The clicking of heels on pavement echoed off the sidewalks of Panem's eighth district as the hardhearted Caroline Wolfe strode towards her unfortunate destination. Though perhaps those at the destination would find themselves feeling far more unfortunate. As per the usual, the mother of five was dressed all in black; her only adornment a simple silver necklace. She had made her rounds for the day, stopping at the grocers, picking up a toy for her youngest, and checking the screens for any sign of the violence coming to an end.
She felt a pang of sympathy for the Chorby's and the Woodards, having to see their childrens lives ended so brutally for all of the district to see. It was the same every year. A pair of children was marched of to their doom, never to come home again. Caroline couldn't remember the last time her district had had a victor and doubted it would have one anytime soon. The lower districts were nothing but blood soaked fodder for the richer districts to test their blades upon. Shaking her head as she made her way to her final stop, she was gladdened by knowing that her children had been safe so far. In fact, one of them was nearly too old to be reaped.
It was not often that she found herself heading to this particular establishment, but though she recently had come to despise the Red Wedding Bridal Shop, she couldn't deny that it was the best place for finding colorful dresses. It was just too bad that it was also the best place to find the scarlet harlot.
Jeyne Schell.
The upstart hussy that dared to steal her eldest sons affection away from its rightful place. His mother. Caroline wouldn't even be heading to the sluts workplace if her daughters weren't in need of new summer dresses. The order had been placed weeks ago and had just been finished. Though they offered delivery, she preferred to pick it up herself, not wanting to give Jeyne a chance to sink her painted claws into Rajas in his own home.
Caroline sniffed indignantly. The girl caked on so much makeup it was a wonder Rajas didn't asphyxiate when he kissed her. And she knew he did, oh but he was forever coming home from work with lipstick stains on is face. Why he hadn't seen reason and kept the factory job, she could only chalk up to hormones. No matter. Jeyne was nothing but a tart, and tarts started out sweet, but left such a bitter aftertaste. Eventually, he would quit his mooning and cease defying her. Until then, she would have to settle for making her dislike precisely evident.
Upon arriving at her destination, she pushed the door open none too gently, causing the little bell to tinkle wildly as it announced her presence. Rajas wouldn't be here now; Caroline made it a point to only come when one or the other was working but not both. It was one thing to visit her son at work or berate the gal, but never at the same time.
"I'm here for my order." she intoned crisply, before realizing that no one was at the counter. She huffed exasperatedly. It was like Jeyne did this sort of thing on purpose just to tick her off. "Jeyne,"she said a bit louder than her earlier statement."I know you're back there. Stop wasting my time and get out here!"
Honestly. What did her son see in that girl?
