Age: 16
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 4
Appearance:
Theron has thick brown-black hair that curls down toward his ears before stopping. His eyes are honey brown, placeed under thick eyebrows. His nose is slightly large, and his lips are perhaps thinner than normal. He stands at six feet two inches, his legs comprising at least half his height. He is very lean, though he has always had enough food to eat. He has strong arms with well-defined muscles.Personality:
Theron's hands are rough and calloused from years of hard work. Recently, he recieved many thick scars running down his right arms. When his arms were wounded, nerves were damaged, and now his hand will start shaking or twitching at random times. He also has a scar on his left leg which causes him to limp at times.
Though Theron is tall, he isn't very easily noticed. People seem to look right through him. Theron always hated this about himself, but in time he realized what a blessing it could be. He has always looked older than he really is, and this also came in handy at times.
Theron is the type of person that hides his emotions. Most of the time he appears angry. It's his way of making sure no one gets close to him. People have gotten hurt because of him in the past, and he won't let that happen anymore. He doesn't like talking to people about his feelings, because he believes no one will understand. He tries to live his life in solitude. It's the only way he can keep himself and others safe.History:
When Theron gets angry for real, he shouts at people, even if they have nothing to do with why he's angry. He'll slap people or hit them if he gets angry enough. It doesn't matter who it is to him. He does things almost without thinking, and only later does he consider the consequences.
When he's feeling sad or depressed, he holds it all inside if someone else is around. He won't talk to anyone, or even give them a hint as to what's wrong. But if he's alone, he isn't afraid to cry. He doesn't think crying can be counted as a weakness unless there's someone to see you cry. He hates crying in front of other people. It makes him feel stupid. If he crys when oother are around, an ugly feeling roils up in his chest, and he just wants to run away.
When presented with a problem, it is highly unlikely that Theron will confront it. If he has a problem, he finds a way around it. If there's no way around it, he runs.
On the other hand, when Theron is in a good mood, you may be rewarded with a rare smile. He hates people that try to find out what his problems are and take it into ther hands to fix him.
Theron gave up on love a while ago. There was no room for it in the life he lived. He was always running, afraid to confront his problems. Love isn't something he wants in his life. It's too complicated, and all it does is give people the power to hurt you. He prefers to just watch people mess up their lives that way than take part in it himself.
One thing Theron is very passionate about is fish. Not eating them, but studying them and learning about them. He thinks they're magnificent creatures, and he envies the easy life they have. While he knows fishing is needed in District Four for people to survive, he also knows that some things in the sea should be left alone. He'd take a stand against anyone to protect a sea creature that was unessisarily killed.
Growing up, Theron had a pretty good life. His brother Fledger was two years older than him. They were never very close. In fact, Theron always hated Fledger, or at the very least, envied him. He was perfect, while Theron made all the mistakes. He was always trying to please their parents, and he always suceeded. he seemed to have everything Theron didn't. But Theron had one thing Fledger didn't. He had their father. Howard Rells was a busy man that worked hard to supposrt his family. But when he was home, Theron dominated his time. He refused to let Fledger take the one thing that was completely his.Codeword: odair
When he was twelve, their father had a sudden heart attack and died. Fledger went out into the streets every day to find or steal food, while Theron stayed with their mother, who was becoming more forgetful by the day. Theron began to hate his brother more. It seemed to him that Fledger was trying to take the place of their father. Theron wanted their father back. He didn't want Fledger bossing him around and pretending he knew best. After a few months, Theron couldn't take it anymore. He couldn't watch his brother take over the family, and he couldn't watch his mother slowly go crazy. He ran away.
Theron spent a few months in District Three. An inventor took him under his wing, and Theron lived with him for a while. Theron didn't realize then that as soon as the Capitol realized there was a runaway, they'd try to find him. But for now, he was safe. After a time, he told the inventor he wanted to move on, and so he did. He found himself in District Eight. He got a job at the market. There was a girl that came there once every week who was only a year or two older than he was. Her name was Enigma Lane, and they quickly became friends. After seven months in District Eight, Enigma came to him one day. "The Peacekeepers are looking for someone. The person they descibed sounded just like you." Thoough he didn't want to leave, Theron knew he must. It had never occured to him that Peacekeepers might come after him. He knew he'd have to be more careful in the future.
He found himself in District Six, under the employ of a man named Milo Brulansky. Milo was a middle-aged man who studied fish. He had a great many tanks in his home, filled with all manner of aquatic life. Theron was to help him in his observations. Milo had another assistant too, a girl named Desiree Falloway who was four years older than Theron.
Theron loved the work in Milo's aquarium. He loved feeding the fish, turtles, and rays. Milo let him pet the wings of the manta and sting rays, and he was also allowed to touch and hold sea stars and sea urchins. For over a year, Theron lived secretly in Milo's magnificent home. He was safe from the Peacekeepers trying to find him and take him home.
One July when Theron was Fourteen, the nightmare began. Desiree was shaking him awake. "Come on Theron, you have to go, you have to run." Her voice was desperate and urgent. He hurried out of bed and followed her through the immense house. They were almost out when Theron saw the Peacekeepers. Milo was there, trying to convince them that Theron wasn't there. One Peacekeeper began smashing tanks open. Creatures flopped onto the floor and struggled to live. Milo tried desperately to stop them. When Milo finally saw Desiree and Theron hiding in a corner, he screamed at them to run. They didn't run fast enough to miss seeing the blood that poured from Milo's throat after a Peacekeeper slit it open.
No one knew Desiree had been at the house that day, and there was no proof that she had ever known Theron, so she didn't leave the District that day. Theron did though. He spent weeks in the forest, trying to cope with the horrors he'd seen. Milo had died to protect him. Theron didn't think he was worth dying for. The guilt was terrible. He started having nightmares. He'd wake up screaming. One day, he decided it would be safe to go back into one of the Districts.
For eight months he worked in the mines in District Twelve. He was only fourteen, but he looked much older than that, so it hadn't been a problem to get a job there. He made no friends, refusing to risk someone's life for his own again. In time, he moved on to District Ten, where he worked on a cattle ranch. It was there that he learned about Enigma. She'd been Reaped for the 57th Hunger Games. She didn't die because of him, but it was still another person he knew that died. If he'd stayed in District Eight, she might not have been Reaped. Everything might have been different. And so there was another face to haunt his dreams.
He lived in District Seven briefly, where he made furniture. Then he moved on to District Two, where he became assistant to the two Legend doctors. He left shortly before their daughter Sylvania was Reaped. He'd never met her, but her parents talked about her a lot. He could tell they really loved her.
For some reason, he went back to District Six after he turned Sixteen. He found Desiree, and she agreed to help protect him. Theron was glad to find she was still alive. They talked quite a bit, telling each other what had happened since they'd last seen each other. Desiree had a boyfriend now, and she thought he'd propose soon. Theron was happy for her. She also talked about her brother a lot, a subject that hadn't come up much before. Desiree told Theron that he reminded her of her brother Jay. She told him once that she'd protect both her brothers no matter what. Theron made a silent vow to make sure she was safe, no matter what happened to him.
And then the nightmare came back. Desiree told Theron the Peacekeepers had somehow found out he was there. She swore she hadn't told, and Theron believed her. They agreed to meet in an alley the next day so they could say goodbye before Theron left. But something went wrong. Theron watched from the alley as Desiree and a boy- her brother Jay, he assumed -were pulled into another alley by a Peacekeeper. From his distance, Theron couldn't tell what the Peacekeeper was saying, but he could see the knife pressed to Desiree's throat. Desiree looked around wildly, and when he eyes finally met Theron's, she mouthed, "Run." The Peacekeeper raked the blade across her throat and tossed her aside. Jay stood horror-stricke as the Peacekeeper threatened him.
Theron wanted to run, he really did. But Desiree was dying over and over behind his lids, and he hated himself for not doing something to try to stop it. Two good people had died because of him. He didn't deserve to live. He wasn't worth what they had done for him. The Peacekeeper found him quickly and brought him to the Detention Center.
They asked him questions about the Districts he'd gone to. How he'd gotten in, who had helped him, who'd sheltered him and fed him and kept him hidden. When he didn't answer, they drove blades deep into his skin, cutting muscle and nerves, making a mess of his skin. The days passed in a blur of blood, pain, and tears. Finally, the torture stopped. The Peacekeepers had gotten the answers they wanted. He stayed in a room alone in the Detention Center until his wounds healed. He was left with a scarred arm that twitched and shook when he didn't want it to, and a leg that refused to work properly. Broken and scarred, he was returned to District Four.
Nothing was the same. Fledger had sent their mother away to be taken care of by someone else, and she'd been replaced with Fledger's new wife, River, and River's drunken father. There was even a baby now, a little girl named Brooke. Theron's bed was gone, so he was forced to sleep on the couch in a house that didn't want him anymore. Not that sleep came all that often. Whenever he closed his eyes, he saw blood pouring from slit throats and heard Milo's screams mingled with his own. Most nights he only got a few hours of sleep, if any at all. Instead of sleep, he would walk out to the ocean and sit by the shore, pretending the waves had the power to fix him, and to make him feel not alone.
