She used to be scrawny, but not bone-thin. But now that the livestock have all but died off, she's been forced to work unreasonable hours at the oil refinery. Small wages have decreased the amount of food that can be purchased by large amounts, and she gives most of her food to her other family members in the hopes that they hold out longer than she does. Her weight has dropped to 107 pounds, making her very underweight for her size. In addition, the job itself has caused her hands to become rough and callused, her skin to become oily and dirty, with pimples popping up here and there, and hair to change from silky to greasy. Perhaps if she tried to look presentable, or if she had the time to remove all of the filth from her body she could seem similar to what she had looked like the previous year. But homework must be completed, and simple chores must be fulfilled before she even attempts to clean up, and that normally takes a good few hours. So clearly, cleanliness is no longer high on her list.

It would help if she were less noticeable, but Sundra is 5'7", making her able to be spotted relatively easily amongst a crowd, even if she's trying not to be.
