Appearance

It's easy to tell, at first glance, that Carthage belongs to the Wilde family. He has the same large nose and dark hair that his siblings share with him. Both of these attributes were given to him by his father. It's quite easy to see his mother in him as well. His light eyes, which are either blue or green, depending on who you ask, are commonly seen throughout his mother's family. He stands at six feet exactly, bringing him to the same height as his father. He does not know if he is taller than his mother, as she died many years ago.

Taking a closer look at this eighteen year old boy, you would notice that his dark eyebrows are thin arches. They stand in stark contrast to his light eyes and pale skin. His hair matches the color of his eyebrows, but can appear and almost blonde color when he is in the sunshine. His large, rounded nose ends above thin lips which rarely draw themselves into a smile. Along his chin, you can often spot a golden brown stubble, as he does not shave every day.

Carthage is a busy person by choice, and so he decides to skip some morning activities. While others may pride themselves on their excellent hygiene, Carthage prefers to spend his time on more productive endeavors. He often goes a few days without showering, leaving his short hair greasy. Also, as mentioned before, he doesn't shave as often as other people, namely his own father.

For the most part, Carthage wears long sleeved shirts, even in the summer. He doesn't like people to see his arms. In fact, the only person his allows to see his bare arms is his twin brother, Rome. Carthage dresses casually for the most part, pairing dull colored t-shirts with light jackets and jeans. He does occasionally wear a tie, but only when the mood suits him, and never when asked. The last thing to be known about Carthage's appearance is his scars. On his right arm is a collection of short, shallow scars, made by quick slashes with a knife. On the other arm are similar scars, but these seem almost to be spelling something. The letters are half-made and foreign, a message that isn't quite complete.

Personality

Carthage is not very social. His is firm in his belief that you only need one or two people very close to you to have a full life. That's not to say he won't talk to other people, he just won't allow a conversation to develop into a friendship. Needless to say, he has never had a girlfriend. Unlike his younger brother Ezio, Carthage has never needed a woman to feel complete. He finds them to be a waste of time for the most part, and time is one thing he makes sure he does not waste.

Though he isn't very good in school, he is actually quite intelligent. He chooses not to apply himself in school because he doesn't see the point in it. His grades a re good enough to get by, and if he were to get into to college, it would be through his father's connections rather than his own hard work. He prefers to spend his time with a rather impressive weapon collection. He never uses the weapons, just admires and polishes them. They were all gathered up for him by his father, as he roamed the Districts. The weapons are kept in a vast room that is half his and half Rome's. Rome's half of the room is a laboratory where he likes to construct poisons.

Of all his six siblings, Carthage is the closest to Rome. The two of them are very close, and one is rarely seen without the other. Carthage finds the rest of his siblings barely tolerable, and doesn't bother to talk to them unless absolutely necessary. Though they are all quite close in age, Carthage find the rest of them dull and immature. Vayle, the youngest of the boys, can be quite fun to tease at times, and all of the Wilde siblings take part in harassing him. Each of them have their favorite way to annoy Vayle, and Carthage takes delight in telling him that he's not good enough to be in the family, and that of all their father's wives, Vayle's mother was the least loved.

The times when Carthage is not with his weapons or tormenting Vayle, his can be found with a thick book, usually something about rare and fatal diseases. He has a fascination with death, and reads about it as much as he can. He takes particular interest in reading about executions.

Carthage's relationship with Rome is not one that can be easily explained. To many people, they appear very close. One would have to assume that the two of them always get along and never fight. The truth is, they don't. When they were children, their relationship was easy. They were always together and never minded that they didn't have other friends. They didn't need them. But as the boys grew older, a sort of tension grew between them. Carthage needed Rome now. He always had to be in the same room as him, always had to know where he was and what he as doing. He got angry if other people talked to his twin. It was made even worse by the fact that Rome seemed to take any excuse to be apart from Carthage.

Though Carthage had always been obsessed with blood and death, and had always known it, his obsession with his own brother took a bit longer to surface. They don't talk as much as they used to, and neither one says something that could make the other angry or upset. They both realize how fragile their relationship is, and neither one wants it to break.

History

Carthage is proud to be the first born of all his siblings. He is the first of a new generation of Wilde's. His father, Miles Wilde, was from one of the wealthy families of District Six. He came from a long line of Wilde's, and had inherited his father's wealth upon his death. He spent a year after college establishing himself as a businessman, traveling between the Districts as a part of his job. He married a young woman named Athena when he was twenty-three. Carthage and Rome were born as a result. A mere three months after the birth of his first two children, Athena died under "mysterious circumstances." Three weeks later, Miles had married one of his mistresses, a woman named Ten. It wasn't long before ten had given birth to a son of her own, who she named Jericho. She died four days after Jericho was born.

Miles came to marry his third wife, Marilyn, who gave birth to Ezio and Vayle. She lasted nearly a year after Vayle's birth before she too died. By this time, Carthage and Rome were nearly five years old. They refused to play with their younger siblings, even when the nanny begged and pleaded, which happened quite often. They had been told quite often by a past nanny that they were the oldest and the best, and it had gone to their heads. They truly believed that their siblings were below them.

Soleil, the first girl of the family, came eight months after Miles had married Shelia. Shortly after, their father had to leave on a lengthy string of trips, and so they wold be alone with their step-mother and a house of servants for nearly a year. Carthage could remember some of his other step-mothers, but none quite so well as Shelia. She was constantly happy, and always wore a smile on her face. She was nice to all the children and treated them equally. Carthage never liked her. When their father came home, he brought Carthage the first pieces of his weapon collection, and gave Rome a few things with which to make mild poisons. Shelia didn't approve of giving these things to such young children, and made her opinion known. It didn't surprise Carthage when she was gone a few days later.

At the age of eight, after the death of his father's fifth wife, Carthage came to know a few simple truths. His father would never stop getting married. His father's wives would never stop mysteriously dying. And his father was the one that was killing them. Maybe not directly, at least not every time, but he was the cause of their deaths. He wasn't sure how his father got away with it, or why no one suspected him. But it made Carthage realize that his father was far more powerful than he'd previously believed. People feared him, told their daughters to steer clear. And yet, he got every woman he wanted. His power came from fear.

As the years and step-mothers went by, Carthage and Rome's strong childhood bonds and beliefs began to dissolve. They still believed themselves to be better than their siblings, but now they needed proof of it. They didn't just believe it blindly. Once, the brothers would have gone searching for that proof together, but they were pulling apart. They had never said much to each other, but their words were always full with meaning and carefully selected. Now, their words were empty and hollow. Carthage did his best to keep Rome close to him. He wouldn't let his brother drift away. A few times, he resorted to a sort of violence. He knew that fear was what made people stay. It was what made people listen to you. So, when necessary, he warned Rome not to go anywhere without him. He told him it wasn't safe. Repeatedly, Carthage insisted that Rome could not live any sort of life without his brother by his side. Once, he even grabbed the front of Rome's shirt and said he would hurt him if he ever tried to leave.

When he was alone, Carthage because disgusted in himself. He hated that he was so dependent on Rome. He wanted to be free of him, but was afraid to let go. Rome was the one consistency in his life. He couldn't throw himself headlong into turmoil. So he stayed the way he was, doing whatever he had to to keep Rome by his side. He was trapped.
