Memory Vale
I don’t have any memory of my past
That’s why I called myself what I did.
Memory, because it’s what I want most. Vale because there’s a veil over my past.
I’m definitely a teenager. I tell people seventeen, because that’s what the voices tell me.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. You don’t know about the voices. Not yet.

Memory, because it’s what I want most. Vale because there’s a veil over my past.
I’m definitely a teenager. I tell people seventeen, because that’s what the voices tell me.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. You don’t know about the voices. Not yet.
You call yourself Em, because it's short for Memory. You think it's your name. It's not. We know your real name, Em.And we won't be telling you. You don't deserve to know.
A reflection in a pond is no good indicator of beauty
Memory is 5 feet, 6 inches tall. Her average height hides her strange mind and thoughts. Because she doesn't eat much, Em is weak. She can't be active for long periods of time without feeing tired. No, she doesn't eat. She is emaciated almost to the point of starvation. Not only because she lives in District Ten, one of the poorest districts, but because the hungrier she is, the more she hears the voices. Her bones can be seen under a thin layer of dark skin that clings to their exact shape. She's never liked the way she looks that thin, but she'll do anything to hear those voices. She doesn't really let her opinion of her appearance weigh on her mind. After all- she only sees herself when she looks into water. The voices are more important anyway. They let her know she's not alone.
Memory's head is covered by a layer of thin, brittle black hair. She wears it braided or tied back because she doesn't like to have it in her face. It's her number one pet peeve. Her hair is just longer than shoulder length. It is naturally straight, but the edges are choppy and split. Haircuts can't be perfect if you're slashing at it with a knife.
An oval shaped face with large features defines Memory. She has large brown eyes that are hollow and empty. A spark of life returns to her eyes when she hears the voices or when she talks to people. Usually though, her dark eyes are void of emotion. She has long, thick lips, big ears, and a wide nose as well. Each makes her other large features seem less out of place.
Memory wears whatever clothes she can scavenge that fit her. She doesn't generally wear accessories, but when she does, she likes to wear big, colorful earrings. Her only other accessory is a battered metal pocketwatch with a raised flower design on the top. Memory doesn't know wear it came from, but except the voices, it's the only relic she has from her past.
When Memory does have a choice in the clothing she wears, she always goes for shorts and tank tops that show as much of her arms and legs as possible. She doesn't care if people can make out the scars that mark her arms and legs. In fact, she's almost proud of them. In a sickening sort of way, she views the marks as proof that she is strong enough to handle her past. Those wounds are the only things that resurface her memories. She's proud of discovering a breakthrough, and will tell anyone who asks invading questions just why she has those scars.
The scars are your badge, Memory. They're a badge of your courage. You should wear them proudly, Memory. You have to pay for what you want. Nothing in life is ever free.
If I have to do this to find out, I will.
I need to know.
I don't care how pretty, thin, happy looking, clean, tall, short or pathetic I look.
This is what I am to find out who I am.
