Appearance:
Lina is tiny on all accounts. She stands a mere 5'1 and weighs in at approximately 90lbs give or take a big lunch. Her feet and hands are small and delicate and her limbs are skinny as brooms. She walks like a tree, straight backed though she clutches a red tipped walking stick like it were a lifeline. She uses the walking stick to move around the district, ticking it along the ground in odd, uneven patterns. Lina often seems to be swaying slightly as if any sudden breeze might blow her away.[/blockquote]Personality:
Her face is heart shaped, and framed by golden blonde locks. Her lips are thin and peachy pink, matching the tone of her rosy skin perfectly. Her arms have a light scattering of freckles. Her nose is wide at the bottom, giving her a more plain look, and her cheekbones are soft and hidden.
Lina was born with eyes a steely blue colour, but over the years the sharpness of them has faded and her eyes seem hazy, as if she were one of those morphling addicts you sometimes see in town. They're unsettledness can sometimes be unnerving, and provoke the urge not to stare but the inability to look away.
Despite her blindness, Lina and her parents always keep her looking her best. Her hair is always neat and curled, her nails always painted a light pink colour. She wears light colors, mostly grays or beiges and usually wears loose fitting pants and shirts made of soft fabrics. The lightness of her wardrobe and complexion give her an almost washed out look at times, and certainly make her the poster girl for innocence.
Lina was a sweet girl, with her gentle voice and soft touch, but her blindness made her terribly bitter and unpredictable mood-wise. She snaps at anyone who tries to help her and if someone gets too close without permission they might just receive a beating with her walking stick.[/blockquote]History:
Once you get to know her, her manner is much more calm, and kind, often making exquisite teas in the comfort of her home. She likes to touch things, for obvious reasons and is extremely gentle when dealing with people she trusts.
Her anger at the illness that caused her sight to fade often gets taken out on people around Lina, whether it is outright screaming, or understated blame. Some days she becomes depressed and will sit in her bedroom for hours crying or talking to herself.
She keeps people at a distance for the protection of her own heart, already fragile. She hears the way people gasp when she walks into a room, she feels the way warm bodies skirt around her like she's diseased. The only people she ever really talks to are a few people from work and her parents, who help her through her physical therapy (which isn't working).
Since Lina was little, the career thoughts that weakness is unacceptable had been drilled into her mind. When she lost her sight, she had to fight even harder not to seem weak, and it became like a defense mechanism. To lash out at people, to protect herself. She talks big and pretends her blindness doesn't bother her, but deep down Lina is a scared, scarred, weak little girl who just needs help and love.
Lina was a promising child. Moving with grace and poise, she was an outstanding swimmer and fisher. Her biggest wish was to participate in the Hunger Games and bring glory and riches to her slightly less than well off family. She would spend hours training at the docks with the other district children, laughing and playing.[/blockquote]Codeword: odair
When she was eight, her dreams came crashing down in the form of a sickness that swept through her body. It was similar to a flu, but much harsher and having lasting effects. She missed half a year of school because of the illness.
About two months after she fell ill, Lina noticed her vision was growing fuzzy. The doctors said this was normal for the sickness and paid no mind. It took six weeks for her vision to completely go, and she hasn't seen a thing since then. Her other senses however were unharmed, and in fact most were heightened by the loss of sight. Another down side to her disability is she cannot sail or swim properly any longer and has to settle for working dock check in.
Lina's relationship with her parents had been one of extreme closeness. They did everything together and Lina never went to bed without telling her parents she loved them. When she went blind, Lina began to feel like a burden on her parents and as much as they denied it, it was at least partially true. Her mother had to quit working to take care of Lina until she was used to her blindness, and her father's dream of having a victor child faded like the colour in Lina's broken eyes. She still tells them she loves them every single night, but there is less emotion behind it, it's more of an apology than a declaration of love.
Recently, Lina was walking home and was assaulted and raped by four men coming out of the black-market pub. She never knew who they were, but for over four months now she has had a near paralyzing fear of men.
