This was what some people called the aftermath. Following the earthquake, there were entire swathes of District One that were completely destroyed. Giant rents in the ground. Tumbled down buildings, scattering their skeletons across the devastated street. It looked like a warzone, bombed out and ruined. It pained Indrik to see his beloved, beautiful district cast into ruin anywhere. It was even worse when you considered the life lost here. He mounted a twisted remnant of the foundation of a taller building, the steel reinforcement bars acting as a sort of hand hold on the large concrete surface, that had been torn asunder. He shook his head as he looked across a particularly demolished area.
Masonry, furnishings, trinkets. All were rendered equal and meaningless in the chaos that lay before him. It was almost terrifying. He'd seen tributes ripped to pieces during the televised Hunger Games. All manner of horrors unleashed upon people he knew. But nothing compared to witnessing it first hand. He leapt down from the foundation, walking around the wreckage, spotting a few identifiable mementos. A comb. A fire poker. The top of a table. The minority of what was relatively intact in a sea of chaos and dilapidation.
The layout of the actual structures was just about identifiable. Borders now overlapped, but the spaces where the corners and walls were more obvious. The spaces between the buildings however was a jumble of different types of building materials. But one thing caught his eye. A spear. Quite a nice one actually. And miraculously undamaged. Indrik had been assigned this area as part of the wreckage survey. It was probably the first bit of real work he'd had to do in his life. But it was a welcome change. Especially since he'd found this. He bounded between the twisted remnants of walls and supporting pillars, before careening straight into a girl, recoiling in shock so severely he fell backwards onto the facade of a wall. Oh god, I'm sorry! I didn't see you there! Are you alright? He stood up briskly, ignoring the dust now covering his clothes, crouching down next to her, being careful not to appear domineering, a concerned and somewhat sheepish look on his face.
