Elizabeth Lucklind sat outside of her run down house, watching the sun rise over the district. Her deep brown curly hair reflected the sun's rays to where it was shining like a coal. Her green eyes flickered from the sunrise to her shoes. Her thoughts flittered around her mind like bees.
Her thoughts fell to the time. She had two more minutes until she had to go to the boat, to work with her crummy father. And it wasn't like she enjoyed it. Her clothes were ripped and dirty because of her strenuous work on the boat.
Her thoughts took another path. Something she had thought about for weeks.
Should she run away?
Should she flee this place and disappear?
It had been done before. Maybe she would be one of those who could escape without notice.
Or maybe she would be one of those that wouldn't get a mile before Peacekeepers carried her off to become an Avox. Either way, she won.
She stood up and took one last look at the fading red outline of the sunrise before she took a dilapidated path to the docks. It was time. But she knew that she could bear it. it was the only way to recieve income for her family. And it was the only way that they could get food for her pregnant mother.
But of course she couldn't arrive without an accident. On the way to her dad's boat, she tripped over rocks that had been scatterd over the path by who-knows-what, causing a huge gash in her arm. She sat on the ground, cradling the damaged arm, watching the blood dribble down to the ground. Another bad start to another bad day.
