Name: Goss Harlow
Age: 18
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 2
Appearance:
Gossamer is very much a man. He has a square jaw, rounding out into a strong chin. His nose is an elegant slope in the middle of his face, only slightly marred by his too-big nostrils. He has high cheek bones, and full lips. He has a mop of bleached blond hair, dry and cracked from the bleach. His eyes are a sharp blue color, beautiful, but unsettling to look at.
He has flawless pale skin that can't hold even the slightest tan, and burns easily in the sun. His body has little to no fat, having been whipped into submission by years of Career training. His arms are much more muscular then the rest of his body, since Gossamer focuses most of his attention upper body strength. He has large hands, with the nails and cuticles torn to shreds because of Goss's refusal to stop biting them. Gossamer is on the small side, only about five-nine with a weight of 140 pounds. He has narrow shoulders for a guy, and slender hips. His collar bones protrude greatly, one noticeably warped because of an incident involving a girl he was hitting on.
Personality:
Before being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia at the age of sixteen, Gossamer was just like any rambunctious teen. He ran around at all hours of the night, drank, got high, had unprotected sex, and other such tomfoolery. He had a large group of acquaintances, won through his lively manner and charisma. People he would party and get drunk or high with, but no one he really felt connected to. He didn’t really feel the need to form any real bonds, when he could have so many fake ones with little to no effort on his part. Goss wasn't really interested in getting personal, he just wanted to have some fun.
Goss did not worry about loosing his party buddies. He didn’t think anything would ever happen that would drive them away. He was a nice, funny guy, with enough brightness and energy to power the entire district; what was there not to love? Well, we can add cocky to that list of adjectives, maybe even optimistic, or simply foolish. He should have found some real friends while he had the chance, because once word got out that ol' Gosser had developed some sort of crazy mental disorder, they avoided him like the plague.
Alone and woebegone, Gossamer sat in his dark room and listened to the voices in his head, with no friends to turn to. Goss turned in on himself, and his sunny personality was clouded. With no one and nothing left, Goss became depressed. His bright smile was turned down into a gloomy frown. He stopped using drugs and alcohol recreationally, and started using them as an escape, or maybe even a cure. Sadly, the drugs made the hallucinations and delusions worse.
His mother and father finally noticed that their son wasn’t doing so hot, besides the y’know, schizophrenia, so they checked him into a mental hospital where he went to therapy and had to take mind numbing drugs, while quitting the illegal drugs cold turkey. A year later, Gossamer left the mental hospital with a better handle on his disorder, and a bit of himself back. His sunny spirit wasn’t – isn’t – really up to par on how he was a year ago, but it probably never will be.
The schizophrenia makes him paranoid - it is after all called paranoid schizophrenia. The voices he hears are constantly making him question the motives of people, so he is often closed off, and tends to lash out at anyone that gets close enough, screaming about how they want him dead. Along with this paranoia that people are out to get him, he also has this belief that the Capital is watching every move he makes and is controlling his life. These paranoid delusions also come with delusions of grandeur. At times he really believes that he is invincible, and at others he fancies he can fly. He adapts a very condescending, self-important attitude when he has these thoughts.
Underneath is all, the voices of many people are constantly whispering doubts and criticisms in his head. He can't do a single thing without hearing what a terrible person he is, or how stupid he is, or how he can't do anything right. And it isn't only voices he hears, he also has hallucinations that he sees. Whether it be a glass of water that becomes a glass of boiling green ooze that spews purple smoke, or a person that grows into a forked-tongue, bat-winged, red-skinned demon. These hallucinations makes him terrified, and the trained Career may turn violent.

History:
Gossamer's parents were once wealthy merchants, but in recent years their wealth has been ebbing away. Owning a supply store for miners is just not providing enough income. They had to pay for their first son to train as a Career, but it was all for naught because he just recently had his 19th birthday. So they had to shift their attention to training their second son, Gossamer, on top of paying for his medical bills, and medicine. There isn't enough money to go around to be able to afford to make their third and final son a Career, let alone money to keep paying for Gossamer's medication.
All would have been fine and dandy if Gossamer hadn't been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia when he was just 16, having developed from a combination of genetics and environmental problems. But he was, and his parents had to pay for it, literally. After getting out of the mental hospital, he was prescribed antipsychotic drugs, but because of his family's struggles, as well as some unsavory side-effects, Gossamer has stopped taking his medicine, and has decided to just grit his teeth and bare it. His parent's tried everything to get him to continue to take his medicine, but once faced with the pile of bills, they couldn't dispute it.
Gossamer returned to his Career training with a vengeance, having missed a full year because of his stay at the mental hospital. He goes to the training center as ofter as he can, having developed this insane idea that if was reaped, and won, the Capital would have no choice but to cure his disorder. He doesn't have anything better to do in any case, his partying days are long over, and his buddies still get nervous around him.
Unfortunately for Goss, not only has his buddied abandoned him, so had his two brothers. His older brother is jealous the Gossamer still has two years to become a Tribute, and hates the fact that their parents now focus all their attention on Goss. His younger brother also hates that it is because Gossamer got sick that their parents can't pay for him to be a Career. Both boys icily ignore hi at the dinner table, while his parents struggle to keep up some pretense of family.
