Vanessa Davis (District 4)

Vanessa is small and thin like most kids on the seam, standing at 5’4” with long raven black hair which is a stark contrast against her pale complexion and bright blue eyes. She may be skinny but her small frame hides the taught wiry muscles she has gained from hunting and other such work. Like most things about Vanessa her eyes have a very intense, serious look about them, and often seem a little bit distracted, lost in thought.

Most of the time Vanessa isn’t much to look at, she has dirty hands, calloused from hard laborious work. Her hair is constantly in a state of disarray, and her clothes are well worn with thread barren seams, covered with a smattering of oil stains and dirt and patches here and there. When dressed up for the reaping however Vanessa is strikingly beautiful in a different sort of way with her dramatic features.

Vanessa is a precocious, ambitious little creature. First and foremost she is serious and can come across as rather intense upon first meeting her. A strong-willed, tough girl she is made of tougher stuff than she appears to be. She may not be as strong when fighting but she has an endurance and a fire inside her that makes her persistent and unwilling to quite. She is a survivor and has a ruthless streak that comes more from desperation and the need to keep her family safe and alive than anything else.

Her fatal flaw is her pride. Although she may appear humble and down-to-earth which she is very much so Vanessa does have a tendency to be overconfident in her experience and abilities. She is proud of where she came from and who she is and will hold fast to what she believes in as if her life depended on it. She dislikes complains and those with inflated egos, though she has had one herself a time or two. She can also be a bit intense and dramatic.

Her greatest strength, other than her integrity and her internal drive is her compassion. Mind you it’s buried down deep under layers of mistrust and a prickly attitude, but it’s there. She tends to help others less fortunate than herself, and feels sympathy or pity for others, sympathy for those who are like her and so long as they’re nice she pities the children living in the wealthier districts. No one is above suspicion according to her, and at the same time she understands that everyone is in this mess whether they want to be or not.

Vanessa takes after her mother in looks and attitude. Her mother, Cora, came from District 12 amongst the coal miners. Her father John Davis was born and raised in District 4 on the lower end of the spectrum. He, like his father before him is a fisherman, and has taught his daughter how to fish as well.

She had two brothers, and one sister. Madge, her older sister died of an illness, her older brother died in one of the Hunger Games, but her little brother Bryn is still alive and she is very protective over him.

Vanessa is always very nervous when the reaping comes around. She dreads being chosen, but knows deep down that if her brother was chosen she would volunteer herself in his place. She couldn’t stand by and watch him die too.
