It was a somewhat mild day in district ten. Bovi sat propped up against a tree by the creek. They had gotten the work at the ranch done early today so he was given the rest of the day off. Even though he protested in the end he was forced to leave early. Since he had nothing to do for the rest of the day he decided to go to the creek instead of going home. He used to come here a lot when he was younger but that stopped when he started at the ranch. He had been so busy with work and caring for his younger sister that he hadn't had much of a chance to return here. It was strange to be back after so long yet at the same time it felt nice. Almost like reliving his childhood. Every few minutes or so he'd pick up a rock and toss it into the water. The sudden splash broke the otherwise constant silence.
There were a few younger kids gathered here before Bovi had arrived but they all scurried away once they saw him. The combination of his large stature and sullen facial expression had that effect on most children. To be honest though it didn't really bother him. He generally preferred to be alone and was relieved that they left without him having to say anything.
Roughly twenty minutes passed as he sat there alone. He had stopped throwing stones but still had one clenched in his hand as if getting ready to chuck it into the water. He wanted to go home but wasn't quite ready to face his family yet. Even though they didn't actually expect him to work he felt as if he would somehow disappoint them by coming home early. Probably because he had promised himself that he would do whatever he could in order to keep keep them healthy and safe, and the only way he knew how to accomplish this was by earning money. It was the guilt of this thought that forced him to stay under the tree.
