Name: Kieran (Riley) Favvely
Age: 12
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 10
~Appearance~
Because he is only twelve, Kieran naturally has a very young-looking appearance. His hair is a deep dark shade of brown. It is almost black sometimes, especially when there is little or weaker light. His hair is actually quite tidy, and stays where he wants it too. It’s not thin, in fact it’s a bit thick, but not in an untidy way. Instead, it lays across his head in a proportionally normal-looking way. It grows pretty fast too, so sometimes it starts to hang over his forehead a bit. Though, this usually annoys him, so he tries to make sure it doesn’t grow long enough to do exactly that. Kieran’s hair has a unique texture to it; it seems smooth from a distance, but it actually has a rougher texture than it looks.
Kieran’s eyes are complicated. Naturally, they are a dark brown color. Yet, Kieran’s eyes seem to glow with innocence. His eyes are always bright and illuminating, showing no signs of mystery. They are a bit narrowed, but still possess circular shape. Often Kieran is found squinting. He is mildly near-sighted and has a pair of cheap, raggedy, old glasses, but he very rarely wears them. Kieran’s eyes have so much more depth than what is actually seen. The look in Kieran’s eyes seems light and easy, yet there is so much more hidden beneath them. Kieran’s eyebrows are very prominent and dark; they add a certain effect of strength to his eyes. They do not necessarily take the boyish qualities from his eyes, but they add a certain level of confidence and strength to his eyes.
Kieran has a round face, not really a plump or corpulent face: but merely, a naturally round shape to his face. His nose is a bit flatter than most, though. It doesn’t have much volume, but because of its shape, it sometimes seems bigger than it is. Kieran’s lips are small and thin, but naturally possess a very red color. His ears a little bit big, but still proportional. Overall, Kieran’s face looks young and childish, but cute and even a bit pretty for a boy in any case.
Because Kieran hasn’t yet hit his growth spurt, he is about 4’11’. He is skinny though, too, at about 87 pounds. Though, he is still growing. Kieran is in a better shape than many other boys his age in District 10. He isn’t necessarily underfed, so he’s doing much better than the poorer kids. Though, a bit of his weight comes from the little bit of muscle that is beginning to develop under the sleeves of his shirt. He doesn’t have too much muscle; although he still has quite a bit of strength for his undeveloped stature. Because he hasn’t quite reached puberty yet, his voice has almost not yet changed, along with much of his appearance. Many boys his age, however, are already starting or having their growth spurt. Kieran is sometimes jealous of these boys, for he feels short, wimpy, and misunderstood for what he is.
Kieran's skin is quite tan. It is naturally a bit darker than white; however, it isn’t dark enough to be considered brown, just tan. However, a lot of the tan color comes from being outside in the sun, which is a common thing in District 10. A few freckles dot Kieran’s face, over the bridge of his nose, even over his slightly tan skin. The freckles are dark, but small. Though, at the same time, there are several. Many freckles dot his arms too. Kieran has a medium-sized birthmark a little behind and below his ear, which fits well with a lot of the freckles on his face.
Kieran has quite large hands for his small figure. His fingers are definitely a bit boney. Usually, his hands have cuts or scratches on them. In the winter, his hands get extremely dry, resulting in quite a few marks and cuts. In the summer, they usually get a bit cut up anyway. Kieran’s fingernails are short and stubby. Kieran has small feet in comparison to his large hands. Kieran has quite a few scars across his body, which he does his best to hide.
~Personality~
Kieran has a very twisted mind. So many words could explain his thoughts: evil, iniquitous, wicked. Yet, the best way to sum it all up would be to say: Kieran loves to see others suffer. Every day, Kieran starts something, destroys something, or hurts something or someone, and afterward, it makes him feel good. Something inside him tells him to keep causing trouble; something inside him loves the sensation of it. Is it thrill? Is it joy? Kieran isn’t really sure, but he keeps causing ruckus anyways. Kieran loves to see others’ reactions; he thinks it is fun to see suffering in their faces.
Kieran is amazingly clever, beyond outstanding. He has so much insight, and so much flexibility, that it is actually difficult for him to get stuck in a situation. He always looks at the outcomes and the consequences of events. He does not actually consider them ethically; however, he considers them so that he is aware of the precautions that he will have to take in order to successfully get away with whatever he starts. Kieran is very thorough in his thoughts. He thinks things through fully, not because he wants to make sure that what he is doing is right, but so that he is not caught. He is always a step ahead of everyone else. Kieran is beyond clever; he is astute to the very maximum. His thinking goes extremely deep, but in the wrong direction.
Kieran is much more intrapersonal than interpersonal. He keeps his true thoughts to himself. However, he often decides to shed a different appearance than his true self. He comes out as a very charismatic person. To many others, he seems driven and determined. He seems noble and sensible; he seems like a real leader, a humble leader. Adults look at Kieran, thinking about how bright his future could supposedly be. Yet, when no individuals of authority, such as adults, teachers, or even peacekeepers, are around, Kieran is a troublemaker. It is difficult for Kieran to keep the trust of so many, but he manages it. He uses threats, and in many cases, he blackmails other kids. This makes it much easier for him, because if he already has trust from adults and other people of authority, he can get away with almost anything if others tell on him. Kieran is clever in this way: he makes sure that he has gained trust from all levels, and that no matter what, the trust will hold well enough in any situation.
Kieran knows that there are many kids and younger adults out there that know Kieran isn’t what he seems and some who have even fought against it. Many people know about Kieran’s true malicious character but do not say anything because they fear Kieran’s threats. However, because he has earned the trust of so many, it’s always impossible for Kieran to loose a fight. Kieran goes for the best grades in school, he has high charisma, and he has excellent manners. He compliments adults, teachers, and anyone he can, to gain their trust. Kieran loves tricks; he thinks its fun to see others’ reactions to his own tricks and scams. Kieran lies his way out of everything; he never tells the truth. Many take it that he isn’t brave enough to face the facts anyways; that’s not the full reason though: really, he lies his way out because he can, and because he has very intense greed. Kieran is a master at lying; he can act so well that anyone will believe him. He is extremely good at keeping a straight face. Kieran never hesitates when it comes to lying.
Kieran is a very ambitious person. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself. In fact, in many instances, he creates trouble just to see others suffer. Kieran puts himself above others. He has this hidden arrogance, and overconfidence that he has about himself. He usually doesn’t let his overconfidence get in the way of his cleverness, but he has this arrogance about himself that sometimes, though rarely, shows through.
Kieran is power-hungry. He absolutely loves having power and authority over people; he uses this power to help himself in so many ways. Kieran gets his arrogance from this power. Even more so, Kieran loves to see others suffer under his power. Kieran is amazing when it comes to manipulation. He knows how to manipulate people in the perfect way.
Quite a bit of Kieran’s twisted mind derives from anger itself. Kieran’s anger tends to build over time. After a while, the anger changes him. Kieran must have a heart somewhere, as deeply hidden as it may be. Kieran actually does remember quite a few times when he felt guilty though, for something he had done. However, guilt passes him quickly.
Kieran has a lot of hatred in him. His grudges never seem to fade. He always gets revenge and never hesitates when he gets the chance. It’s almost a miracle that Kieran can get away with all that he does. Being twelve years old, his behavior is anomalous and completely unnatural. The fact that he barely gets caught makes it even worse. It’s Kieran’s witty unusual mind that carries him through, though. Kieran is a monster.
~History~
Kieran was born not with the name Kieran, but with the name Riley. It was his identical twin brother who was named Kieran. Kieran (the twin) was born only a few minutes before Riley, but it seemed that even those few minutes made a difference in Riley’s life. When they were born, it was already difficult to tell them apart; they had the same appearance. The only major difference that was really seen was the fact that Riley had a birthmark behind his ear, while Kieran’s was on his foot. It was obvious from the beginning that Kieran was the dominant twin, the one that would someday make it big. Riley’s parents were very unobservant though; they didn’t really understand their sons the way many others did. From the beginning, Riley felt intimidated by his brother’s incessant accomplishments. He spent quite a bit of time watching and observing from the shadows of his brother. Riley observed his brother’s charisma, his charm, and his outspoken character. Riley, in strong contrast, was mysterious, quiet, and naturally, a bit frightening.
Riley’s parents were both extremely proud of Kieran, only causing their expectations for Riley to rise. In fact, Riley’s father was actually a heavy drinker. Because of this, relations in the family became much more strained. Soon, his father’s drinking got worse; Riley started to face child abuse. At first, it wasn’t so bad; however, as time passed, it got worse. Mr. Favvely never abused Kieran, just Riley. Even being identical twins that looked literally the same, Mr. and Mrs. Favvely could always tell them apart by merely their speech, actions, or dress. Both parents being a quite a bit imprudent in mind, neither of them really adhered to the fact that Riley had a small birthmark behind his ear, while Kieran did not, because they could more easily tell them apart by their actions. The abuse got worse with time. Kieran’s mother spent a lot of time arguing and fighting with her husband about his issues, but in the end, she made no difference. The abuse continued, and Mrs. Favvely let it happen; so did Kieran.
Riley spent much of his childhood taunting other kids. He did this to get his anger out on someone, to make someone suffer for what was happening to him. He would hit or push other kids at recess, to cause trouble. However, he realized that this didn’t work too well, because he would always get punished anyways. So, instead, he would do the same thing, but then break down crying, blaming it on someone else. This didn’t work too well either, because too many adults and teachers already knew he had a past record of causing trouble. If only he was someone else….then it would work.
It was difficult for Riley; he had very few friends, the abuse got worse and worse, and he was forced to watch his brother live a happy fun life. One day, when Riley was only nine, the two of them had wandered off a bit, and were climbing trees not too far from home. There was no one around. At one point, they sat on a branch and starting talking. Their words turned into argument, and soon, they were caught up in a scuffle. It was stupid and reckless, especially once it turned physical. Kieran pushed Riley, and Riley pushed him back, but the moment he did, Kieran fell from the tree. It was quite a long drop, and it left Riley with guilt coursing through him. Riley got down from the tree and saw that his brother was dead.
Riley was left in total shock; the event left him feeling confused. At first, he felt extreme guilt, but only because he was afraid of what others would say. Soon, however, he began to see the event as something else. He saw it as an opportunity. What if he pretended to be Kieran? What if he took his brother’s place? It was a wickedly horrible idea, but it was an ingenious idea all the same. Riley was beyond clever—the idea was so advanced; no one could have ever expected a nine-year old to come up with it. Riley took a few minutes to practice being his brother, to make sure he had the same tone in his speech, the same dress, and the same mindset. After he was finished, he left for home, and cried to his parents about how Riley had fallen while climbing a high tree. It was Riley’s first major lie; it was the first event of many that would come. His parents believed the story, and after retrieving their son’s body, and having a short funeral procession, moved on in life.
It was difficult at first, for Riley, to pretend to be Kieran. However, he soon got the hang of it, and found he could make himself believable to almost anyone he wanted, if he could merely believe himself. Guilt nagged at Riley for quite a while, but he soon forgot it. His parents were completely mindless, Riley thought, for they never caught any sign that he might not actually be Kieran. Then again, maybe they just held onto that fact, because they knew they wouldn’t be able to handle Kieran’s death. Riley tried all of the methods he could to making the birthmark behind and below his ear disappear. He knew that somehow, someone would notice. The birthmark lightened a bit, and soon looked the same color as any of his freckles.
When Mrs. Favvely realized that her husband was most likely going to abuse his other son after “Riley’s death”, she decided to get a divorce, and bring Kieran (Riley) with her. Riley felt extremely offended by this; she never left when Riley was being abused, yet when Kieran was supposedly on the road to abuse, she decided to. Riley persistently let his anger out on others; it was his way of coping with the unfairness he had to go through. He decided to take the methods he’d learned at recess as a child. He would gain as much trust as he could, cause trouble, and then blame it on someone else. It actually worked out fairly well for him.
