I grunted in frustration as the needle slipped through my finger and into my thumb. It wasn't too deep, but a bit of blood trickled from it. I took the box of tissues from behind me and wiped it away, making sure i did not smear it on the fabric. I was trying to complete this dress for my mom, she was testing me on how well i could handle a big project like this, because the shop would soon be mine after my last reaping. I wiped the needle as well and threaded it back through the amber colored fabric again, trailing the white thread. I was trying to make and intricate stitch on the bust, make it more elegant looking, but I had surely messed up a couple of times.

I pushed my blonde hair out of my face back behind my ear and took a deep breath and focused back on it. In and out, in and out, up, side, out. I repeated to myself. I messed up again, going the wrong way. i let out a long sigh and reversed the threading to take it out and restart. I lay the needle and thread on the table, a couple beads of sweat forming over my brow. i wiped it away, realizing I smeared a line of blood on my forehead, I wiped at it vigorously with the tissue.

Deciding to take a break, i got up and stretched my arms and egs. Sitting bent over an ominous color of fabric takes a toll on your muscles after a while. It must have been at least around lunch time because people were hustling around the market with small lunch bags and various foods. I looked at the clock on the wall, two o'clock. This made me smile because frankly, I could have an excused break. I locked up the shop, taking a few dollars with me and headed across the street to my favorite vendor. I handed her three dollars in exchange for a nice piece of cheese and a handful of grapes.

I took another walk across some store fronts and settled on a bench and ate my lunch happily, watching people as they past by. The cool grapes and cheese felt so good on a humid day like this. When it rains a lot, the moisture from the ground makes the air thick with water vapor, which makes it easier for me to sweat, my least favorite past time. I took notice of a couple mine workers settling for their brake, not much older than me. I felt bad for them, forced to work in such an insidious place like that.

Despicable.
