When Fynn and Stirling really started to talk, he told her about his family. Both of his parents were dead, leaving him to take care of his siblings. It was hard to believe that a nice guy like Fynn could have such a sad history. You’d think that for some kids, having no parents would mean having no rules. You’d think that Fynn would turn out to be an unruly teenager, but instead he seemed well-raised and responsible. And he didn’t seem too hardened by responsibility, either. Fynn knew how to have fun.
It was kind of strange that Stirling was beginning to have romantic feelings for Fynn. She hadn’t ever had much time for romance before, and she had never had a real boyfriend or anything. She had vowed not to be like her boy-crazy friends who went googly-eyed every time a shirtless male walked by. Stirling thought dating was a waste of time, when intelligent young girls could be doing much more productive things with their free time. But you know, she thought, maybe a little romance here and their wouldn’t hurt.
Stirling hardly noticed the surge of rain falling from the sky; she was too caught up in her thoughts. She wasn’t getting wet, because she was sitting under a rocky overhang. Stirling didn’t see how foreboding the clouds looked until Fynn spoke up. "Uh oh, Stir. Looks like we won't be leaving for a while," he said, pointing. Rain wasn’t a good thing; they wouldn’t be able to climb back up the wall or go back home the way they’d came. Then it occurred to her that it might storm, and one thing she had learned was that lighting didn’t mix well with water. It wouldn’t be safe for Fynn to stay in the lake. She looked up at the clouds, then back at him.
”You should probably get out of the water,” she told him with a small smile, patting the ground beside her. ”It’s drier over here.” [/color]
