Alta woke up in her usual bedroom, in the usual bed, with the usual sunlight pouring in through the lone window by her bedroom. It was the same old, boring routine every day. She put on clothes, because the blonde girl didn’t think anybody would appreciate it if she showed up at school wearing a tank top and plaid pajama bottoms. Brush her teeth, because nobody would appreciate having morning breathe in their face. Packed her backpack, because the teachers wouldn’t appreciate it if she showed up at school without a lunch to eat, and without her hard done homework. She would normally have breakfast after that, but today she wasn't feeling very well for breakfast.
The next thing in her routine was say goodbye to her parents - which she skipped, because they were sleeping. It was her father's day off, and he rarely got any days off. So, I guess that would be why they were resting up. She slipped her small backpack onto her shoulders, and tip-toed down the living room so she wouldn't wake up her parents. Even though they were heavy sleepers - even if she screamed at the top of her lungs right in their room, they wouldn't wake up. That was the advantage of having abnormal parents. And, pretty much the only pro of the situation. Alta's silly mind stopped thinking for a moment, and she proceeded out the door and on the trek to school.
Alta made sure she got there early - so she could beat the rush of children rushing down the hallways to get to their class, or to make a quick bathroom break before class started. And by surprise, she was the first person there. Perfect. The blonde walked down the granite hallways, with a little jump in her walk. Today was going to be a good day, but she didn't know why. Her first class, of course, just had to be gym. She looked around, and made sure nobody was watching her secretly, for some silly reason she didn't even know. She turned the combination, 8457, and a click indicated that she was free to open her locker. Alta swung the blue door open and grabbed her gym clothes - a bright blue tank top, much like the one she was wearing before, and bright, red shorts. The outfit was actually quite hideous, but every girl in her school had to wear the exact same outfit during gym time, so nobody really teased anybody about it.
The bell rung, and she saw the crowds of children pile into the crowded hallways. She had beat the rush, but it was coming, so she slipped into a bathroom stall and changed into the athletic outfit. A lot of other girls in her gym class had the same idea, and underneath the stalls she could see jeans slip off and a jumble of legs lifting up, allowing the shorts to come on. She wasn't late to class - in fact, she was the first person. The girl had the tendency to come to class extremely early, so early some teachers had to tell her to not come in so early. In fact, some teachers aren't even there by the time Alta was there. "Murphy, your early. Again." The brute teacher let out a chuckle, even though she really had no idea what she was laughing at. Alta just let out a nod, and sat on a bench while she watched the rest of the girls come in.
Gym passed by very uneventful. They played a game called Soccer, and her team lost. Like usual. Alta was always the last one picked, because she wasn't very athletic. The bell finally rung for everyone to migrate to their next class. Her next class was Social Studies, which she hated more then Gym. And trust me on this, she hates Gym with a passion. The Social Studies teacher did nothing but teach the kids about the Hunger Games. Of course, she made sure she was the first person arriving at class. And that, she wasn't. She got in around normal time as the others. She took a seat at one of the desks, and watched as the teacher talked about, yes, you guessed it. The Hunger Games.
“Ok, class. We’ll be doing a project about-” She got interrupted by a series of groans, and the teacher croaked to get the classes attention again. “About The Hunger Games. You will be assigned a partner, and I will assign you a Hunger Games to do the project about.” Alta sees a couple of people look at each other as if they were going to rush over to them and ask them to be partners. She guessed they didn’t know what ‘assigned’ meant, because she knew she wouldn’t be choosing her partner.
The teacher dramatically pulled a sheet off of the chalkboard, revealing two peoples names and a number, which Alta is guessing that’s what games we would be doing. Another series of groans happen, because the people who thought they could choose found out the truth. A crowd rushes up to the chalkboard, to see who they’re with. Many reactions happen, like whoops and more groans. When majority of the class has sat down, she slowly walk up to the chalkboard to see who she is with.
Blaire White. One of her closest friends. A sigh of relief flows through the girl’s head. I didn’t get stuck with a complete idiot. She paused to look all over the room, and then finally spotted the smaller girl. She did a small jog over to her, and says, “I believe we’re partners.” She looks over to the chalkboard, and realized she could see it perfectly fine from where the two were standing. “I think we’re doing the 54th.” Alta pointed out, even though she didn’t think they were doing the 54th, she knew they were doing the 54th. I hate the Hunger Games period, and the teacher making us rewatch them for a stupid project? I hated her for that.
