My steps were quick and getting quicker as I noted the people staring at me; the knapsack I carry full of sweet berries I had picked earlier. It had been the first time in almost a year that I had been able to pick berries; and this many. The weight was (in a guess) about three pounds, which equaled meat for my family for a week. Something we all could use. We had been slowly growing weaker, all of us. Myself, my mom, brother, and father each.
I stepped into the Hob quietly, keeping my eye out for the Sae. She was a favorite customer of mine, because she always gladly gave me some meats for the berries I gathered.
"Get anything here! We've got perfectly stitched leathers, meats, and anything you can imagine! Capitol money even! Sneak your way into the Capitol with this money!" I grumbled to myself. Some people would do anything for a little bit of trade, including sell poorly stitched skins, rancid meats, and even faulty Capitol money, made out of the poorest of metals, that were secretly kept from the explosions in the mines.
I stepped over to an empty table, from one of the old Hob residents that used to sell items. The poor man had died, and I had used his table ever since. I grabbed up the bowls that were hidden under the basket next to the table and started separating the berries I collected. My tactic to getting people to trade for my items was silence. People were intrigued by the sellers that stayed silent and patient; who waited for the perfect customer.
So.. I waited.
