Another day another head ache. I can hear my brother and sister running around upstairs again. I shake my head with disbelief. Then I heard screaming, like a little girl being harassed. What the- I’m preparing breakfast here well… Just a couple of eggs and bread this will be a good breakfast for us. It’s not every day we get to eat eggs.
“Rosette! Sage!” I shouted from the kitchen. “Get down here right now!” I commanded.
The rummaging stops and I saw a couple of heads popped out from the stair’s rail they look like prisoners though from the way they hold the rails of the stair case. They look at me innocently.
“Our house is not fully cemented as you can see especially the floors.” I raised a brow as I placed a plate of scrambled eggs and a couple of fist size bread on the table. My eyes grew large as I see my sibling’s eyes glimmer and shine looking at the eggs and bread. “Wash!” I commanded.
They wash their hands and settled on the dining table. “After eating, brush your teeth and go to school.”
“School sucks…” Sage whispered. He scratched his head and twirls his reddish orange hair, like mine, except both of my siblings are curly hair like dad's.
I look at him. “I know but everyone is required. Just remember what I say don’t ever listen to the brainwashing thing okay? Just absorb the useful ones and do not worry I’ll help you guys study when I get back from work.”
“Don’t you have school today?” Rosette asked me. She ate a mouthful of bread and egg.
I sighed and tied her brown curly hair neatly into a ponytail. “I do. But I also work.” I look at the time and it’s 7: 30 in the morning. “Wait for dad, I got to leave now.”
My siblings nodded. I hugged them each goodbye and kiss their foreheads. “Don’t do anything foolish, I tell you the Capitol will still punish you even if you’re a child. I expect to see you both in dinner. Don’t finish off those eggs and bread, there’s still lunch. Wait for dad, he has milk for you guys.” The moment I stepped out of home, I breathed heavily and stared at our busy neighbors. Some women were hanging damp clothes, some were sewing patches, some were washing, and many others. I braid my orange hair as I walk.
