Personality:
Aveta is tall and thin, weighing in at around 130 pounds, with blond hair that falls in waves around her shoulders, framing her angular face. Her nose is long and straight and her mouth is a little too wide for her pointed jaw.
She has a red birthmark on her forehead that shows up when she's sick, or when it's about to storm. It sticks out against her golden tanned skin like a beacon in the night. She also has a large, gnarled white scar on her left calf that she got while gathering fish with her mother by the shore. It's long and raised so she always wears long pants, no matter how hot it gets outside.
The one thing that Aveta has always admired and loved about her appearance is her hands. Though they have seen a lot of work, and have rough callouses on the palms and fingers, she loves the way they are perfectly shaped. Her long straight fingers, ending with perfect, long nails. On the back of her right hand there is a freckle that has been there as long as she can remember, and she's always been particularly fond of it, even going so far as to name it when she was younger.
History:
Aveta always seems to bring out the best in the people she meets. People tend to naturally flock to her, so she's always surrounded by children and adults alike. Her mother always tells her that even as a young child, she managed to make people happy.
However, Aveta also tends to have a temper. Her fuse is long, but once you reach the end of it, she will blow up in your face; and though most of the time she is sweet and thoughtful, if you make her mad enough, she will say things that cut to the bone. She then calms down and feels horrible about getting so upset, and she will apologize for days on end for it.
Aveta also has a major problem that is almost unheard of in her district. She has is deathly afraid of water. Where as most of her friends will go to the beach to help their parents gather clams and muscles, she opts to stay at home and do some kind of work there, because just going near the shore will send her into a near panic attack. Even heavy rain sends her into her room in tears sometimes.

Aveta Maze is the youngest of her parent's four children. She has two older brothers, and an older sister. Her brothers are both married, one of them with a small child of his own, and her sister continues to live with Aveta and her parents because she is only 17. Aveta also has a grandfather that doesn't live very far from her. He is elderly, and so isn't able to do a lot for himself, so Aveta spends most of her time when she's not in school, at his house helping him.
When Aveta was 6 she and her mother and sister were down at the beach, wading in the shallow water collecting seaweed and drift wood while her father and brothers were fishing. Aveta went a little too far out into the sea and the undertow caught a hold of her. Before her mother or sister could react it had pulled Aveta under. The salty water filled her mouth and her lungs, as it tossed her violently against the ground and the rocks that were hidden in the sand. Miraculously, Aveta's head was spared, but one of the jagged rocks cut her right calf, leaving a deep cut across the back of her leg. When her mother finally was able to grab a hold of her daughter, they thought her dead for a moment. Finally Aveta coughed up the water and began screaming in pain from her the gash in her leg. Her family rushed her back to their house where one of the women down the street came and stitched up her leg. For months after that, Aveta woke from nightmares of drowning. Since that day, even the sound of the waves causes her to shake all over with fear.
It took six months for Aveta to gain the strength back in her leg to be able to walk, and another six before she was walking even close to normally. The children at school made fun of her because of her leg, but somehow, Aveta managed to keep her bright outlook on life and bring joy to all who were near her.
