She was the only daughter of the Baitwells. Her two brothers looked up to her, though neither would admit it. She was very caring towards the two of them, and her parents for all they pushed her to train on and on through her teenage years. Every day she would seek a way to best her older brother, Ray, in some way during training. As well, she always worried about Reef, her younger brother, since she could sense his fear. She would always cover for him whenever he couldn't watch the Games.
She was a career, born and bred, trained from the age of eight to compete and kill. When she was reaped her parents were excited to see her make the family proud. Her siblings expressed a lot more care for her feelings, Reef somehow holding his fear back and Ray letting down his walls for a while. She had clung to them for as long as she could, until the Peacekeepers had dragged them away from her.
The days before the Games weren't so bad. Together with her district partner, the now victor Leon Krigel, she got drunk on the train and they were able to push away the thought of the doom that lay ahead of them. In the Capitol, she was primped and preened to make the Capitolites love her - which seemed to work because she later became the most-sponsored tribute of that Games, and perhaps ever - and trained further and more intently now that the threat of death was imminent. At first, she met with the pair from Eleven and the girl from Six, planning to ally with them for her time in the Games. She spent only a short time with them, before never seeing them again. Her private training session was her final chance to enjoy water for over a week. She dove and spun and swam her way to receiving a nine from the Gamemakers.
The bloodbath was a chaos she hadn't been able to fathom or to handle, and she fled quickly. Her would-be allies were nowhere to be found and so she wandered alone until she found Leon. Together they went on to find two more stragglers and form a band of four. Four, four, eight, nine. It was the game of Fours for it was on day four that the first of the four of them died. Jacinda, poisoned by giant lizards, had died while they just watched. There was nothing they could do, no way to heal her or take her place. It was the first of four deaths.
Day five had been the day that May had been separated from her and Leon, her face appearing in the sky that night to their sorrow. That was the night the pair from four had lost their last friend. That was the night the pair from four went opposite ways. She fought and killed twice, passing days six and seven in a blur of throwing knives and flames. On the seventh night she did not sleep, knowing once the anthem coloured the sky that there were only two left: the pair from four.
Day eight, eight is four plus four and so it was. Leon had found her, had taken it upon himself to be the one to make it four again. There could not be eight, there could not be two. They had to divide, and he had done it.
Even at the end, though, she could not let him have the satisfaction of killing her. He thought that it was his blade that had killed her but instead she had given herself to the one thing she loved more than anything else: the water. The rain had fallen through their entire fight, an homage to what their lives had been about, and around their knees had swirled muddy water. It was this that finally took the life of Siren Baitwell, and nothing else.
SIREN BAITWELL
The middle child of her family, the only one who truly cares for her younger brother, she is very much caught in the middle of her family. At the age of sixteen she still has a chance to get into the Games so coveted by all but Reef. In the Career District of four, she blends herself in with the rest of the Careers pretending to only care about the Games, like her older brother Ray, even as she worries for Reef.I try to think about rainbows
When it gets bad
You got to think about something
To keep from going mad
I try to think about big fat roses
When the ship starts going down
But my head is wicked jealous
Don't want to talk about it right now
FROM OCEAN TO SHORE, I WANDER
As the sister of the famous Reef Baitwell, famous for all the wrong reasons, she held her own spotlight. Despite the attention given to her brothers, Ray for his strength and training prowess, and Reef for his... situation, Siren caught her own little crowd of on lookers. Her hair, a kind of dirty-blonde colour that fell in wavy locks down the side of her face and the back of her neck, was always stylishly cut. She had bangs that had their own bit of wave to them, which fell across her forehead while being slightly swept to the right. They were just long enough to cross over the outer edge of her right eye, but it didn't bother her too much. Although, a clear tell for her was when she tries to pull her bangs back behind her ear.
Beneath the cover of her bangs sit her two eyebrows, both a slightly darker shade of her hair colour. They are gently curved, framing the tops of her eyes. It's her eyes that catch the most attention, with their pale green-blue colour that's so much like the sea that it's only natural that they belong to someone from District four. Below her eyes lay a sprinkling of faint freckles, from all the time out in the sun while training, swimming or when she helped her dad on the fishing boat while Reef had been... gone. However, they are so pale that most people wouldn't notice them until they looked for a while, or got close. Since she didn't really let anyone do so, it wasn't much of a problem for her.
Her nose, slightly long for her face and somewhat wedge shaped, is perfectly centered and straight. She had never been hit in the nose, though it was a bit of a surprise. All of her training hadn't ended with her having broken her nose, or even having a nose bleed. A little further down her face are her lips, slightly darker than the rest of her skin, and much pinker. Her teeth, hidden behind her lips most of the time, are luckily straight. They aren't perfect, a couple of them being a bit crooked.Long distance

FROM EDGE TO HILT, I WONDER
The overall shape of her face is rectangular, though it narrows into a square chin. Because of her bangs, it's harder to notice her large forehead but when she brushes them aside, or when she gathers all of her hair back, it's easily seen. More often than not, her hair is wet, whether from sweat or sea water, and she only dries it enough that it doesn't drip. The neck that continues from below her strong jaw is elegant but sturdy, flowing into surprisingly well-muscled shoulders. Because of her training in things besides the trident, such as the bow, spear and knives, as well as the normal high amount of swimming, the muscles in her shoulders had become quite large.
From her shoulders extend long, graceful arms, muscled like her shoulders and capable of suspending her own weight, as well as propelling her through the water. Her hands are mostly palm, and her fingers are slightly stubby. Her torso is flat, except for her relatively small bust. Since she attracted a few glances with her overall appearance, and she didn't really care for love at the moment, the lack of large breasts didn't upset her. If a guy was going to like her, it would have to be for more than her cup size.
Her stomach is flat, with faint washboard abs from her extensive training. Long muscled legs stretch from sharp hips, which, while not being while, stand out against her mostly straight frame. Her legs are muscled like her arms, and their powerful kick is a harsh blow, as well as a wonderful way for her to make her way through the water.
While she is training, she wears traditional workout clothing, such as cotton shorts that barely reach mid-thigh and a tank top. While that gear is easy to train in, she often enjoys wearing light dresses, especially in the summer, or even just her bikini. In the winter, she may dress in jeans and a hoodie, but for the most part this Career girl puts practical on hold while out of the training hall. There's just something about you
That gets me in a twist
And sometimes I think
That cupid is just taking the piss
It only takes one word or idea
To send me in real deep
So if you think you're clever
Use the right words when you talk to me
YOUNGER BROTHER, I LOVE HIM, IS GONE NOW
Everyone knows her as Ray's sister, or Reef's sister, the devoted Career and strong opponent. It's the front she keeps up for everyone, the hard shelled girl who only cared about the Games, be it training for them, watching them, or wanting to win them. Holding this act was easy, as it was just expanding a part of herself into her entire personality, but it wasn't the true her. The real Siren was a complex grouping of feelings, and hidden emotions.
With all of the attention her brothers get, and the way that she is usually referred to as Ray's or Reef's sister, it would be easy to think that she would be jealous of her brothers. In truth, she doesn't care all that much about that, instead taking it as a compliment that she is actually recognized at all, even if it's by her brothers' titles. Though the reason her brother is so famous had taken quite the toll on her. When she had first heard of the murder her brother had been accused of, every instinct in her had screamed that there could have been no way. She knew that Reef wasn't like that, he was too sensitive and delicate to kill someone.
The thought of her brother, an Avox kept in the Capitol and forced to serve a Capitolite family, made her despair. She wished only for none of that to have happened, or at least for him to be home where she could keep an eye on him. Her wish had been granted, with a slight twist of fate. She had nearly collapsed in relief when she heard that Reef could come home, the only thing that kept her standing was that she was around her family.
Unlike many members of District four, who only felt pity for the "avox-child" as he was known, she held true sadness for him. It tore at her that he had given up so much to get away, she had figured out what had happened, though no one else cared enough to, only to be thrown back into it. This time, however, he didn't have a way to speak for himself. She never lets him know that she had figured out why he had done what he had done, knowing that he would fear she might tell their parents. Instead, she holds it as a reason to admire him. He was willing to sacrifice so much, even if it was only for his own protection. To her, it was braver than the Careers who charge into the Games.Long distance

OLDER BROTHER, MY COMPETITION, HAS STAYED
Her own view on the Games is complicated. In one sense, she enjoys them, the competition and fabled glory as well as the thought of finding a use for all of her training, but on the other hand, she knows how much it costs people. It's not hard to see that the lucky aren't necessarily the ones who survive, the haunted looks in the Victors' eyes tell it all. The only one she would ever tell that to is Reef, but for the time being she just relishes in having him back, missing tongue or no.
The relationship between Siren and her parents is an odd one, pull taught by the shell that she had created to please them. While she doesn't like them, or their idea of the Games and the way they pressed their three children to train, they love her for her seeming enjoyment of training, and the Games in general. Her brothers, though, are a different story. She loves both of her brothers, despite their flaws and differences in opinions. Ever the middle child, she is like the balancing point between the two boys, the only reason why they both don't hate the other. For all they can make her feel like the messenger, or even the translator, there would be no way that she could choose between the two of them.
What makes her able to so easily put up the illusion of her infatuation with the Games, and to deal with the challenges of her parents, is her independence. For all she enjoyed having such a strong older brother, she felt that she shouldn't be in his shadow for the rest of her life. Even her parents had cast their shadow over her, and she had to break free and find her own spotlight. Coming with the independence was stubbornness, there was no way you could make this girl roll over and play dead, she was no eager-to-please pup but instead a strong young feline, ready to attack and only willing to do as she pleased. Naturally, independence and stubbornness would lead to pride. But she's not cocky, instead holding pride in others as much as herself, especially Reef.
Something that she keeps secret from everyone, even her brothers, is that she is a singer. She enjoys singing very much, and is quite good at it. With her name being that of the fabled female singers who lured men to their deaths with their songs, it's almost fitting that she can sing as well as she does. Few people have heard her sing, but those who have had either not said anything, or told her it was hauntingly beautiful.I really think I have a problem
I really can't control myself
Why do I get so suspicious?
Do you want someone else?
Cause everybody wants everybody else
Everybody wants everybody else
Everybody wants everybody else
AS THE RAY AND REEF COLLIDE
Siren was the middle child of the family, as well as the only girl. She was born two years after her older brother, Ray, and two years before her younger brother, Reef. As a young girl, she always looked up to her older brother, even though she was determined to make her own mark on the world. Along with Ray and her parents, she always watched the Games. She made a habit of cheering for the District four tributes, especially the girls, and criticized the other District representatives whenever she noticed something the had done wrong. At the age of six and onward, she noticed Reef managed to skip watching the Games almost every time, but never said anything about it. She cared too much for her brother to rat him out to their parents, knowing he would get an earful for his trouble.
At the age of eight, like Ray had done two years before her, she began agility, speed and strength training. It involved running, lifting weights, workouts and other such activities. When she was introduced to swimming as a training technique, she took to it likepardon the pun but,a fish to water. After improving her fitness to a high enough level, she began weapons training. Mostly, she worked with the trident, but she also practiced with spears and knives. She left swords, axes and other weapons of that type alone for the most part, only learning the bare minimum of using them. At times she would even train with a bow, though this was limited. However, she did do more practice with the bow than the various other "non-district" weapons.Long distance

THE SIREN SINGS HER LONELY SONG
Through the whole time, she noticed Reef skipped out on training but like with him not watching the Games she didn't alert her parents. She also noticed that he almost never joined them when they were training in the gym, but she later found out that this was because he was helping their father on his fishing boat. Glad that he had found something he liked, she silently cheered him on to continue to do it, wanting him to stay happy. Unfortunately, he didn't, and he turned his and their whole family's life over when he decided to escape, if you could call it that.
Four months ago, nearly five months after she had turned her current age of sixteen, Reef had gone and done something stupid. He had been found, asleep, beside a murdered Peacekeeper, and was accused of being the killer. He never objected, from what she heard, not that he really would have had a chance nor been listened to anyway. She knew her brother, though, and the thought that he had killed someone didn't sit right with her. It would have been more realistic if Ray had been the one to commit the murder, but she knew that for all he didn't like their younger brother, he never would have framed Reef.
Reef had been taken to the Capitol and made an avox. Siren had lost all hope of ever seeing him again, unless she was entered into the Games and even then she would probably have a female avox to assist her, and not her brother. When she heard the news that her brother had been proven innocent, she was torn by feelings of loss, guilt, relief and even anger. The torrent of emotions had threatened to capsize her, like a tiny wooden boat in the middle of a typhoon, but she had put on her hard-faced mask and toughed it out. When Reef had returned, she had allowed herself one short hug, though she had wanted to hit him and hug him and yell at him and cry over him all at the same time. Now she has beaten back most of her mess of feelings, but she still can't help but feel she lost part of her brother when he had been taken to the Capitol and had his tongue removed. She loves him dearly, still, in spite of everything her parents and older brother had said.Lets talk about the future
