Looking out from underneath,
Fractured moonlight on the sea
Reflections still look the same to me,
As before I went under.

The smell of blood and sweat filled the air, as the half dead Daria Staite was dragged across the dunes by her father. He had tried to seduce her again, and as always- she had struggled against it. Except this time, the girl had ended up tumbling down the stairs, landing in a broken heap at the bottom. At first thought- her father had thought it good that his daughter was possibly dead at the bottom of the stairs. She had been exterminated just like her wretched mother and sister had a long time ago. Second thoughts however, proved the situation was more frightening than he had first perceived; he would be killed for his crimes- not even his work could save him then. In a quick haste, he ran down the stair and got a closer look at the deaf girl. She had blood oozing out her head from somewhere, and he was pretty sure she wasn’t breathing; so in a blind panic, he grabbed his daughter by the arms and dragged her body out back and over the sand dunes towards the salt marshes to bury his, somewhat still alive daughter.

And it's peaceful in the deep,

The mists clung to the ground- the silhouette of the man and the limp body he was carrying- stark black against the swirling grey clouds. He heaved and panted as he dragged her through the sharp maram grass. He tried to be quiet as possible, knowing walkers and people with dogs came this way often; even at this time of night when the moon was high in the sky among the stars that flickered somewhere deeply in the black abyss of space. He looked at his daughters head roll as he carried her, the blood still oozing from the unseen wound on her skull. He could have sworn he heard her groan, but he ignored it- he was too far gone now to turn back. The salt marshes lay in sight- the mud revealed by the low tide. He wouldn’t have to bury her deep, only a little- enough so when the tide came in she could still be swept out to sea never to be seen again. He glanced back at the lights of the house in the distance and thought of the moment she had fallen down the stairs and what pleasure that had given him.

He finally reached the mud flats- the slick brown drenched dirt squelched beneath his feet as he dragged his child out into the middle of the empty estuary. He let go of his daughter- her pale skin bright against the dark mud; her night gown torn and dirty, the rips and tears revealed the satisfying damage he had caused her- the scar he had inflicted when he had stabbed her that time, and 100’s of bruises and scratches from tonight’s failed activities. Bruises littered her body as well- the colour purple was painted on every inch of her body, red now also joining the painting he had done on Daria’s canvas of skin. He grinned maliciously- leaning down he began to dig his daughter a grave- a grave in which she would probably die in. Well, she would have- if he had not been interrupted by the sound of another person coming. Looking up, he could see the person heading his way. It was too late to finish now, the man thought to himself before he took of into the night- leaving his daughter on the mudflats

Daria had been slipping in and out of consciousness since she had tumbled down her stairs when her father had tried to touch, hurt her again. Her head was throbbing, and she could feel the cold and death slowly wrapping their arms round her as blood seeped through her chocolate brown hair. She was afraid, she did not want to die- so when she felt her father lie her down on what felt like mud- Daria knew she was going to die. She felt afraid, up until the point she felt her father run away in fear of something that Daria could not see. Every time she moved, Daria she felt as if death and cold were wrapping themselves tighter round her body, ready to carry her off to the land beyond where dead things roamed. She tried to cry for help, but all that she managed to muster was a tiny mouse like wimper- that just barely passed through her lips as she made the sound. A lone tear rolled down Daria’s face as she stared up into the night.

Though the pressure's hard to take,
It's the only way I can escape,
It seems a heavy choice to make,
Now I am under.

EVAMAN WALT

I was nurtured I was sheltered

I was searching for that something

The gentle sound of water lapping against his skin was comforting, he got lost in the moment taking it all in. the salt against his skin, the coldness that run freely through his veins. It was all warming and welcoming. Evamn gentle brought himself into a sitting position, he tried to move slowly so he didn’t disturb the peacefulness of the water. He could feel the goofy smile plastered to his face as he turned to face the setting sun. all the rays of colors. So many different colors –reds, yellows and oranges- they were all so beautiful. Evaman stayed absolutely still mesmerised by its beauty. Stuck in its stunning gaze. The sun was like a bud to a flower. It made the rest of the flower glow, gave it light, held it together. Without the bud, the flower would crumble- without the sun… world as we know it would end.

Slowly Evaman pulled himself out of his trance. He felt a cold wave sweep through him, as the sun crept down behind the wall of water,replacing it came the moon. The moon had a different effect of Ev. Unlike the sun, it did not seem warm and friendly. But the moon held its own beauty. A colder beauty, but beauty all the same. Evaman ccasts a glance around him. aroungd the water that surrounds him, it shimmetred slightly as the moon gazed gracefully down on the waters ripples. With a sigh, Evaman lies down on the board and starts the longpaddle back to sure. The ocean felt different, when it’s was dark. It was more secretive, hides more, Evaman preferred it when it was the lovely warm green, the color of an emerald, the color of peace.

The water soon became shallow and Evaman waded through the water until he was free from its salty hold. He walked up the dunes letting the soft sand. It slid up between his toes as his feet sunk into it under his weight. The walk was quiet. eaceful, and Evaman took the time to think. About what though? His mind was wiped from everything. It was just a blank, he couldn’t explain it. He tightened his grip on his boards. The blankness of his mind making him uncomfortable. He quickened his pace deciding that the walk wasn’t as enjoyable as he had thought. The san now felt uncomfortable in his toes and he sighed in frustration. He felt his skin prick with goose bumps. Now he was uncomfortable.

Evaman stopped. His body was rigid with tension and his gaze was unfocused, but he took deep breaths trying to get the feeling that he was being watched to disappear. your just being paranoid. he told himself firmly as he continued down his path. Ever since his father had been killed, he had never felt comfortable walking through the night. It held so much. Nightmares. Dreams… he knew he was being silly, since his dad was killed by a shark. Well that’s what they had been told. They never let us actually see his body… suspicion swept through his body and he felt movement deep within his stomach. Stop being stupid! he told himself. Your father was killed by a shark. There was no other reason. Why would the peacekeeper lie about something so serious?

The wind suddenly grew strong, blowing sand everywhere, it got in Evamans eyes and he screeched, he ran through the sand storm, until it was far behind him. he was breathing hard by the time he came to an old building. This was definitely not an average night, he thought carefully to himself, he heard the movement of a person inside. He sounded like he was… was digging a hole. Driven by curiosity Evamna pushed through the doorway. The sound stopped. Footsteps echoed through the room, getting further and further away…

Evaman drew in a sharp breathe. He could feel his heart rate increase as his eyes wandered over the body that lay infront of him. the smell of blood, and sweat stung his eyes, but he didn’t move. There! Movement! Evaman ran over to the girl, her breathing was very shallow, and her eyes shut. “No. C-c-can you hear me?” his whisper was hoarse and very low. But he didn’t know what else to do. He was clueless. So he did the thing that he could. He sat next to the girl. cradling her head in his arms, making calming noises. It may have seemed ridiculous. But Evaman knew if it was him… he would like the same. A safe passage to heaven. The girl was dying… there was nothing else he could do.

The backs of Daria’s eyelids were dark as the night that lay before them. They were unmoving- her life hanging onto the ledge- she didn’t want to go. Not yet, not now. She was still so young, still had so much for her. She still had time to escape her murderous father and the home she lived in. She wanted to find love- not end up in a casket in the ground- rotting, decaying, decomposing until she were nothing than the pale bone that lay below her skin; her so pale snow white skin. Her breath was feeble- still there. She was hanging on to the threads of life. She didn’t want to go, not now. Her heart beat was slow- she was so scared yet it was beating so slow.

Daria then felt arms; Strong warm arms, which held her head; A hand, cradling her face as she lay there- dying. Her strength was nothing now, it had diminished into lifelessness. Her eyes lids, heavy, took a lot of energy to open. The night sky lay above her, the stars waving like torches in the navy blackness of the sky. What a nice view to see before you die….Daria thought to herself as she lay there. She moved her eyes to the person who was holding her. He was a young man, around Daria’s age, with skin the colour of chocolate; His eyes dark brown, twinkling in the moon light- his hair falling in tight ringlets. His strong arms held Daria, not letting go. His mouth was moving- was he trying to talk to her? Daria did not know.

Daria could feel the darkness coming again. She was afraid- she knew what she had to do. The question was- would her arms be able to move into her breast pocket and take out the only hope she had. After meeting Anubis- she thought it would be good to keep a note saying she needed help at all times; one that said- My name is Daria Staite, I’m deaf and I need urgent medical attention. Just in case something like this were to happen. Somehow, she didn’t know where from, she managed to muster up the energy- just enough for her hand to go into her pocket and remove the slip of paper. She took hold of one of his hands, her arms moving at a painfully slow rate, as she shoved the note into his hands and clamped his fingers around it. She took one last look into his eyes before she passed out.

She knew she was near the end. Her heart still beat but she began to slip between the afterlife and reality. Well that is what she thought it was- for all she knew she was slipping in and out of a dream back into a nightmare some people called reality. In the dreamlike state she saw her sister, her sister was crying for her to go back- to stay away. Her sisters hands shoving her back into life. Other’s pushed too- people who had no face. They kept her back- kept her from dying; kept her alive. She lay there, alive, breathing. Just there, but her mind was elsewhere- trying to fight the battle of life and death with nothing but her bare, tiny fists.

Though the pressure's hard to take,
It's the only way I can escape,
It seems a heavy choice to make,
Now I am under.

Holding her tight, Evaman began to murmur a soft lullaby.

“Sleep little baby, don’t say a word.

Mother’s going to buy you a piece of cotton, it that cotton is stolen by the wind,

Mummies going to buy you a rocking bird, and if that birdie doesn’t sing,

Mummies going to buy you a smile and a hug worth more than a thousand dollars.”

Evaman wasn’t sure why the words came out of his mother, but he let them, he let them string slowly, rythmatically from his chapped lips. The girl twitched slightly, her body moving in his arm. It was a slight movement but it filled Evaman with a hope that filled his body. He slightly let his grasp on the fragile girl loosen as he brought his eyes over her body, looking for any more signs of movement. But there was nothing. She lay absolutely still in his arms. A soft breeze blew over Evaman, it felt like the hands of icy fingers gliding down his back. He closed his eyes and a shudder ran through his body. The shivers remained with him as the breeze wiped around his body, lashing at him, threatening him with its cold fingers reaching out to him, trying to get a good grip on him.

He looked up into the sky, it was beautiful, starts shining brightly, soft and gentle, but they held so many stories much history… But Evaman knew nothing of it, no one ever explained it to him, they had only said that the sky held the past, that there is so much to learn from the starts that sit innocently in the sky. Then he felt her move again. He looked down at her. Her eyes stared dreamily back at him, her eyes were very weak, they barely held any energy, it was less than a moment later that he was staring back at her pale eye lids. Her eyes had been a a lovely ocean blue, they had so much to say, but the closed off he never got the chance to read them.

She moved her arms bringing one of them to her chest where she gently pulled something out of the pocket which she had moved to. She gentle shoved the paper into Evamans hands, making sure he had it clutched into his hands before dropping her hand away. She took one last look at him, before her eyes glazed over and her world went dark. She passed out. Evaman gave her a gentle shake, before he remembers the paper in his hand. Slowly he open his hand, there lay a small piece of battered paper. Evaman open it taking in all the words on the paper. It told him her name, Daria, and that she was deaf. Then it told him that she was in terrible danger of death, and last of all-

Get help.

Get help? What was he meant to do? Just leave her? Bring help to her? His mind spun with questions looking for answers, but not finding anything. He looked around him, his eyes searching the area, but for what? What- could he really be that blind-sided! He could carry he! He practically punches himself, as he stood up, taking Daria with him. She was very light, and she fitted easily in his arms, slowly he began the walk back to the town. Back to where he knew he could find help for the girl that lay unconscious in his arms.

The world was falling, crumbling to pieces around me and I didn’t want it to. I wanted it to end, yes, I wanted the pain and the suffering to end and I wanted to be free; but I was afraid to accept defeat. I kept slipping in and out of consciousness- forever drifting closer to death. I didn’t want to go, I didn’t- I just wanted the pain to stop. Not that I felt any now, the numbness had engulfed me- I felt so cold. So dead inside; I could just about feel my broken heart pumping what blood I still had left in my veins.

Every time I managed to open my eyes, I kept seeing the boy who had so kindly helped me. Often those who helped me would leave me, either before or after they had got me aid; something I did not appreciate. There was that one boy, who I cannot recall the name of, who had saved me after my father had stabbed me. Then there was that other boy- who had not come to my aid but had been very kind to me. He had died in the Games; I saw his dying moments on my screen. Then there was Anubis- I don’t know what happened to him, he frightened me though. Now, there was this boy. I did not know his name, but I hoped he wouldn’t leave me alone after getting me aid; because even the Doctors couldn’t help me what I go through.

I passed out again, slipping into a restless slumber before resurfacing again- the lights of the town hurting my eyes. I was afraid at first that these were not the lights of town- but they were angels and that I was dead; but I still felt the boys arms around me and I could hear my sister whispering- telling me that I would be okay and that I would be safe soon. The throbbing in my head had stopped- but I knew that was just telling me that I was slipping closer to the abyss. I felt warm, scolding tears form in my eyes and cascade down my cheeks- as I slipped, yet again, into the unknown.
