It's been twelve years since I came kicking and screaking into this messed up world. Thirteen years on September thirteenth. I came in just two minutes after my twin brother Ailean. Before you say anything, our names are different. I'm Aileen, (Ae-lean) and he's Ailean (Ae-lee-ahn)
You barely get by, the rest of us are trying.
God. Two eight-year-olds, plus one very small pool and a looooot of candy bars? Bad. Idea. Thank you mom. "I'm nervous are you nervous Aileen?" I put my hand on my brother's head so he'll stop bouncing. "No, I'm nauseous and soaked. So shut up." Mom calls back something about me being nice to my brother. Grrr. She doesn't get the fact that what seems mean to her is playful banter to me and Ailean. I really wish she got that.
