready to peck the eyes out of anyone that gets in their way. Never had no kids, and ain’t the prettiest bird to look at neither. She does all right though. Too busy runnin’ her shop makin’ a profit to care.
So them’s the folks that have this here story. They like to get into trouble, like the time they went to the watering hole and lost their clothes, when they brought a cat home that had kittens which turned out to be skunks, and their landlord almost caught ‘em for having varmints in the house, or the boys playin’ pranks on the girls to get them in trouble. Yeah, it’s simple fun, but there’s something deeper to all of ‘em if you scratch hard enough. I guess I just need to know, is you one of ‘em, or is you ain’t?
[And so there you have it. This plot is essentially about the main 3—Daniel, Ruby, and Leslie Anne, so as soon as the other two main characters are cast I’d love to start a thread. The secondary characters will be free to join in at any point, but aren’t necessary to start things rolling. I already have a thread with Ruby Tuesday up here if you’re curious what she’s like. For this plot, I’m looking to moderate to advanced roleplayers, but I’ll judge what exactly that means by your work. This is not first come first served, so if other people have jumped inas if y’all will so quickly feel free to apply.]

The little houses and apartments are stacked up with as many people as can fit, which brings out the usual rambunctiousness. ‘Specially if the ones who are tied up together are young. They have their eyes on somethin’ ‘sides work, and are always fussing with one another. Suppose it does the old heart right to see it though, all of them so young and still enjoyin’ themselves, not thinking about tomorrow. Not thinkin’ about death that might lurk right around the corner. Naw, they get on in the factories and shops well, and go out and make merry at night. It’s how we keep the district runnin’, on the blood of the young and hopeful. Is you or ain’t you one of them, hmm?Plain as I could ever tell, District 8 has been one for the simpler things. You can see it in the tailors and the seamstresses that make their ways to the sweatshops and whatnots all around.
