Karner Blue {District 3}

Karner blue is a young boy from district twelve looking a little younger then what his age is, standing at 4’9” and weighing only 90 pounds. He has chocolate brown eyes that’ll melt your heart if you look at it too deeply. His hair is a dark blonde color usually in a uniform style without any hair strands out of place. He has clean white skin that is soft to the touch, and almost no calluses or scratches on his body. The flaw to his body is that there are burn marks across his chest and his back due to being electrocuted on occasion in the factory he works.

Karner can cover up those huge scars on his body with the cloths he wears. His clothing style is simple; a white T-shirt and a pair of beige shorts. That’s almost all he ever wears with the exception of special occasions and reapings.

Karner is the most happy-go-lucky person you could ever meet, not having a care in the world. Just one look at his smiling face could give life to a dying person, despite the fact that he had a rather troublesome past of losing all his siblings to the hunger games. He really loved all of them and he was only loyal to them, until they all died in the Hunger games. Now, since he had no one close to him like that anymore, he tried to consider everyone as a good person, being loyal to them even though they may be fickle. Most people would expect him to be used and bullied quite easily, but he’s just so nice to everyone that they usually do their best to be nice to him.

Even though Karner can tell if someone’s happy, he’s oblivious to practically every other emotion, to himself and to other people. It’s as if he’s trying to deny that sadness or anger exists since he’s so optimistic. The only way a person can show him an emotion is only by showing something other than a facial expression or changes in voice. To name a few examples of when he can identify someone’s emotions is through; tears, laughs, punches and screams to name a few. If someone shouts at him in anger, he won’t recognize the emotion until there is visual sign of anger besides the facial expression.

Karner’s favourite hobby is collecting bugs, specifically butterflies and moths. Even his house is surrounded by plants that butterfly and moth larvae eat. Being from district 3, he also has obtained quite the knowledge for machinery and for technology. With technology, he specifically likes to play with lights and lighting, as if it were a form of art.

Karner Blue is the last born of four children having his siblings as 12-year-old Iris, a 16-year-old boy named Coalfur, and lastly his 14-year-old sister named Lila. Each member of their family worked in a manufacturing plant that produces any technology which main purpose involves making light. Sometimes, his parents would bring back some of the different colour lights from their work place so that he could play with them. This is why he has developed a liking to light and the bright colors produced by them.

The year he was born, was the year his youngest sister got selected for the reaping. They all watched as Iris made her way into the final five, only to be stabbed in the back by her ally. Karner was too young to remember, but his family all mourned for the loss of their precious young girl.

Two years later, his brother, Coalfur got reaped into the Hunger Games, being the second child the family lost to the capitol. Even though he was eighteen being the oldest of all the tributes that year, he died on the first day in the blood bath. Again, the family mourned for the loss of yet another child. Sadly, being only three years old, he didn’t understand the whole concept of the Games or what it meant. He was just a happy and oblivious child.

Another two years had passed and Karner learned more about the cruel side of the world, about the Hunger Games and about what happened to his older siblings. Now he was five years old and his only sister eighteen. It happens that then that Lila’s boyfriend was reaped and died in the games as well, making Lila so depressed that she would snap at anyone. She snapped at Karner who couldn’t understand the sorrow she was feeling and in feeling hurt from her emotional outburst, he ran away from his house for a while.

This is where he found a small field of butterflies. He had never seen anything so beautiful and free before with their colors and patterns. It was as if they where his new friends. Right then and there, his sad feeling went away and the butterflies filled up his heart again. He researched butterflies and moths too see the several different types he could encounter, and quickly he became interested in studying these creatures. He even asked his mom to help gather the seeds from the flowers they lay their eggs on. Now, his house usually has a flutter of butterflies around it when it’s their season.

Another important event in his life was when he was twelve years old. He began to work in the factory his parents work in, and where his siblings used to. On the first day of his job he got electrocuted by one of the machines that he worked with, earning a huge cross-like scar on his back and chest. It was a miracle he survived that kind of shock at his age, but he recovered by from the disaster quickly.

Karner’s life right now is quite simple. He lives in the poorer side of district three with his mom and dad, working in a factory that produces technology involving light. Aside from his horrible past, he now lives happily with what’s left of his family.
