I saw this sign up sheet at school walking down the hall a couple weeks ago. It's was some sort of buddy system for the younger kids and older kids to become friends or whatever. Probably some sort of program for the kids who don't have service hours, last minute I assume. Not many people signed up before. Probably because it was for kids like me and their aren't many children like me who don't know who to call their mother. The first pen I could find in the hall way I used to sign up. Maybe it will be fun.
Today was the first day, I got a little card of paper from a girl named Christmas that she was going to be my mentor/buddy for this year. Let me tell you when I received that not I was jumping with joy. I never got mail. However, I was supposed to bring the care to show the older kid at my school that it was me. I was going to say I lost it. But that would be a lie. My brothers, being the meanies they are, whisper it clean out of my hands when I was flying up the stairs and ripped it up. But I didn't scream or yell or anything to get then in trouble, I just shut the door of my pathetic excuse of a room and cried.
They loved to taunt me.
I hoped that I was allowed to still have my Buddy without the note because I was still going to meet her at a bench by the dock or out town. You can even see the town clearly from just sitting there. Even though kids my age would rather be playing ball instead of hanging out with a mentor it was really exciting to me. It was marked on my calendar.
Opening up my closet, I sighed at the bareness of it all. I have two choices, usually I would just where my regular 'play/school' outfit but today was a special occasion no? I carefully took my black skirt, white, ruffle blouse and a flower print Cardigan with matching print knee-high socks. Smoothly it out in my mirror I smile. It looked nice. My hair wasn't to dye for though. It was a big long mass of red colour hair and sometimes it was hard to tame. Officer today it was. I works for ten minutes just to brush out the knots. Then in looked presentable. Before I slipped out the door I grabbed my Mary Jane shoes which were all messed up since they were hand-me downs.
Before my brothers could catch me, I slipped out the door and walked into town. Ignoring my grandmothers house and everyone else's house I have been a child too for the past 12 years. The bench was bare when I arrived probably because she either or I was early. Probably both.
I sit on the bench but swinging my feet and looking around. I think about how I am going to present myself. Hmm...
