Kody Avius - District 6 [DONE]

KODY AVIUS



It's hard to believe that he's only eighteen, not with the way he drinks. The way he always manages to fetch the girls also distracts from his relative young age. In his last year of being reapable age, Kody Avius wants to live his life in District six with style, something he's become quite good at.

Kody sat down on the avenue
He tapped his feet, to the humming of the highway

TO THE BOTTLE I GO

He's no wonder of the world, no perfect sculpture or male Mona Lisa, but he can sure attract the girls. Gifted with whatever good looking genes both his father and his mother had had, he's not perfect but for what he lacks in appearance he makes up in confidence. Or so he thinks. Those who don't like him will say just a many things negative about his appearance as others will say positive.

Like his hair, ranging from a rich brown to a near-black and holding the slightest wave to it. It's often ruffled, as much from the lack of effort put to combing it in the morning as the occasional movement of running his fingers through it. Some say the lack of neatness is cute, sexy even, adding a touch of no-care attitude to him. Others whisper that it's so messy a rat could live in it comfortably. Neither is really true, but it works for him so he doesn't bother to change it. His hair is fine however it sits, and even if it wasn't he wouldn't have enough of a care to fix it.

And his eyes, some describing them as a brilliant green, like spring leaves or fresh grass. In reverse, they say they're dull and hold a lack of interest in much. In truth, he has only held interest in girls for the enjoyment of their bodies, not in a way that would sharpen the colour of his eyes, or flush red into his cheeks. The eyebrows that sit above his green gaze are slightly bushy, but look almost like a broken line having an angle change their direction rather than a sweeping curve.

His nose is almost small for his face, though if it had been bigger, he might not be able to pull off the same style as he does now. But either way, it was just another thing he wouldn't bother to fix, even if he could. It worked for him, and that's what mattered. His mouth is a good size for his face, and he was gifted with good teeth. The lips that cover them are a pale pink, though in the shade most of their pink colour is sucked from them replaced by the same colour as the rest of his skin. His top lip is thin, while his lower lip is of average size.

His neck is long, and flows smoothly into his relatively thin shoulders. For his height, he is quite thin, in stature as well as weight. Holding a height of 6', a decent height but not the tallest of guys out there, he is skinny. Weighing at a mere 130lbs, his drinking has caused him not to put on the muscle or weight that is required to be healthy. Then again, who could be healthy with such a reliance on the bottle? His arms, a little short for his body, are not all skin and bone, but the muscles on them are not very well developed. Admittedly, he can carry a decent amount, but it's not like what he should or could be able to.

His hands have large palms and average-length fingers. On someone else's hand, they might be long, but with his large palms they look shorter than they are. His torso isn't well-muscled like some of the Career boys, but almost scrawny. With his overly-light weight, he looks weedy. In truth, he is, but not to the extent that it seems. His legs, thin and relatively long, continue the wispy appearance.

The clothes that he wears are quite plain, generally black or gray in colour, thought at times he may wear blue or green. On the rarest occasions, red or orange might be in his wardrobe. But as his mother's favorite colour, it was hard for him to wear it. The blue or green clothing that he sometimes wore always brought out the colour of his eyes, in a way that the black didn't. He only has two types of shirts, t-shirts, which were the more common of the two when it came to what he wore, and formal button-ups. He only had two of the latter, a pale blue one and a pale green one. The only time he ever wore one of those was to go to a more formal party, or if he was going to visit his mother's grave. She had always told him that he looked sharp in them, and he wanted to look his best for her.

His only types of pants are jeans, and he very rarely ever wears shorts, being too skinny to look good in them. Of course, no girl mentions his slight frame while in bed with him, so he doesn't care enough to change it. Perhaps if he slowed on the alcohol a bit he might put on a healthy weight, so he wouldn't have to cover himself up as much, but there wasn't enough will in him to change. He has three different pairs of shoes, to fit with whatever style he's going for at the time. The ones he wears the most are his black casual-runners, and they go well with whatever he wears. The other pair of shoes he has are black skater shoes with white accents on the sides, designed more for fancier occasions since he didn't like dress shoes. His final pair of footwear are his his boots, sturdy and black seeing a pattern?, they are for when he wants to seem tougher as though they give the sense that he works with heavy machinery or even cable, neither of which are true.

RAIN MAY FALL AND WIND MAY BLOW,

He's not your typical eighteen year old, if anyone could be called 'typical'. Some people can be overheard saying that he's one messed up kid, their voices a mix of pity and disgust. With the history he had, it's not surprising that he ended up this way. He can be from insensitive to intoxicated, and anywhere in between. His shifts in mood are not erratic, and usually follow the normal, if such a thing could be found, pattern of behavior, but there are times when he can change from humorous and sweet to cold and rude for no apparent reason. Often these shifts are triggered by three things, memories of his mother, thoughts of his father, or apparent withdrawl from alcohol.

While not an alcoholic, like his father, Kody does drink a lot. At times he can seem to go through withdrawal, especially after drinking heavily for a few days in a row. Since he mostly abstains from doing so, he sees his drinking habit as no harm to himself. Perhaps it will take the death of his father to realize that smoking isn't the only killer. Something inside him relies too much on the effects of alcohol, and it's hard for him to go without it for longer than a couple days. Perhaps the memories of his mother become too much without its influence, or maybe he can't stand the way his mind works without it. It's impossible to know, since he himself has no idea.

One thing that he has assured himself, no matter how drunk, he will never do is smoke. The memories of his mother's death at the hand of cigarettes, and alcohol, but shush he doesn't know, will never allow him to. He doesn't want to end up dying like she did, and would rather that if he was to die it would be because of either the Games, which he is almost free of, or some more natural reason. The idea that he could always die from a knife in the chest or a bullet to the head was there, but he refused to acknowledge them, if the situation arose he would deal with it then.

AND MANY MILES BE STILL TO GO

He constantly tells his father to quit smoking, but is usually met with a retort about stopping breathing or stopping drinking. Eventually, he gave up, but when he could he would steal his father's cigarettes and sell them. At least the money would be helpful, and it was a small attempt to save his father from the same fate as his mother. Sometimes, when he is sober, Kody might think that perhaps his father doesn't care if he dies, since his wife is dead. It's thoughts like those that drive him to keep from being sober. He couldn't bear the thought of not having his father around.

One thing he will not admit to anyone, aside from the still-painful thoughts of his mother, is that he had been attracted to guys before. It was hard for him to even admit to himself, letting himself realize that his attraction was not just for girls. However, it happens only rarely and is quite a bit weaker than his pull toward girls. With guys, he may admire their build, but there is more thoughts of finding a friend-like partner in them than with the girls. Girls usually bring him a rush, and he is easily able to push away thoughts of guys when he remembers how he feels when he's under the covers with a girl. It's hard for him to resist a girl, but guys are easy. For now.

BUT UNDER A TALL TREE I WILL LIE,

He wasn't born to be the screw up he is now. There was nothing in his DNA that drove him to throw caution and logic to the wind and think he was living life to the fullest with a beer in his hand and a girl on him his lap. Unless you count that all of his problems relate to his father. After all, where do the screwed up kids come from? That's right, screwed up parents. Mr and Mrs Avius were a wonderful couple, wonderful in the fact that they loved each other, but all of their other practices weren't exactly gold-star worthy. When they learned Mrs Avius was pregnant, they didn't even try to change their ways. Though she was with-child, Mrs Avius still smoked, and she still drank. It was only luck that Kody was perfectly healthy. Well, physically at least. But again, it wasn't his time in the womb that made him the person he is, it was his time in the Avius house, which continues into his present life.

As a young child, Kody was always around cigarettes and alcohol. He probably ingested as much of both from breathing as his parents did from smoking or drinking. He never knew how bad it was, and because it didn't seem to do anything, he didn't care. So, he spent the next few years living like that, not knowing what the cost of life like that was, until it came and slammed down in front of him like one of his father's drinks.

Over the years, his mother became sickly. She paled in colour, though her nails had become yellowed as had her teeth. She seemed to shrink in from of him, but he never attributed this to the taxing and toxic lifestyle that the Avius family lived by. Eventually, it became so bad that even his father saw they had to take her to the hospital. They did, having the doctor look over her before giving them a sorry smile. He told them that she was very sick, and he had found a tumor in her left lung, and the other lung had become so shriveled that it was near useless. Kody was horrified, his mother had cancer.

At the age of twelve, he had to watch as his mother slowly died. It wasn't until she had finally passed away that he found out why. All of the smoking she did, which she had started when she was a young teenager, had rotted her lungs. From then on, he decided that smoking was something he would never do. For all his mother had her flaws, she had still been better than his father and now she was gone. It just didn't seem right to him, and he didn't want to die for the same reason.

Shortly after this, his father began to drink more, usually spending more hours in the day drunk than sober. As a lone parent, especially to a boy who was still quite young, he should have known better. But that was the problem with the Avius, they were quite self-indulgent and didn't pay much attention to others, even if they were related. He at least kept from dragging home girls until over a year had passed, something that he thought was as taxing as it was incredibly generous. His son would learn how to move on, and his wife had been given a year of mourning before he had done so.

Thirteen years of age was not old enough to hear his father sharing intimacy with some random woman, but he had practically been forced to. It wasn't as though the house was very soundproof, and the bedrooms were opposite of each other in the small hallway. He began to wonder what it was like, and why his father seemed to enjoy it so much. After some months, he began to press his ear to the door while it happened, listening and trying to imagine what was going on. For the life of him, he just couldn't figure it out. So he decided to give it a try.

He was fourteen before he got his chance, and had gone through enough of puberty to look more like a man and less like a boy. His father had brought home two girls that night, as though knowing that his son was waiting for his turn. One was closer to his father's age, while the other was only a few years older than him. It was obvious that they had both been paid for that night, but Kody had ignored that instead being amazed that a girl who was so much older than him had started to come onto him, as he had come onto her. It took only about fifteen minutes before they went into his room, though the actual act took longer because he was so unsure.

After that, he would look for any opportunity to bring home a girl, like his father did, often getting him to have one of the younger 'call girls' come along with whoever he had asked for that night. While some may have seen him as a little young, Kody saw himself as being fast out of the gate, as did his father. Because of his confidence, he easily began to pick up girls, often having a different girlfriend every other week. Sometimes he even had more than one at a time. Other times, he would just spend one night with a girl before moving onto the next.

He learned that there was only two ways to quell his mind, and the vicious memories of his mother's death. Alcohol, and sex. Half of the time he opted for one, and half of the time he chose the other. His eyes had fallen on a couple guys, but he has never had the same wish for them as for girls, the longing, the addiction. Perhaps when he settles some, he might learn more about himself, but for now he lives the life he had been branded into.
