Chelsea explains the scar, how she saved her sister from a boat. I'm about to give her some words of sympathy, when we are joined by a boy who is probably older than me and younger than Chelsea. About sixteen, probably. "Hi... lovely day isn't it... going in for a swim?" he asks, throwing off his shirt. Personally, I don't consider myself the romantic type, and don't have the same dirty thoughts Chelsea could possibly be having right now. Okay, I do stare a little, but make sure to minimize it.
He runs in to the water and introduces himself as Devlin. "Celia Ostberg," I say. Chelsea introduces herself, too. "Do you live near the beach?" he asks. "Actually, yeah. I live about two blocks that way. If that house wasn't there, you'd see mine," Chelsea replies. "What about you two? Do you live anywhere close?" I nod. In fact, my house is the one Chelsea pointed out, but I don't feel like sharing that right now.
"I live exactly two minutes away from you. How old are you?"Devlin asks. Then he gets hit by some other guy's board. I gawk at the scene.
"Oh... don't worry. I'm Devlin, what's your name?"
"Nick. I swear I didn't aim for you. Just didn't see you before plus I have no idea how to change direction on this thing. First time today. I'll open my eyes from now on so I don't hit your friend in the head anymore. Nice meeting you two. I'll see you around."
Another girl enters the scene now. "Hey..." she addresses Nick, awkwardly. "So, anyway, I just wanted to tell you...that... I totally don’t know who you are. I mean, I feel like I should introduce myself. My name is Asella." I look back and forth between the two of them, wondering if they alerady sort of know each other already, in that awkward not-knowing-eachother's-names way. Or maybe Asella is just one of those people who judges people by their cover.
"Did you initially want to come over here?" he asks her. "Sit down, you're taking my sun. I'm Nick. Wow, did you see that? That's me in three days. Ever tried surfing?"
I look out at the sea, following his gaze to find out what he saw. It turns out to be some guy surfing in practically perfect form. Probably showing off for Chelsea or Asella. Not me. I don't flirt, which in some ways makes me more comfortable around guys and in other ways less comfortable. Not that I'm homosexual- I'm just less romantically. . . ugh than other girls. Luckily both Nick and Devlin have their own girl toy right now, or at least it seems. Devlin with Chelsea and Nick with Asella.
((Phew. . . that was a lot of catch up. Sorry it's been so long. ))
