A few days ago, I signed up for this new program, a buddy system. I was a mentor and they assigned me a young girl for me to be like a sister too, or a mentor. It was all my idea to sign up, not my parents, although, they introduced me to it. You see, my family is a little better off than most families in District Nine, so we had the luxury of my parents being part-time on the school board if the District.

Anyways, I was a bit excited and soon got a letter telling me her name. Miss Bonnie Colette. It was such a cute, innocent name, i hoped the child would be the same and not some brat like most Panem children are. Today was the day to go meet her, but i had gotten held up at school with a project. I hurried home and put on a nicer outfit. a nice black skirt and sea green blouse that was neatly tucked in. I brushed my blonde hair into a bun and was on my way. I carried a small wrapped gift for the girl I had picked up a few days before. A small doll with a blue sundress, button eyes, and yarn black hair with a matching bow.

As I neared the town, suddenly i had no idea who Bonnie would be. I scanned the crowd for a small girl and my eyes locked on one sitting on a bench, neatly dressed as well. I approached her and bent down slightly and asked, "Bonnie Colette?"

I smile as she hesitates a little. i sit beside her and say,"Yes, I'm Christmas, i don't suppose you have your card do you?" I ask softly and politely. I had a feeling she didn't have it that was ok. I was supposed to turn it in to my teacher for community service but I came up with another idea.
"If you don't, it's alright, it gives us the chance to make a better one." I said happily pointing to a store across the marketplace that art supplies. Luckily, being in a district that produces everyday items, we get some things also, like paper, markers, crayons, and other art things.

Then i remember the present I was holding, "Oh! and this is for you,"

When Bonnie says she has no money, I smiled and pulled out some money from a small bag I had and held it in my hand, "I have enough to buy some supplies." I explained as I put it back in counting it. "Nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen dollars total." I said happily.

When she opened the doll, I could se her face grow bright in happiness ad a smile come upon her. She looked at that doll as if it was her newborn baby. Her happiness made me just as happy from seeing her like that. I took it upon me most of the time to make people feel better. Then she threw her arms around me and thanked me. "Its my pleasure Bonnie! How about we go make that card now?" I offered gently coaxing her up.

As we walked in the store, the owner greeted us. I asked for some stock paper and markers, and tape. She pointed us to a shelf of brightly colored paper and many many supplies with vibrant colors on them. They were all a fairly reasonable price also! The paper had different patterns, colors, and textures. I looked at Bonnie and asked, "Which one do you want? There's so many..."

Bonnie hands me an orange paper with a textured, quilted design printed into it. It was very pretty. I took a plain white one with small orange polka dots to match and a small 4 pack of markers and headed over to pay with Bonnie at my hip. I hand the woman eight dollars. Its getting more expensive i thought to myself as she counted it. Then, i asked the woman to borrow scissors and tape and helped Bonnie up to sit on the wooden counter.

"Okay Bonnie, first im gonna cut yours into a smaller rectangle, then, we'll take mine, and cut it smaller than yours," I said as I focused on cutting the paper precisely. "Okay, now I tape the smaller one in the middle, then you take a color of your choice," i explained handing her the marker box. "And write your name on the small one!"

I was impressed at her neat handwriting, very beautifully written. "That's very beautiful handwriting. " I complemented. When she was done i took it my hands and nodded in appreciation for the small craft. Then I handed her the scissors, tape, and the rest of the paper. "Now, can you do what i did with the paper?" I asked sweetly. I watched as she cut the paper precisely. She had a very steady hand, I wondered if she ever did crafts, or art. "Hey, bonnie, have you ever done art before? You have a very steady hand." I said gently.

"Art class I guess. I never have done them at home but I write a lot so maybe thats why." she said. I frowned a little, and while she was cutting, searched for a pack of paper, and a pencil and eraser. I bought it from the clerk, and placed it on the counter as she was working. I was probably spoiling her, but there was something about this girl, that could make her really successful.

"What do you like to do?" she asked as she worked. I thought for a second. I don;t really do anything. i thought to myself.
"Well, uhh, I sped a lot of time at school, learning I guess. I really want to be a teacher, and this is my last year of school, so hopefully I can get a job as one." I said hopefully. I loved working with children, especially Bonnie. I wonder if, if I do become a teacher, that I could be lucky enough to teach her class!

I laughed as she squeaked, it was adorable. Bonnie was so unique and bubbly, I think i was really making a connection with her! I thought again for a second before I answered again. "I guess I want to teach, kids around your grade. Maybe history, you know, the history of what Panem was before Panem, is actually magnificent!" I said happily looking over her work. "Food wasn't a problem, it was plentiful! And most people had the luxuries of the Capitol, minus the crazy fashion." I said laughing a little. I thought the Capitol fashions were absurd, you can break your ankles in the shoes they wear! Then I remembered another fascinating fact to share with Bonnie, "And best of all Bonnie, there were no Hunger Games."
