Age: 16
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 6
Appearance:
Julyan stands at 5'9" and weighs approximately 120 pounds, so a tad underweight. The skin doesn't hang off his bones though, he simply has little to no excess body fat. His muscles aren't toned, as he doesn't work out or anything of the like, but still he is relatively skinny. The bones in his hands are more patently visible than norm and his wristbones are quite pronounced, but that is about the height of it.Personality:
Julyan has been fortunate enough to have a clear complexion, untouched by acne. He has quite pale skin, with a few freckles on his button nose. His eyes are grey as the stone mined in District 2, and fleeting, never settling on any one object long enough to take it in fully. His head bears thin hair of a dark brown colour, just long enough to flirt with his eyebrows but no so long that it gets into his eyes.
Julyan was once a cheery, playful young boy. He would run around tirelessly with whatever children he would meet on the street outside his home until he was called in for supper. Since then, though, he has pushed that carefree nature to one side, instead deciding to emulate the more serious nature of his friend January.History:
When he decided to stay with January, Julyan started to take on a more mature disposition. Or at least, that was how it appeared. On the inside, he was still a child, only sixteen years in this world. But so much did he look up to January that he wanted to impersonate his every trait; his confidence, his smarts, his passion. But Julyan was not a skilled actor. He couldn't lead with the ease that his friend did. He didn't possess the endless bowls of charisma from which January pulled humorous anecdotes and inspiring speeches. He was but a poor man's imitation.
And yet, some of Julyan remained in him. His unconditional loyalty. His eagerness to help others, perhaps too much so. And that wholesome smile that would raise the hearts of those in the deepest depair. What Julyan did not realise was that he was a thoroughly decent, good person, and that trying to be like January would only hold him back from reaching his full potential.
Despite this, Julyan was quite shy and had only a small collection of friends. Generally he would go to and from work, the market or whatever his destination and home without detour or stopping to chat to anyone. As far as he was concerned, those at home were all the friends he needed. Just starting to feel out how he felt about girls, Julyan had not yet made any advances on those of the opposite sex. He had seen more than a few pretty faces in town, but he had boys and girls younger than him that needed caring for. Their needs came first, he figured. That's what January would do, right?
Julyan was born into a run-of-the-mill District 6 family. His mother was a housewife and his father worked in an automobile factory in town. He had a younger sister too, Violet. For all intents and purposes they were a reasonably happy family. They would all go see the recitals Julyan did with the school, everyone told the others about their day over dinner. A typical family of Panem.Codeword: oDair
Then, when on Julyan's fifteenth birthday, his father was drafted into the Peacemakers. There was a shortage of volunteers for open posts, so men were selected from each of the Districts to fill the vacancies. His father was one of them. There was scarce time for saying goodbye; the letter bearing the news arrived in the morning and the family stood in the doorway mere hours later as their father and husband was carried off into the distance on a loaded cart, a birthday hat still perched on Julyan's head.
In the months that followed, Julyan's mother fell into a deep depression. The love of her life was gone, taken by the Capitol, and she now had scarce means of fulfilling the needs of her two children. The neighbours chipped in what little food they could for a while, but they too had little to spare, and soon the family's resources dried up. It wasn't long before the local orphanage came to take Julyan and Violet, who was only two, from their mother, who was deemed unfit to care for them. The boy didn't like it, but of course he was still just that, a boy. There was nothing he could do about it. After a week of living on meagre rations and sleeping on a wooden board on the floor he could take it no more, so he abandoned the orphanage, seeking the warm arms of his mother. However, he found only a shell of the woman he new, now rendered bone-thin by the morphling she had been taking to take away her sorrows. She didn't even recognise him.
Rather than go back to the orphanage, Julyan instead took to the streets, where he managed to scrape out a living through doing odd jobs for wealthy merchants who would give him decent tips, or stealing nearly rotten fruit from street vendors. It was on a cold winter's night, with Julyan huddled under a thin blanket riddled with holes that he first saw the kind, gentle face of January, offering him a bed. Julyan stayed there for that night and many more, never looking back, gripping the man's kind gesture with both hands and never letting go.
