I sit in my little brother's bedroom. He won't let go of me for dear life. Compergo has tears streaming from his eyes. "No," he sobs, "Microloe, don't go. Please, don't leave me." I try to comfort him, but it seems that his arms are attached to my hand, holding me back. I can't seem to wiggle free.
I told him about the fact that me and Yael were going to run away from District 3. And he did not respond happily. Now, here I am, with him clamped on to me. "Comper," I say calmly, "It's ok. I'll be fine, so will you. You're not going to be alone, I'm not going to be gone forever." His grip loosens a bit, but not enough for me to get away from it entirely.
He hugs me tightly and finally says, "Ok, I hope you get where you want to go. I'll miss you so much." And he lets go. I say, "I'll be right back." Then I head over to my room. I walk to my closet and grab all of my favorite clothes: three t-shirts, which are yellow, green, and red, two pairs of navy blue shorts, a two pairs of jeans, a pair of hiking boots, two pairs of running shoes, and a black leather jacket. And I stuff it all in a big messanger bag that I sling across my chest and over my shoulders.
I reach over on to my desk and grab all of my wires. Then I stick them in a backpack. I grab a knife that is was laying next to them and stuff it in as well. There's a box of matches in a compartment in my desk. It is soon in the backpack too. Several bottles of water, six rabbits and a turkey, a length of rope, and a sack of money from my work all go into it with the other items.
I give Compergo one last hug and say goodbye. Then I walk out the door with the backpack and messanger bag on my shoulders. A cool breeze ruffles my red-brown hair playfully. I smile, it's a beautiful day, aside from the normal pollution of District 3. The sun is peeking through the clouds and thick air. I stride in the direction of the television factory I work at.
Then I head to the back of the factory. Yael is supposed to meet me here. I'm quite excited for all this. I set my backpack on the ground. A few seconds later the messanger bag is next to it. I sit down and patiently wait for the girl to come. When she does, we will go through the fence, into the forest.
