Welcome to the Beach Volleyball event of the very first Panem Olympic Games! The court is located on the beach in District Four, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the court, and remember, make your district proud!

(I'm changing the way beach volleyball works so it's a bit more exciting) Beach volleyball is a tournament, following a bracket. Each player has been assigned a team and a round one match. In THIS THREAD, everyone involved in this tournament should post the following dice code THREE TIMES after roleplaying their character's preparation and start of the match: [*dice=7] without the asterisk. Once everyone involved in your match has done so (i.e., all four players) your points and your teammate's points will be added up for each set, and the team with the highest score wins that set. That score will be the number of points MORE you scored than your opponent in that set. Whoever wins the majority of the three sets wins the match Please remember, beach volleyball goes to 21 points. (We're pretending that the final set goes to 21 as well, and not 15)

Here's an example:

Teams: Doe/Sue vs. Stu/Smith

Set 1:
Doe rolls a 4
Sue rolls a 6
Stu rolls a 7
Smith rolls a 1
The team of Doe/Sue has a higher added score, so they win the set by their total, 10 points, meaning the score was 21-11. This process will repeat for the following two sets. If Doe/Sue win another set, then they have won the majority and the match. However, if Stu/Smith win the next two, they win the match.

ALL beach volleyball players should post their rolls in this thread: there will not be separate threads for each match. After it is determined who wins the match, then feel free to edit your post roleplaying out the match and winning/losing if you wish.

Volleyball. Well- beach volleyball. Pretty much the same thing, right? I was paired up with a Moreno, go firgure. On top of that, we were against another set of District 1's. We didn't even get to face another District! Though I was dissapointed, I was excited anyways.

I did pretty well, enough to satisfy me. I bet I could've showed up most of the people here. I got a pretty good score and the crowd seemed satisfied as well. The warmth of the sand was rather rewarding.[rand=47999298506894521728640811583228347852256377258513817946559630034]

Finally, it was time for Beach Volleyball. She had been looking forward to this event the most, as it would be the most fun aside from the Gymnastics. The bronze medal that lay in her gym bag glinted in encouragement as she grabbed her visor and put it on. Her hair way tied up, but only so it wouldn't get in the way as she went after the ball. Normally she would never put it up, but this was the one exception she would make. She turned and walked onto the sand, standing to face the pair on the other side before turning to give a smile to her partner. She was ready for this match, or so she hoped, but she wouldn't know if she was good enough for it until it started.

She had no time to worry, as the whistle blew and a call of "Service!" floated over the two teams. Here we go!

I'd almost forgotten that I had signed up for volleyball. I did, after all, have a rather busy schedule to keep. Three swordplay events, the sprint relay, and of course, making sure all my siblings were well looked after'. By which I meant reminded that I still knew exactly how to push them over the edge. And with all the District Two bunch around, all it would take is a knife in the back, and some planted finger prints. I smirk at the thought, even as I readjust the somewhat skimpy shorts that my volleyball coach had picked out for me. Said it would 'improve viewer ratings'. Explained that it meant that people would remember me. Like I need help with that. The purple hair not enough for them?

Anyways, here I was, on the beach court, sand nestling between my toes as I glared at my opponents, siblings from my own District, who like the girl stood next to me, I didn't know the name of. How I wished I could have Eris here as my partner. Though perhaps it was a good thing that she hadn't signed up. If either had let the other down, there would be hell to pay. Probably right there and then on the court. With someone I don't know? Not as much family reputation to uphold. I only have to focus on my own game...

... My first set is somewhat lacklustre, steady, but no plays worthy of note, though my partners, Ms Rose, is similarly average, though marginally better than me. Nothing to be ashamed of, but nothing to write home about. My second set is a complete shocker, fumbling with the combined tiredness of all my other events coming to slap me in the face, but thankfully, Ms Rose keeps us together. I begrudgingly admit, she is a far superior volleyball player than I. And likely as not, much less tired.

Our third and final set is an absolute blinder. As per, she outstrips me completely. Clearly I'm the one making up the numbers in this duet. But we're both all over the court, she barely misses anything, and each play is a magnificent one, I myself make some astounding shots, and a couple of blocks, despite a few plays going awry. I feel I've made up for my relatively bleak second set performance. Hopefully, it's enough. My siblings would never let me live it down if I caused us to drop out of the medals in an event immediately. So I'd just have to make sure that they don't live to regret their reminders...

Her hands ached from the hours she had spent during the morning in preparation. Rowan stepped onto the hot sand still burning from the summer sun. Surely hours on hours of practice would pay off if her and her partner, Villain, were fighting a team from District One. They had the home court advantage; it wasn’t like they had beaches in their home District. Her eyebrows furrowed as she looked out to the court and back to her coach. She stood there waiting for the clear to go.

“Think we can do this?” She gave Villain a forced supercilious smile before walking on the sand after hearing the names and districts. The crowd was full of mainly District Four citizens but she knew from clothing colors that some came from 1 & 2. No sign of her dad from where she stood, but it was a big crowd and she wasn’t completely sure he’d show up in the first place. She blocked out the noise of the crowds and waited to start the match. Rowan traded a quick glance at Villain and the game started.

There was something about the feeling of sand between his toes that Villain just found appealing. He knew that if he were native to any other district besides Four that he'd hate the stuff. If he hadn't grown up around it, Villain would hate the way that it clung to everything, finding and irritating every crevice on the body, he'd hate the uncertainty it cast on every step, sinking and shifting and changing before and during and after every footfall. But he was from District Four, and his dads had practically raised him on the beach.

Like the swimming event, Beach Volleyball was a competition that he'd expected his district to sweep. It wasn't so much the sport — though he knew it would be considerably harder to start a pickup game of volleyball without oars and fishing nets strewn about half the district — as it was the terrain, which played so much in the favor of Villain and his partner, Rowan. One needed only to point at the previous Games, to compare how easily Ripley and Libertine danced about on the sand while all of their opponents tripped and stumbled and fell seemingly of their own accord.

Rowan grinned at him, asked if he thought they could dominate their match; he replied with the obligingly arrogant smirk of his own. "Of course we can."

My last event, the beach volley ball, is just for fun, really. A last something to add to a successful, enjoyable couple of weeks. Not only have I don't enough to make Ellis proud of her daddy, but perhaps I have redeemed myself in my father's eyes a little. No, I think I've gone too far for that, but at least I'm proud of myself. You know, I've sort of done ok.

I've already taken gold in diving, but I'm not so sure about volleyball. I'm just glad that Brig is with me. We're on the same team, so I think we may have a chance. The sand feels weird beneath my feet and I think it makes me a bit sluggish, but it's kinda..... neat. It's an odd sensation. I can feel all the grains beneath my feet and between my toes, and I like it. Why can't we have sand at home?

A bronze f-cking medal. BRONZE. After the fit I'd thrown in the diving area I needed something to take out my agression on and since boxing hadn't started yet at least I could hit a ball.

Thank god they stuck me with someone I sort of remember from training, maybe he watched me beat in Trainer Matt's face a couple times?, either way he looked strong enough and agile. We square up against the other team from D4, as looked over at him, "You f-ck this up from me and these won't be the only balls I'm hitting." I growled.
