DECATHLON: 100M SPRINT

Welcome to the Decathlon tournament of the very first Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character on the starting blocks and running, and then paste the code [*dice=349+1050] without the asterisks into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a four-digit number that will correspond to a time, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 1264 is read as 12.64 seconds)

The competitor with the lowest time wins this event. Times for this event will be continually updated on this thread; however, the overall decathlon standings will be updated on a separate thread.

After everyone has rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your shots whenever you please. Keep in mind, though, that this is meant to move pretty fast, so we're not looking for exceedingly long posts.

Thinking about how long she'd waited for this opportunity, how long she'd dreamed of glory, of fame, she only grew more and more excited to dominate everybody that was around her. She could do it. She could actually be what her Mother had always wanted. That thought alone gave her the drive to succeed. She was going to win, she was going to become famous. It was simple really, and anybody who tried to step in her way would regret it. Nobody messed with a Bryze. It didn't even matter if she was the youngest of the three cousins, she was still just as capable of doing this. All three of them were there. Julian and Clarity were trying to do the same thing, as if Julian actually needed it. She wished it was her that was in the games. She wished it was her that had won, but like always, Julian was the first to dive in and achieve what he wanted. It was amazing, really, how he always seemed to be waiting for the other two to catch up.

It was bull shit.

This time it was going to be her that made her mark. She was going to stand out, and she was going to receive praise. Julian acted like he didn't even want it anymore. Maybe it was because of his boyfriend that was oh-so important to him. Whatever. She was through wasting her time thinking of the things she couldn't change. t was time for her to shine, and as she walked up to her starting position, a fierce gaze that was set straight in front of her kept her serious. She was determined to be a winner. She couldn't fail. She wouldn't fail. When she heard the shot, she ran with everything she had.

Running. Throughout all her years of Career training, she'd never mastered long-distance; she simply didn't have the stamina for it, so she wasn't particularly looking forward to that portion of the decathlon. This, however - the 100 meter sprint - was something she could handle. Or, at least, she had been able to handle; whether or not she still had it remained to be seen, because she'd certainly not been doing her body any good since she left the arena. It was times like these that she wished she'd actually gone to the gym to work out once in a while, or go for a run around the streets of the Capitol or District One, or do something besides drink and dance and wallow. But who could've known Snow would ever initiate an event like this?

It was worth it to try, though. And it felt good to be competing in something again, particularly something that wouldn't result in the deaths of the losers. Something that involved showing your own skill, rather than hurting others. The redhead lined up on the starting line - lane one, of course - beside all the other competitors, some of whom still hadn't gotten used to her presence though she'd seen a lot of them around already. That's the price of fame, sweetheart. Everyone's in awe of you. Once upon a time, that would've been exactly what Topaz Ross wanted. But now? Well, after five years she was pretty sure she'd be just fine without it.

Take your mark. Topaz crouched down and prepared to begin the sprint, her muscles remembering this familiar motion from training although it had been so very long. Get set. The announcer's voice rang out and she blocked out everything else, focusing on nothing except the track ahead of her. Bang! The sound of the starting gunshot. Topaz Ross took off running.

First, it was the water that had so softly embraced her within its gentle grasp. During her experience at the pool her heart had been pounding within her chest as if attempting to leap into her throat, and being the girl who never attracted a second glance from her family members without making some attempt to she had experienced a foreign sensation standing in the midst of a large area with eyes boring into her and cameras recording her at every possible angle. That, however, was the past. Diving was over, and although she hadn’t achieved the highest score she was still grateful to have decided to participate in the Olympics. Now, it was time for the first portion of the decathlon to start - something she no doubt could kick her sister’s ass in. Unfortunately, since Priscilla had backed out of joining there was no chance to humiliate her in front of her own proud, terrible parents, but that didn’t stop the competition from turning intense. Not only was she sharing the experience with a Bryze, but Topaz Ross herself was competing in the decathlon. A victor. Someone who should be able to destroy everyone’s chances with her experience.

The thought didn’t comfort Miss Locust Lovelace.

Still, she knew she couldn’t automatically let them win without at least trying to exceed her limits to achieve victory. She, too, had a desire to win just like everybody else, and how powerful this desire was would depend on her determination. She wished she could identify just how determined she truly was, but in comparison to everyone else, who could say hers was the strongest? She could be a weakling standing beside these infamous faces. She could appear a pathetic dog sprinting behind them. Whatever the outcome, Locust was going to test her skills once and for all and see just how well she could prove herself to…well, herself. To the family that treated her like a servant. She despised the Lovelaces, but perhaps if she performed well in the Olympics they would develop some sort of respect for her.

The ridiculous thought made her chuckle under her breath as she prepared her stance and waited for the sprint to commence.

Four FINALLY had the chance to show off his skills. And he wasn’t risking his life, either. Panem Olympics was the perfect time for a Career, and he managed to make it. This would be the time of his life and he hoped not to screw it up. The district 2 lad managed to make 2 events, the decathlon and weight lifting. He wanted to make his father proud, it’s not like Charles made any events. Four took another sip of his water bottle, before he was ushered to the field where he would do the first event for the decathlon, the 100 meter sprint.

Sweat trickled down his face, and it wasn’t even because he was running. He was nervous that he would screw it up. His father would yell at him, that he messed all it up and he made a bad name to the Land’s. He would lock him up in the death room, still yelling at him. Before he locked Four up, he would undo his belt and whack him multiple times. Even though he was 17 years old now, the blonde haired lad’s father wasn’t afraid to do it to him. Maybe even make him go up on the roof again like he was a child… it was terrible, these thoughts. Four tried to shrug them off but they kept coming back to him like a ghost. Four made it a promise to himself he wouldn’t let anything distract him, not the screaming crowds, not even the thoughts of his father. He got in his stance to run by crouching down… and he waited. Waited for the shotgun to shoot one of the bullets rapidly. Don’t let anything cross his mind but running… he was the fastest runner in District 2! Or at least, that was what he thought. “Come on… Come on…” He whispered to himself quietly while waiting for the bullet.

BAM!

Four ran. He bolted from the starting. He ran as fast as he could do. He fought off the pain he felt in his stomach from running… “Just one more step…” He encouraged himself with words.

This is the time to show the other districts that we come play for keeps.He took a quick second to stretch his legs. He knew it was time for one of the hardest events. The 100m sprint. He could see some good competitors. But he knew it could all be over in the blink of a eye. He got into postion on the starting line. He put his feet onto the starting blocks and looked to his right and left.

He breathed slowly to keep the energy down. It felt like time slowed down for him. He could hear only himself. He saw the ref with the gun that would start them off. He couldn't lose. He got this far and he would win. Hell he was determined.

"Bang"

He heard the shot and took off. He hoped he was fast enough compared to the other runners. [dice=349+1050]

Apex shook his limbs out to relieve the tension that had built up from waiting too long. He wasn’t even sure why he entered the Decathalon, but the chance to be named the best overall athlete was too much to pass up. In Career training, he was all about technique and vigilance, but this was about pure athleticism. If anything, this was more of a means to an end, a way to scout out possible tributes, and maybe even victors. More that that, it was a chance to get away from D1, a luxury even the victors didn’t have too often.

The other competitors were quite intimidating. Most looked faster, pretty much all of them looked stronger. But Apex White had confidence in himself, and even if he were to lose, he would go down like a champ. He was much more concerned about the combat events. He had never gotten a chance to hone his skills against kids from other districts, and he was simply excited to spread his name.

Apex readied himself for the sprint, and when the race started, he muttered under his breath as he got off to an extremely faulty start.

Despite the fact that Tiger Rex had a whole host of siblings that were more than capable of competing along side him in these Panem Olympics, his father had insisted that he go alone to represent the family. It was probably a good move for Mr. Rex, as his sons and daughters tended to disregard the 'friendly' in friendly competition and there were enough Rex children to result in some event overlap. The last thing he needed was one of his kids to smash another's jaw in boxing, to be a little too liberal with the sleeper hold in wrestling. To avert such a crisis, the four eldest Rex boys drew straws and Tigirius selected the longest.

Thus, Tiger was all alone for practically the first time in his sibling-filled life. Or, at least, he was without family; Tiger thrived in social situations and was thrilled to be around so many new faces. The majority of the careers seemed a bit standoffish and weren't quite so keen on socializing with the competition, but that didn't stop the ginger from trying to chat up everyone in his vicinity. Not even the judges, timekeepers, or some of the peacekeepers that were running event security escaped his notice. Perhaps between the 100m and the discus throw, he would be able to hold an actual conversation with some of his peers, who for the most part seemed focused much too intently to pay him any mind.

The tributes were called to the starting block and Tiger took his place in his assigned lane. Half of the competitors were from his district, including their most recent victor, and the remainder were from Two, save for a single blue jacket. It had seemed as if most of the District Fours had been drawn to the swimming competitions, which they would doubtlessly dominate, while the rest of the events saw a fairly even divide between One and Two. Tiger wasn't sure if he was looking for personal glory or to add to the renown of his district, which had been faltering in recent Hunger Games, but he was brimming with energy by the time he put his feet in the starting blocks up at the line. He took a deep breath and trained his eyes on the starting pistol, which he knew would be fired any moment. A split second after the gun released a puff of smoke, Tiger took off to the tune of a wicked BANG!

Running isn't easy. No matter how many times someone says "Running 100 meters is nothing," never actually tried. Because when you push your legs and pump your arms as fast and as hard as you can, it isn't easy at all. As I walk out onto the track, I think about how fast this will go, but how long it will seem. How this quick event is just a short portion of another. But I can't get caught up in distractions, even if Topaz Ross is racing against me. Her hair is shining in the sun and I can't help but keep the corner of my eye focused on her. She has an advantage. She has confidence. She has skill. She won the frikken Hunger Games for Ripred sake, of course she's a favorite. But even if I love her, I have to win. With my feet in place, and my hands gently touching the track, I feel ready. All through my body I can feel my heart pounding. I can feel the hundreds of eyes glued to their television, rooting for their District.

I wonder who is rooting for me.
