Have you ever walked down the street and seen an upturned face with outstretched, cupped hands, the voice of a troubled soul calling out to your ears that just refuse to listen? You turn away without a second thought, disgust carving your mouth into a thin line, fear etched into the wrinkles between your brows as you think of what you assume their intentions are. If only you knew why they were calling out to you: Not only for the money, but for help.
In the crowded streets of District Three, these poor citizens are seen on every corner, yet no one stops to listen. These dirty, pleading faces are the children who rely on just one cent to spare them from a beating of a man that relies on them for a business. They are the stolen children of grieving families, or the sold "vermin" of a family who would rather a short amount of money than a child. To others, they are disgusting kids who were never taught better, yet their background is far more complex than a family who simply did not teach them manners.
These pleas that District Three hears belong to the children who were either snatched or sold at a young age to a ruthless man, who looks down upon them with a greedy eye; a master who looks down at his slaves and collects his earnings at the end of the day. This man collects children from around the districts and sends them out to the alleys of District Three, believing that pity, thievery, force, and seduction are among the greatest ways to earn money. He has an eye for the children who possess these qualities. Once he spots them... that innocent child becomes a slave to his beatings and cruelty.
If only the citizens of the districts would notice just one of these children, for an outstretched hand could be the savior of a lifetime of pain and suffering. Yet of course, their pleas remain unheard. They have begun to realize that escape may only come in the form of death, or an uprising that would most likely end in more deaths than needed. Hopes are beginning to drop in most of the helpless souls, yet in the closely knit group of servants, there is always a voice that picks the other up and convinces them to look up. Whispers of escaping are spread throughout the group, yet the only problem is finding a way to carry the plans out. It's either death or escape.
CHARACTERS
[/justify]The Mastermind [20's or 30's]
This person is the cold-blooded man who spends his days scouting the districts for his prey, his hands falling upon any innocent child that happens to wander his way. Born into a family where his father was the head of a famous gang, it was either follow in his dad's footsteps or be disowned. As he grew older, his hands already submerged deep into the pit of blood he had drawn from others and the sins he had committed, he grew lazier. Why do all of the work himself, when he could get others to do it for him? That was when he thought of the "brilliant" idea, treating the children he owned the same way his father treated him.Interactions with other characters: Has his eyes constantly on The Seducer, often forcing her to submit to the dishonest cravings that go through his mind. Hates The Negotiator because of the close relationship he hold with her. Plans of killing him have always been on his mind, yet he is just too important. But… everyone’s replaceable, right?
Bio:
The Right-hand man [18-20's]
This man is the one who was hired to keep the children in line. Although second in command, he is still just as cruel and cold-blooded as the one in charge. Formerly a Career from District Two, he was recruited to be in charge of the poor children when suspicion of him being involved in the murder of his parents spread across the District. His strength and his blood-thirsty manner was what got him his job, a job that pays well, yet has a high cost if something should go wrong. Anything that the children do wrong is blamed on him, for he should be the one keeping them in line and training them.
(His history is up to you, for instance, if he was actually involved in the murder or not. It would be quite interesting if he had been lying to his "Boss" the entire time. His personality is also up to you, but seriously, would he really be a man who loved children and people and wished for world peace? No.)Interactions with other characters: Longs to become the only one in charge, yet that means taking out the Mastermind. Plots have been springing into his head since the day he was hired, it’s just the matter of timing the fatal event. He also has a strange addiction to The Young Mother, who he has already raped before. Thoughts have been on his sadistic mind of striking again.
Bio:
The Seducer [18] [reserved for Piper]
The Seducer was born in the poor District of 12, where she lived with her father and two brothers. Food and money were immensely hard to come by, so her father resorted to selling one of his children to a man who just so happened to be staying in District 12 for a while. The man chose her. A beautiful young girl would earn him buckets of money in the future. She was sold at the young age of four. The Seducer is considered the star of the group, the master's most prized possession, as if she were a golden trophy sitting on his shelf. She is the girl who stands at the entrance of the alleys, her gaze drawing men to her like moths being attracted to the only light in a dark room. By the end of the night, she has enough money to maybe even spare some of the other children who had not earned enough. She is also the mother of the group, looking after them as if they were her own, refusing to escape without them, no matter how much her long-time friend convinces her to run with him.Interactions with other characters: Gives into anything The Mastermind tells her or forces her to do, but only to protect The Negotiator. She helps him by making The Mastermind think that she truly loves him, and not the boy she has been with since she was four. She is soon realizing, though, that escape may be the only true way to save him.
Bio:
The "Negotiator" [18]
The Negotiator has been a part of the group since he was four, he and The Seducer, being the veterans, have stuck with each other since the very beginning, their relationship growing into a state where separation would send them on the verge of insanity among all of the hardships they face. He is the one who is sent to the gangs and men who have agreed to make deals with their master, the meetings often ending with the point of a gun pressed to their heads. Many deaths have been at the hands of The Negotiator, though he is far from a blood-thirsty killer. There is the possibility of him being “moved to a different District”, though. He refuses to leave without his love and the children, though, for he is the one who protects them. Basically the father figure of the group.
(You can expand more on the personality, and the history between him and The Seducer. I'm hoping that this could progress into a big plot where he refuses to leave her, yet staying would cause great harm to him and everyone.)Interactions with other characters:Has a strong connection with The Seducer that seems to always make him think of saving her from the danger she is in every waking hour. He knows of the things he makes her do, and has been suspecting that plans of his own demise have already been plotted. It’s either escape or kill the man that he hates with every fiber of his being.
Bio:
The Thief [16]
She was kidnapped at the age of ten from District One, where she was seen stealing from a store. With her silent and agile talent comes a spunky and rebellious attitude, though. She is often beaten for her refusing to cooperate, sometimes to the point where sitting up is nearly impossible, but she refuses to break. She does things when she wants to, and for no other reason.
(Once again, you can definitely expand on the personality/history. Make it more interesting than my poor explanation)Interactions With Other Characters: Despite her rebellious and badass attitude, she has a soft side when it comes to The Young Mother. She feels protective for her and the baby, seeming to be glued to her side at all times, yet conscious of the fears The Young Mother possesses, being careful not to make her uncomfortable. It's as if she has developed feelings for the girl... but no. She can't feel that way about her! Can she?
Bio:
The Young Mother [15]
This girl used to belong to an orphanage in District Twelve, until she ran away and happened to stumble across The Right Hand Man's path at the age of fourteen. He was drunk. She was immediately snatched up and raped by the evil man, where she wasn't even left to die. After the traumatic experience, she was thrown into the group, where she had her baby. The baby instantly became a part of the group, for a young, poor mother would earn more pity and money from strangers. She's the one on the dark streets with the baby cradled weakly in her bruised arms, begging for your attention and generosity. She is easily the quietest and most troubled of the group, her hard past never seeming to escape her. She now has known fears of men and any physical contact from boys.Interactions With Other Characters: She has a deeply rooted fear of The Right-Hand Man, and for good reasons. Yet she is beginning to notice how close he always seems to be, a ruthless stare trained on her at all times that makes a shiver run through her brittle bones. If only she had the courage to speak up. But of course, her voice comes in the form of The Thief, who lashes out without thinking. The Thief is the only one she is ever seen talking to, yet even then it's a few words that are barely audible. The spunky girl, despite being her polar opposite, seems to be the only one who understands.
Bio:
The Blind Singer [11-13]
This young boy went through a horrible and gruesome experience. At the small age of four, he was sold from a poor family in District Eleven to the two men. As they tried to decide what he could do to get more money, they instantly thought of blinding him. Unfortunately, blind children were more sympathetic and collected more money from begging than others. He was mercilessly blinded by the two and was forced to sing, despite his lack of talent. He is easily the one who gets beaten and punished the most, for despite his incapability, he often does not have enough money to bring back. Although he has been through much, he is the nicest of the group, his innocence causing him to always try and find good in others. Has a vivid imagination and a large amount of curiosity. Like any young child, he still does not fully understand what is happening.
Unlike the others, though, loneliness does not find him. He has a friend that only he can hear, one that comes in the form of a past memory that only he recalls. He is often seen talking to this friend (the air), yet nothing is said to him to tell him otherwise. Why destroy a happiness that is so rare in such a damaged group?Interactions With Other Characters: He seems to be the “child” of The Seducer, being the one she looks out for the most. Of course, he has an immensely close relationship with his friend.
Bio:
This plot is still a WIP, and I don't even know if it'll work out as I want it too. I know my explanations for the characters aren't that great, but you can expand on them and make them much better then they seem.
