Arizona walks out of the woods into the district, but doesn't walk any further. Deciding to instead stop and sit, leaning on the tree. She sighs and looks around, straight faced. Arizona, why sitting? There are herbs to be collected She groans and looks at her small basket of herbs. Why did she do this again? She rests her head on the tree she was sat by and sighs, closing her eyes lightly.

With a half glance up she straightens her orange top and looks up properly. Hey! Look! It's a bunny shaped cloud. She then facepalms and sighs, why did she always do that? Arizona shakes her head and breathes in deeply, the aromatic air being taken in by the 16 year old.

As a wind blows her black hair into her dark green eyes she frowns and pushes it behind her ears with a partial tug to try to make it stay. It annoyed her a bit. She focuses on her pile of herbs again and shakes her head, she could be so boring sometimes.

With a slight sigh she picks up one of the herbs and sniffs it randomly. Then upon placing it back down, she closes her eyes, just listening to the different sounds. If anyone was to come now, she'd probably hear them. If paying enough attention.

October Euell

A ghost is someone who hasn't made it,
in other words, who died, and don't know it yet.

Marchello told me to go to the herbs, and pick as many berries as I could. "But, why do we need berries?" I would say. "I just need someone to keep you distracted, and away from me." Marchello would say in a harsh tone. I decided not to push him any farther, because I did not want Marchello to get furious at me, and be farther apart from me than he already is. I stepped out of the tiny house that I share with 11 other brothers and sisters, who weren't really my brothers or sisters, but they were the only family I had. I wasn't really sure where the herbs were located, but I would just look around for bushes with berries in them. I finally found this whole garden of herbs, and it seemed like it wasn't owned by anyone, because I saw a few faces wondering around the bushes, taking berries as they pleased.

I knew it was most likely illegal to be out here in the forest, but there were more then just me out here, so I felt safe. If the peacekeepers came, they couldn't catch me, because I am naturally faster then them. I would notice 3 faces around me. 2 men who looked like complete buffoons, and a stunning young woman with chocolate brown curls. Oh god, how good looking she was. I felt slightly aroused by her, but I had to get to the job at hand. I wasn't sure what berries to get for Marchello, since he was never specific on what type, so I decided to get a variety of berries. I would be amazed at how many berries are out here, because I couldn't identify a good majority of them. In the end, I gathered up Blackberries, Strawberries, Boisenberries, and Loganberries. I had a lot of other ones, but those were just ones that looked interesting to me.

It would take me a while to get all the berries into 1 basket, but It was worth not getting chewed out my Marchello when I got back home. He just stood there for a while, until he noticed the girl with the chocolate colored hair. I started to get nervous, because I never felt comfortable around girls older than me. I could feel my palms getting sweaty, but I would smile at the girl because she started to randomly sniff her basket of herbs. I finally got the guts to talk to the girl. She seemed like such a nice girl, even though I knew I didn't have a chance, because she looked a year or two older than me. Before I went over to her, I took a deep breathe, and got relaxed. I started to walk over there, but then a few things started to go through my mind. What if she looks at me like I am just a child? What if she thinks I am just a slum that has never got anywhere in life? What if she DISLIKES me? I would finally manage to walk over to the girl, and with a nervous smile say.. "Hi.. I saw you, and I just wanted to get to know you... I'm October."

Arizona opens her eyes again as she hears bushes and then half glares at the boy. Not threatening as much as scrutinizing. She relaxes upon realising he was younger than her. Oh, cute. She started at that point trying to calculate how much protection he'd need if he was ever entered in the games. She guessed he'd prepare with one weapon, or first aid. She smiles slightly and her thoughts start taunting her Oh, he's younger Ari. Try imagining his death. Speared. Or something. Arizona visibly flinches before snapping out of it. "Hello October. Nice to meet you. I'm Arizona." She replies. Arizona was more trusting around younger people.

She scans the boy and pats the spot next to her, "Don't bother panicking about peacekeepers. I've never seen them around here." She says quietly. Placing her head back on the tree she looks at October and picks up her basket, putting it in her lap. Her hair stays behind her ears as she watches October. October... October... Hmm. What an unusual name. It's lovely. It's unique. EEK ... SQUIRREL! Arizona squeaks as she spots the squirrel and starts glaring at it. She hated the things. She looks back at October and trying to ignore the animal's presence she asks, "What do you think of Squirrels?" She then looks up quickly. "Oh look, a cloud shaped like a duck!" She sighs and frowns, nope, not a duck. Maybe if you looked at it. Upside down. While Squinting. With a blindfold on...

She looks at October, blushing a bit because of embarrassment and she laughs uneasily. Now you've done it Arizona, no one wants to be friends with a freak. Stop being so weird. Arizona smiles at him as best she could and groans inwardly. She was sure he'd think she had a mental issue or something. She looks up at the clouds and then screams quickly as the squirrel jumps in her basket. She freezes and gulps, then looks at October as she tenses. "S-So... What do you want to t-talk about." she stutters each time the squirrel moves.

She screams as the squirrel jumps onto her lap from the basket and looks at October helplessly. "H-Help me-e. Ple-ease." She whispers and flinches as the squirrel sits there watching her with evil beady eyes that hold death threats and torturous thoughts. You're imagining things Ari. Stupid girl. She whimpers at her thoughts and looks at October helplessly again.

The girl would tell me her name, Arizona. What a unique name, Arizona is. Arizonas name would float around in my head, making me curious of where it must of came from. Then she would bring up peacekeepers, which I knew were most likely not coming out here already. "Thanks for the warning, I never really thought about the peacekeepers." A lot of things would be going through my mind at that point. Maybe I do have a chance with her... she doesn't seem that crazy, so we could be a perfect ma-... At that moment, I would hear a scream from Arizona, and her high-pitched scream made me jump also. I would look to the source of the scream, and It would be a harmless little squirrel. Then, out of irony, Arizona would ask me what I think of squirrel. I was never a big fan of animals, only when they were on a platter and I was feasting on them, but that would be a horrible response to tell her. I would go with the typical response, and say.. "Well, Squirrel are cute little things, but they tend to get very annoying at times."

She seemed a little crazier then I thought when she brought up that a cloud was shaped like a duck. Well, shes is pretty much as crazy as me, since I make costumes and run around scaring people in them.. I stood there for a while, admiring Arizonas outstanding outfit. When she brought up something to talk about, I decided to touch on what was most important to me, my family. "Well, we could talk about my family, and how weird, but unique they are, if you want to." I would hear another high pitched scream, which could only belong to Arizona. I could not believe how scared she was of a Squirrel, not even bigger then her basket. "Here, let me help you with that." I did not want to hurt the squirrel, because that may switch Arizona to the mode where she feels bad for the squirrel, so I just shooed my hands to the squirrel, and luckily, he responded to that, and scurried off. I felt gratitude every time she would look into my eyes for help. "Well, now that that is over, would you like to talk about family, or something of the sort?"

Arizona looks at October laughing uneasily as the squirrel runs off. She smiles at him and looks up. "Lets talk about your--" She trails off with a high pitched squeak and blinks. Going paler than she usually is, she looks at the cloud that was shaped like a squirrel, finding her eyes glued to it. She shrinks into the tree before squeaking as the 'squirrel seems to move and tearing her eyes off of it to look at October again. Focus on your new friend Ari. Before the squirrel gets you. The squirrel won't get you if you focus on October. Arizona laughs uneasily and continues, "Your family. It sounds like a safe topic..."

Arizona smiles as she tries not to look at the squirrel cloud again. She looks into her basket of herbs and smiles. She hoped she could get to know October, he seemed nice. Although, if she did get to know him, she'd have to be careful. Careful not to become too protective over him. It made her clingy and odd to be honest. The girl smiles as she thinks to herself. He is nice. He seems to be genuine and he helped you be rid of that monstrous creature. Trust him Arizona. Trust him. She sighs at her thoughts and agrees.

Arizona watches October and picks out some of the edible herbs she found. Not all plants she picked were for medicinal purposes. She offers October one and smiles. "It's edible. If you want to try?" she whispers and flashes him a slight grin. She was a bit nervous as to his opinion of her, but it didn't matter. Did it? Why did she care so much?

I slightly regretted bringing up the topic of family. I could never put in words what my family actually was. I never had real parents, honestly, since they just abandoned me like I was a piece of trash on the streets. The only real family I had were the 11 siblings I left at my house to get the berries for. They may not be my blood-related siblings, but they were more then I have had ever in my lifetime. I was the closest to Aibrean, so I decided to bring her up, and leave the rest of my "siblings" for her to find out. "I have a pretty large family of 11, but I am the closest to one of them, which I look at as my sister. Her name is Aibrean." I stopped there, leaving her curious on my other siblings.

Noticing she is stuttering, most likely because of the squirrel, I lifted my body up from the bench, and stomped in front of the squirrel, and he would scurry off, being very scared. Walking back over to Arizona, I would look at her brown curls, and how much I just wanted to feel them. She would ask what to talk about, even though I thought we already decided to talk about family. "So, what is your family like?"

Arizona looks at October, nodding slightly when she deemed it appropriate. She was calmer once the squirrel left. When he asks her the question she sighs a bit. What is my family like? Well I guess... [/i] "They are pretty nice. However they expect too much. I'm me. I can't go into the medical industry October. It's too weird. It isn't me. Sure, I know a lot about healing. But people would probably say I'm too... as they say ... crazy for the job..." She sighs and looks at October. With a smile she watches him. He was sweet. She shuffles closer to him, protection from any other squirrels. You know?

She widens her eyes at the next thought she has Pathetic. Looking to a 14 year old for protection. If you are ever reaped for the games, you wouldn't stand a chance! She winces and looks at October, guessing that he'd have a chance, it didn't stop her wanting to protect him from everything. She just wanted to keep him safe. Although, when things got too bad, sometimes the only way to keep people safe, was to keep them safely away from her. However, for whatever reason, she didn't want to do that. He could prove to be a very good friend. Someone as odd as Arizona needed friends. Or she'd go crazy in her own little world.

She smiles at October again as she thinks everything through. It was worth a shot becoming friends with him. She'd like to get to know him more. It could be fun. Arizona found lots of things fun though. Except squirrels. They were not fun. Never. Her cat was fun. He killed squirrels, which made her feel bad but at least they weren't bothering her once dead. She looks up at the thought of the dead squirrels and processes that one cloud is actually the shape of a duck. She immediately pounces on October squealing. "October! Look! It's actually duck shaped! I'm not crazy! It's shaped like a duck! I want it. Can I keep it?" Her statement I'm not Crazy? Debatable. Most people knew she was a bit crazy and after pouncing on her new friend, she was sure he'd think her insane. [/colour]

October felt more normal around Arizona, cause he noticed she was kind of nutty! He would nod his head at everything she would say, and he took up a interest of her wanting to be in the Medical Industry. He didn't see the reason why she would not get accepted just because she is a little bit out there. He didn't feel like saying it, but he decided to even out with Arizona, to not make her feel as weird. "Well, we all have our weird side, I mean, I like to run around my house wearing ridiculous costumes and scaring people, and I have been looked at as crazy also." He felt more comfortable just talking to Arizona. She seemed like such a active listener, and she always kept eye contact with him. "It is cool how you want to be in the medical field, It seems like a very interesting career."

He just sat there for a while, admiring Arizona's beauty. In the matter of a few seconds, she would be squealing and on him once again. He felt very aroused by this, but he kept it serious. God.. It better not be another squirrel. To his luck, it was not, and Arizona, being the nutty girl she is, pointed out that one of the clouds above us were shaped like a duck. I squinted a little at the cloud, not thinking it looked like nothing, just a ordinary cloud. I didn't want to put Arizona down so negatively, so I just hopped on the boat with her, and agreed. "Wow, That actually does kind of look like a duck! Nice job noticing that, Arizona!

Arizona looks at October happily, then nods. "October, I'm meant to be looking for herbs for my family... Actually, I told them I would so I could get out of there, would you help me? If you don't know which is which, I can help you... I've gotten used to herbs." She was happy here, it was easy to be herself... Well, easier than normal with October. She looks around warily, There are no squirrels here! Coward! Arizona lets out an angry sigh at her thoughts, "I wish those thoughts would leave me be..." [/b] She thinks out loud, not intending October to hear her, but what did it matter if he did? He knew she was crazy by now. Right?

Arizona looks around, then looks at her half empty basket. Don't get the wrong message, Ari was optimistic, but the basket really was half empty... It was not even filled halfway yet. She scowls at it, she'd much rather be with October than have to fill that basket up. But she knew she had to. Her parents had to make medicine and stuff. Herbs helped greatly. But there were just too many squirrel's around for Arizona to enjoy the duty of collecting the plants. Squirrels and clouds. That's all they were. Distractions. She'd seen the occasional squirrel steal herbs from her basket... Not fair at all.

"It's a nice day... Don't you think?" She asks, had she said that yet? No, you haven't you were fretting over a fluffy squirrel like it was a muttation. That thought made her stop and think, what if they were mutts? Secret mutts? She shakes the thoughts away and randomly hugs October, trying to distract herself without being too weird. [/colour]
