A totally platonic love letter to best Co-GM a girl could have --[/size]
(That’s you, cub)
I thought I’d start this letter off traditionally, with pleasantries. So, how’s the Canadian winter treating you? Have any festivities planned, post moose feast? I imagine you in this winter wonderland where the critters (the ones you don’t eat, like, beaver?Wait, I didn’t mean it like that…) greet you each morning. I’m bet I’m totally right.
Which brings me to my first note of love: thank you for thinking it’s hilarious that I’m an asshole. No matter what sort of shenanigans I tried to pull, or how up in your business I was (without obviously knowing anything about your business), you were always there with your quick wit, and forgiving spirit.
Thank you for being my friend, from the first day we started working together on the Games, even though we were both like – hokay, I guess that other THG staffer is sort of interesting or something. You immediately dove in, setting up our top secret play place, suggesting zany mutts and random events. You even let me steer us back to center a few times – but not always.
And that’s what made these Games great.
They were so you.
And so me.
And so us.
I will never forget the Cerberuses (oh yes we did!), or Ailis kissing Demeter, or Peri sending the Argos back to the stars, or Kiera and Wednesdae’s brief, brilliant flame. I will never forget the beauty of the Morpheus trap, or how our traps stacked up on each in unexpected ways. I love that we took turns posting the Anthems, the REs, updating the rules. You were always there for me, despite my crazy traveling, and more importantly, you always wanted to be a part of these Games.
Not just for the thrill of seeing your name associated with the Anthem, but because I know you really cared about making them great, about allowing the tributes to have the best experience possible. At some point along the way we realized that we couldn’t control everything about these Games. Gamemakers never can. But you were so okay with that because that meant everyone got a little share in how these Games turned out.
These Games were funny, creative, exhausting, surprising, and I hope, memorable.
Thank you for letting me share this experience with you. I loved being a Gamemaker, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat with you at my side. But for now: we did it!!! Here’s to dinosaur puppets, boxing glaives, and nudity traps.
With love and the elation of victory,
Kay “Cougar” torade, ½ of Team Kame
p.s. and here's another toast to the best perk of all: we now co-own Sam’s soul, amirite? But really, congratulations to Sam as well. Peridot Myler will always be Team Kame's Victor <3
