Today is just another bad day. But when has there ever been a good day. I sit outside my small house and listen to my dad rage around in a drunken fit. My mother is away otherwise he would be beating her. I can't go inside untill he passes out or falls asleep or I would get beat too. I fear many things but I would face them all, even the Hunger Games, to stay away from him.

The path next to our house seems empty but I could be wrong. Some kids are always coming around just to bully me. No one seems to like e anyways. Wish I had a big brother. He would love me and protect me. I know I have my mom but she is often to hurt or unhappy to be with me, but she tries.

I hear more furniture being tipped over and glass shattering. It will be a while before he settles down. I begin to absently pluck grass and chew on it. It helps disract me. I might go for a walk but that might end in a new black eye. I sigh.

"Is there anyone who might love me?"

Dancing is something I can never describe, no matter how hard I try. I just know it makes me happy. That's all that matters. I thought about this as I waited for the rest of the crew on Ricky's porch. My legs swung back and forth in harmony. Left. Right. Left. Right. They obviously were not showing up today so I slumped off the porch and started walking. My left, right pattern continued. I walked down the barren street looking at the closed shutters on all the houses. Crossing the street from the District Square to the Seam was almost depressing. Watching the houses fade from well-kept to barely built depressed me. Even though my house was included in those that weren't well kept it was in between barely built and well kept. It honestly was pretty good for the Seam, though I'm not sure why. My sister jumps from job to job and I dance, only occasionally earning money. Even though I am the man of the house, I don't appoint myself to the head of the house. It's just me, Eliza, and her daughter Rye anyways.

I started towards the front door when I heard someone say something. It was faint to me, but it sounded like they were yelling. Making my way towards the sound I was cautious. I had run in on a fight before and that earned me a scar on my upper arm. On a front porch of one of the barely built houses in the Seam was a boy. He seemed to be a significant number of years younger than me, but his pain was mine too. In the house I heard screaming and pounding, yet the boy was completely calm. Is everything alright there bud? I asked cautiously. I walked closer to him, revealing myself from the corner I was hiding behind. I don't think someone of his size and age were going to scar me.

I almost jump out of my skin. A much older boy walks around the corner and approaches. "Is everything alright there bud?" he asks. He looks like he could squash me like a bug. My eyes grow wide with fear as I see the scar on his arm. He was probubly sent here to kill me. My dad must have hired him or something.

The only thing that throws me off is his walk. It'e like a strange dance or he has a problem. I does nothing to ease my fear though.

"Wh...who are y...you?" I stammer fearfully. "Please don't kill me?" I draw my knees to my chin and try to appear smaller. My mousy nose begins to quiver like it always does when I'm scared.

I felt huge. The boy on the porch was so small and frail looking. I wondered if he had eaten in the past few days. I fingered the apple in my pocket.

[/size] "Wh...who are y...you?" His words hit me like a pile of bricks, even though are barely audible. I must seem like a giant who wants to scare him. Nothing about my appearance in my mind makes me look intimidating, but this kid is terrified by me. "Please don't kill me?" I am a little offended by this. I mean, to heck with intimating, I look like a killer? I must to him, because he makes himself into a little ball rocking back and forth. I quietly approach him, trying to not sound like I was gonna kill him. Another scream came from inside the house. I figured I shouldn't stay around much longer, and something told me that the kid shouldn't be here either. I grabbed his hand, unwrapping it from his knee and led him off the porch and into an alley in between his house, I figured, and his neighbors house. I made sure there were no windows, although the way that the pounding was going on inside, I was sure that whoever was in there could break through a wall just as easy.

Okay, kid, what the heck is going on in there? Are you okay? I am not going to kill you. I'm just a dancer. I try to comfort him. I pulled his head up so he could see me. He was crying and seemed super scared. I just waited for his reply hoping I wouldn't scare him anymore.

My dad screams from inside the house and a conserned look passes over the boys face. He suddenly grabs my hand and pulls me off the poarch. I knew it he was going to kill me. I start to cry and hope that he won't tourture me. He takes me in the ally between my house and the one next door. I know that its empty. The family long gone. I'm still crying and my dad still rages. The boy looks around as he still grips my hand. I don't even bother trying to escape. It would only make it worse.

"Okay, kid, what the heck is going on in there? Are you okay?" What? I don't think I heard him right. Did he just ask if I was ok. His next statment shocked me even more.

"I'm not going to kill you. I'm just a dancer." This stuns me silent. I just stare open mouthed at the older boy before me. He looks at me softly and kindly, something I'm not used too. Before I know it I suddenly hug him and start to cry again. "Thanks for not killing me." is all I can think up. I don't know what else to say.

Now we're hugging. And he's thanking me for not killing him. Now I am really concerned about what this kid goes through. The pounding on the walls grew louder. I unlocked his arms from me gently and grabbed his shoulders, looking him right in the eye. Now back to my question earlier, what is going on? I asked him. My curiosity has grown since I saw him sitting on the porch. It feels right for me to be generally concerned.

The boy gently pushes me away and looks me in the face with a serious look. "Now back to my question earlier, what is going on?" I wipe my nose and the remaining tears from my face. I can't beleive that someone else is concerened for me, besides my mother that is. Most people don't come around my house. No one seems to concerened with the boy who has a violent father and a weak mother. He has lived with ridicule and pain all his life and no one has cared. I look into the older boys eyes.

And like a some unreal angel he shows up and seems to care. There's still a nagging thought at the back of my mind. Could I be simply falling for a trap. I shake my head. No this was genuine concern in his eyes...I think. I decide to hang on to the bit of care and answer.

"I have to wait for my dad to stop or else he'll beat me. This happens all the time. Luckily my mom's not home or he would beat her too. Why do you care?" I ask curiously not rudely. "Doesn't this happen all the time to other people. No one seems to care..." I hang my head. "I wish me and my mom could leave, but she says that there is nowhere else."

OOC: It's ok. My classes usually don't end untill 3 and I have other stuffs sometimes. So I should be on later in the day.

The boy explains that he has to wait until his Dad stops, so that he doesn't get beaten. This makes my heart drop, I had heard of beatings in District 12, but I had never actually talked to someone about it. I swallowed a lump in my throat. The boy asked why I cared. Why did I care? Was it because I was a genuinely nice guy? Or was it because he was young? I didn't know, and quite frankly, I just knew I cared. Otherwise I wouldn't have come over here anyway.

I really wasn't sure what I had planned to do with this kid, but I had a feeling it would be better to get him away from here. "Well most of the time I get a beating because I'm usually in the house when he gets drunk. Today was just one of the lucky days." I stare down at my shoes. My prized possesions. I found them just lying around near the fence one day and took them beacuse no one was around. My fear has evaporated mostly. I feel safe here with this guy.

"I wish I didn't have to live here. If I could just take my mom somewhere else I would but I'm only 12. She can work but I don't know how well she would do with her being like she is and I can't work because I'm to young. But my mom has started acting funny. She used to be so fun and try her best to make me smile when my dad wasn't around or he was out cold, but now she comes home so tiered and she looks sick." I smile up at the boy, something I haven't done in a long time. Then I say something that only a 12 year old would say. "I know you could be my big brother. You could help my mom and teach me how to dance like you!"

OOC: I understand. It's awesome. I'm obseessing over this thread right now, so serious. I like read the whole thing everytime I'm about to re-post. Sorry about the weirdness of this post, but Cinder babbles and he's 12 so it fits. lol

I listened to every word of the boy's babble, it ending with him asking me to help him and his mom, and to teach him how to dance. The eagerness in his eyes made it hard for me to say no. I thought about the possibility. It wouldn't be all that hard, since we usually just dance off of instinct rather than routine. And, he looks like a dancer. Plus, this might be good publicity for the crew. I pushed that away, the thought of our publicity was greedy. I shook my head, laughing a little. Okay, that might work. "Okay, that might work. We should get out of here though. And your Mom, would she care?" the boy says. He was serious! I didn't think he would do it considering where we live and all, but it makes me happy none the less.

A big brother...Someone too take me away from my misery and protect me, but back to my mother. I pull out a scrap of paper I usually keep in my pocket and a small piece of charcoal I found and write my mom a note. I run around to the door and place it infront of the door under a rock. I return to the older guy.

"Ok all set. My name's Cinder by the way." I say smileing.

The boy digs in his pocket and pulls out a slip of paper. I looked around, hoping no one would think I was doing any harm to him and call the Peacekeepers. We were already on their bad side for dancing. Sometimes I think their job is to drain all joy from the District, rather than protect it. We don''t get yelled at or anything, but it isn't smiled upon to have fun in their Peacekeeper minds. He writes a note and runs to the front porch. He slips the note under a rock and places at the front door. I smile as he runs over to me, confirming everything is set. Cinder he said was his name. It was unique, but I didn't know many people with the name Liam either.[/size] I'm Liam.[/b] I tell him. He looks so young and full of life. I had always wanted a little brother to tell you the truth. I was stuck with an older sister, and she always bossed me around, so I wanted someone for me to boss around. Though, after Momma had me she said she was done with babies. Though sometimes I did beg her. I put my arm around his shoulders and lead him towards Ricky's.

It was a little walk away which gave me time to think, time I wish I didn't have. I wondered what Raymond would think of this... He already thought the crew was too big, but this small edition shouldn't bother him right? I'll have to teach Cinder how to dance, which could be easy, or could be hard. I would have no problem explaining to the girls, they would love him. Raymond on the other hand, maybe not so much. We only danced for fun, but we still worked, and teaching Cinder how to dance would take time away from that. It's not that Raymond was grumpy or anything, but he liked schedules. Ricky would welcome Cinder with open arms as he did me and Ray years ago. I guessed I didn't have too much to worry about, but I wasn't losing Ray over this, but I doubt it would lead to that.

"I'm Liam." he responds. I smile. My big brother Liam. He puts him arm around my shoulders and leads me away from my house. He seemed deep in thought so I don't interupt him with my own. I wonder if danceing will be hard. I've never seen anyone dance before. I'm usually to afraid to venture out. But I'm quick and nimble so that might help me I don't know.

We don't go to far, just to another house with a porch. It looks nice enough. To me it looks perfect. A sanctuary away from my father. I wonder who lived here. Was it Liam or one of his freinds. Freinds...

It hits me. There will be other people here too. Will they like me? Will they hate me? Surely Liam won't let them beat me up like the bullies at school? I begin to shake a little again and my mousy nose starts to quiver again.

"So, can you dance?" Liam asks.
"Ummm...no acctually. I never seen anyone dace before." I try to keep the shakeing down to a minimum as I respond. "I was hoping you would teach me."

Well, we'll have to change that pretty quick won't we lil bro. I replied when he told me he'd never see anyone dance. I danced for girls sometimes, but they never watched me as close as Cinder would, I'm sure. He was a peppy little boy full of life, he'll learn pretty fast too, considering his situation at home. I was the only one in the group that didn't live in the same house. Everyone else hung out in a house everyone paid for, yet somehow, they saw me as the leader. We were coming up on our meeting place for today, which was the same as always. Cinder seemed nervous but excited. I wrapped my arm around his shoulder and gave him a few squeezes. Calm down. You'll be fine. I told him, but he probably felt like he was going in The Games.

Raymond and Rachelle came out of Ricky's as we got close enough for them to see us. Rachelle ran up to us and asked Cinder his name, but Ray walked straight up to me. Can I talk to you Liam? He said, looking rather annoyed. I nodded and we walked over to the porch, leaving Rachelle with a now blushing Cinder. What's the problem? I mean Ray, think here a minute. He's young and look at him! He's adorable! Ray seemed less convinced. Okay, first, that's weird. He's a guy, chill with the whole adorable thing k? And second, he's fine, if he can dance. Well, he's never seen anyone dance, but he won't slow us down, we don't even dance for money. I'll show him how anyways, don't worry about skipping work or anything. Ray smiled at Rachelle, who was still kind of playing with Cinder. A few months ago Rachelle and Ray started dating so I couldn't help but throw in a comment about her. You would disappoint Rachelle anyway. I said, making kissing faces at him. He shoved me out of the way and walked over to Rachelle and Cinder. He put his arm around Rachelle. Sorry little dude, she's taken. He said, smiling down on Rachelle. Okay. Well anyways. Cinder, this is Rachelle and Raymond. Raymond, this is Cinder. I walked over to Cinder and whispered in his ear. He's just kidding with you, he's on board with this. I told him, he looked worried. I smiled and slapped his back, maybe a little too hard.

Liam puts him arm around my shoulders again and gives me some brotherly squeezes. "Calm down. You'll be fine." I nod. All fear had left now to be replaced by excitement. If Liam said I would be fine then I know I would be fine.

When we got close enough to this house and two people come out. One is a serious looking guy who looked a little mad. The other was a girl who smiled when she saw me. The two split ways the guy goes and talks to Liam while the girl approaches me.

"Hi little guy. Whats your name." she asks. I blush.
"My names Cinder. Big Brother Liam brought me here so he could teach me to dance." I say.
"Did he now? Well you're a little sweetheart." she says. She then tossles my hair and smiles. Suddenly the serious guy returns and puts his arm around the girl. "Sorry little dude, she's taken." he says. What does that mean? Where's he taking her. I thought they just got here.

Liam walks over and introduces the pair. The serious guy's name is Raymond and the girl's is Rachelle. He then tells them my name. "He's just kidding with you, he's on board with this." he says in my ear. Then he smacks me on my back and I fall face first on the ground at Rachelle feet. "Oww." I moan.
