I woke up to a steamy morning again. Just the usual summer temperatures. There was a thin layer of sweat n my forehead already, I wiped it off gently and swung my legs over the side of the couch, where I always slept. My father got the only bedroom, just, just becasue he was my father and that's just what I do for him. He was already gone to work in the factory, bt there was a nice meal on the table for me. Some fruits and a glass of milk. I smiled at the note he left.
Happy Summer my darling Cassy. Please pick up some bread at the market. Have a wonderful day!
Love Dad.
Simple yet so meaningful. I took it gently and placed it in the drawer with all the other letters he leaves for me. I feel one day, i am going to cherish them much more than I do now. I ate the fruits peacefully and happily. I chewed slowly to appreciate every drop of tasteful juice that landed on my tongue.
After I cleaned my bowl and glass, stacking them neatly in the cupboard, I went to the my dad's closet, to the corner with my clothes, and pulled out a nice sun dress. It was a light cottony black with white embroidering around the front pockets and the collar. My favorite dress per say. I slipped it on and scrambled to the bathroom to brush my thin, ugly hair. I always put it up in a bun because I never wanted to see it. I then brushed my teeth and washed my face. I grabbed money and the straw basket i use and headed out to market.
The walk isn't bad, luckily, we live closer to the industrial part of the district where all the vendors and shops are. It's more expensive to live there, but my dad can pull it off luckily. I walked along the hot asphalt with my black Mary Janes on, those old scuffed up things, they could use a nice shining. I managed a smile as I passed a person, hiding my pain under that charming smile I was told to have.
Soon I arrived in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the district. Unfortunately, it wasn't one of the cleanest days. A thin black smog hovered above the market, probably from the factories. I tried to labor my breathing as best I could to not inhale any of the pollutant. I looked for the bakery and spotted it, the appealing bread sitting in the window, just waiting for some one to buy it. I swear, I could smell it over the nasty, noxious smell of oil, it just looked so good. I happily skipped in and made my way up to the counter. A new man was their from the old one, he seemed a bit more smug and strict, it bothered me the slightest bit.
I scanned the bakery shelves and pointed to the warm loaf of wheat bread. "S-sir o-one-one lo-lo-loaf o-of-of,""Girl, please i don;t have time for this, can you just tell me what you want so we can all be on with our day?" he interrupted rudely. How did I not see this coming. The happiness and glow was instantly wiped from my face. I frowned. Why did they have to give me such a hard time? I couldn't help it, I wish I could though.
