Patrick Wolfgang Morrison
Nickname: Trick
Age: 17
Gender: Male
District: 1
Parents: Remington and Martha Morrison
Significant Other: Serena Crane
Portrayed By: James Roday
Appearance:
With his dyed chocolate hair (formerly light blonde), piercing cobalt eyes, expensive designer stubble and natural smirk, Patrick completely epitomises the phrase “plastically handsome”. Morrison is always keen to assure that his hair is deftly parted and combed to the right, and that there are no visible creases in his attire, generally consisting of a woollen stone-grey coat concealing a black suit with a light blue shirt, red suspenders and a red tie. Always dressed immaculately, it is this all-consuming desire for perfection which best underscores his overall superficiality as a person.
Standing at roughly 6 foot 2 inches, with a fairly well-developed muscle tone, obtained through his ritualistic daily workouts, Patrick certainly appears imposing but, chiefly due to his boyish good-looks and smooth, well-looked after skin, people generally wrongly assume him to be somewhat naive and ignorant. Though he is ostensibly representative of his spoiled upbringing and shallow nature, should anyone care to observe, his posture and walk betrays a far angrier, sadistic nature.
Personality:
Beautiful, arrogant, superficial, narcissistic, self-obsessed, shallow, isolated, intense and sadistic: terms which accurately describe aspects of Morrison’s multi-faceted, although apparently nonexistent personality. Obsessed with the notion of being perfect, and adored for it, Morrison can be the warmest, most friendly individual in existence, and is determined to make even the most stoic of people come out of their proverbial “shell” and love him, as he loves himself. That’s all part of his game though, to manipulate people and their emotions, bringing them closer as he remains ever distant, flashing a fake smile and dead eyes as they become hooked, and it brings him such astonishing release.
An avid reader of the newspaper’s “Style section”, and a lover of the beautiful products his District produces, ‘Trick is undoubtedly the perfect representation of what it means to be a denizen of District 1, or at least he thinks so, and will tell you so too. Though egotistical and self-aggrandising of him, in many ways he is absolutely right, like so many others he has been poisoned by the propaganda he is constantly subjected to, as well as the general District 1 lifestyle, and now lives life in pursuit of said lifestyle, to the point where “The Hunger Games” has become something of a distant thought which no longer concerns him as, should he get reaped, he expects someone to volunteer for him anyway.
While he has attended some training sessions, particularly loving the personal nature of working with knives, not to mention the ability to mutilate (fuelling his sadism), he honestly feels he doesn’t need it. Clearly self-perception is everything to Morrison; it is the magic which allows him to maintain such a massive sense of superiority, even in the face of how others would see him as being annoying or even downright goofy. Avoiding reality like the plague, he may be unable to recognise this, but nonetheless can see the results of it, as Morrison is a highly isolated, lonely and distant person.
History:
From the very moment he was born, Patrick wanted for nothing. Everything he could ever ask for was in his reach, whether it was luxurious clothing, shiny new cars, or women; everything he ever desired belonged to him, this still holds true today. Patrick was lucky enough to be born into wealth, as both of his parents specialise in the buying and trading of stocks, something that members of the outline districts would consider more of an expensive hobby for the rich in their own private fiefdoms, as opposed to an actual career or life choice, an analysis which Morrison somewhat agrees with. His career aspirations, or lack thereof, creates some tension in the house, as his father wants Patrick to essentially turn into a younger version of himself. Needless to say, Patrick wants nothing to do with his parents or investment banking.Codeword:
Living life based around the philosophy that “life should be fun” and he should just "go with the flow", Morrison spends most of his time indulging himself; living a completely superficial and unfulfilling existence where he acts like the selfish, sarcastic playboy he truly is. He can be seen either lounging around his million dollar mansion enjoying his own company and a cup of black coffee, or arrogantly parading around the district in search of the next big waste of money, since he has nothing better to do. Because of his parent’s incredible wealth, his life has been relatively easy; well, as easy as he decides, anyway. In an attempt to make his life interesting, Patrick creates his own problems so that he can find some enjoyment to briefly escape the mundane life he leads. One of his fondest examples of this would be how he, as a sixteen year old boy filled with testosterone and boredom, stole a neighbour’s cat, then proceeded to shave it and spray paint its skin hot pink. Several days later, he returned it, claiming that it visited the capitol and paid for its transformation by itself.
Patrick grew up an isolated, lonely life, but that’s cushioned by the security his parent’s incomes provide. Martha and Remington haven’t always been the best parents to him, especially when he went through his adolescence and needed his parents love and support the most. Their cold and distant relationship, already in place by his first birthday, is the cause of Patrick’s need to remain emotionally withdrawn and distant from them. It is almost like a contractual agreement between them stating: “Do not bother us with your trivialities. If you need money, just take it”, being the sole extent of the Morrison’s familial relationship. Undoubtedly an abandoned soul, perhaps there is more to Patrick than there appears, maybe there is a very real side of him which longs for a life and love, but he is determined to make sure it stays completely hidden.
