Avrii Adrine---
Sunlight shone brightly through the deer-skin walls of my tent on the edge of the district, sounds of crickets outside my house making me smile. Pushing my was up from the ruffled sheets of my bed, I yawn loudly, looking around for Ruffles. My dog, a large mutt with floppy ears and ginger splotches, he was my best friend. Mabye becase everyone else in her family. Of course, when I was born, the Adrine family had been normal. Not anymore. If anyone even knew of my family, they would know me as the orphan by the name of Avrii. Yeah, that's my name. Not very origional, but I'm able to live with it. I'm able to live with nearly anything. Throwing on my brown shirt over my head, I pulled on my ragged blue jeans, rips all in it. Grabbing my black jacket, I put on my puca shell necklce; I'm never seen without it,
I grab my dagger, tucking it neatly in one of my pockets, putting the cover on before I do. Looking at myself in the broken glass that I stole from my neighboor, I smiled softly, my beautiful amber-brown eyes shining brightly in the early morning light. Putting my hair neatly in a ponytail, I make sure some of my hair hang wildly. My hair alone is wild. Pulling on my low black boots, I walk out of my house, thanking God that it was the weekend. Not to get me wrong, I have nothing against school, but it gets boring every now and then. School was the only normal place for me; outside school was where I was different.
Making my way through District 8, I watch as a small rabbit nibbles on a carrot in the yard of one of my schoolmates, my eyes narrowing as I slowly pulled out my dagger. Waiting until it was a few feet away, I ran at it, cutting it's neck before I knew what happened, not a sound escaping it's lips. Still, it wasn't my favorite thing, having to kill animals for food. Placing my bloody dagger back in my pocket, I keep walking until I get to the bakery, standing in line for a few minuites. Catching sight of one of my schoolmates, I nod slowly, a small smile growing onto my lips.
When I get to the front of the line, the smell of freashly baked bread fills my nose, laughing softly at the small cake in the front window. Mabye I can trade this rabbit for three loaves of bread this time. Looking at the baker, he smiles like he does every week, a compasionate look in his eyes as always. That got on my nerves.
People feeling sorry for me because all of the Adrine family was dead by the time I was seven. Big deal. Placing my rabbit on the counter along with a few strawberries, I smile appologeticly, my dark brown eyes glossy. "Sorry." I say, my hands twliring a peice of stray hair. "Summer's comming and all the rabbits are going back into the meadow... can I still have my two loaves of bread?"
That was the deal. One rabbit equals one peice of bread. Still, he gave me my two, probably because of the pity he has for me. I guess sometimes it works out. By the time I get back home it's still pretty early, about noon. Still, I have my two loaved of bread, a squirrel which I found comming home, and a few strawberries from my garden.
Hearing a twig snap behind me, I turn around instantly, watching Ruffles out of the corner of my eye walk into the tent. Pointing my attantion back to the one who had followed my, I throw whoever it is a strawberry and start wiping the blood off my dagger. "So, you've followed me here for what reason? It better be a good one; me and Ruffles arn't fond of people who follow me without me knowing. Again, what's up? I'm Avrii, by the way."
