“Nothing compares to this”.
It was extremely hard to find something beautiful and peaceful when your closest people don’t care about you at all and you are so pissed, that you want to destroy the world. How could it be possible – how could they be so different from him? Sometimes Kai asked himself whether he really belonged to the Wimund’s family. His siblings were nothing like him. They were clumsy, spoilt and lazy, they could just spend their days sleeping and eating around. He couldn’t stand this - the look in their eyes when he comes back from fishing or the tone of their voice when they ask him what was wrong with him. With him! And the worst of all was his own mother – the woman, who was supposed to love him the most actually behaved the other way round.
Fortunately, years ago, he found his way to manage with this all. The sea. Of course. It was his salvation from the routine of his family life. The day when he jumped off his father’s fishing boat was the happiest in his life. The sea was his painkiller, his drug, his redemption.
Now he was standing alone on the beach, his bare feet in the water. It was getting dark but Kai could still see the last signs of the sunset. Another day passed and another argument was waiting for him at home.
He was too upset to think about his own problems, so that he didn’t hear the noise at first. Just when the “danger” approached him too much, he felt someone else’s presence. That was strange, because the place where he was – this small beach – was not a popular destination for most of the people from district 4.
Wondering who might be this, he turned slowly, asking “What are you doing here?”
