I was always calm as a kid. More mature for my age. I would go to school, get my work done, come home, and go play with the cattle and sheep. It was fun. I would bug them until they would all make so much noise I had to walk out. But as I grew older, I became more... shy. I wouldn't go out to the pastures if someone else was out there, and I would stay inside most of the time. Only going to the barn if it was dark. Until I met Jacob Aimly. We clicked instantly. We fell in love, and were soon talking about marriage. We stayed together for 3 years. When I was 13 we started going out. We would always be together. It was hard to split us up. Until he pressured me into something I didn't want to do. And that's when I became pregnant with Kaleb. I had him on my 17th birthday. Jacob no where to be seen. He started ignoring me the minute I told him I was pregnant. And when I had Kaleb, he still didn't come around. My baby boy is now three years old, and he will never know his father. But he will ALWAYS know his mother.
Before Kaleb was born, I ran away. I slipped out of District ten one night as everyone slept, and left into the wild. I didn't want Kaleb to to grow up and watch children die. And I certainly was not gonna risk him getting reaped. He would not have to suffer like so many tributes before him. It was hard at first. Traveling and living on my own. It was lonely. But I met this beautiful dog, who stuck by me. He was only a puppy, but he was loyal. I named him Hahgen. I don't know why, but I did. And he grew up with my little boy.
Before I had Kaleb, why I was still pregnant, I built a small make shift house out of things I found in the woods. It took a while. Most of my pregnancy. But I got it done. I built a big enough house for both of us, and collected edible plants and berries to save. And with tools and weapons I took from the farm, I hunted to get me through my pregnancy. So that Kaleb would be healthy. And it was rough giving birth to him. All on my own. But not as hard as taking care of him without any help. But now, three years later, we are doing really well. I made toys for my little boy, and we have lots of food. Maybe when he is nineteen, no longer eligible to be reaped, we will go back to the districts. But until then, I am perfectly fine with living off nature.
